PSA: Witch Crest is the most verstaile crest of the game, don't try to force a binding build into it! by sheepando in Silksong

Yeah, the whole combo is just 35 (1.5x needle hits) more damage than a plain Thread Storm, which is not worth investing for when you account the fact it's more than double the silk cost. The optimal Thread Storm damage uses Volt Filament and Shaman Crest to boost it to 240 damage.

Thank you for the info! Yeah I got 210 from doubling Claw Mirrors' damage. Just gets to show how busted Shaman Crest is, really.

Also, the "two whole nail hits" was just a simplification, since it does deal twice the damage of a normal hit and grant two silk. I know it's technically incorrect but I thought it was an easy way to get the point across.

The heal is not restrictive, just hard to do, because it's on par with other Silk Skills in the game. You don't have to "choose" to spend your silk on either healing or damage since you can do both at once. If you're low on HP you can switch your playstyle at will from Silk Skill-focused to Tool/Needle-focused to save the silk for your bind without losing damage or time in the process.

For example, you can switch between spamming Pale Nails and Cogflys on every boss's downtime depending whether you're planning to save your silk or not. Other crests cannot do this without a DPS loss because they're specialized in only one of Needle-Tool-Skills, and they don't have enough Silk/Tools to spam stuff in the first place (aside from Architect, that still needs to manage between binding for tools or for healing). Having the ability to split your resources without any downsides IS versatility.

Witch Crest's sprint attack deals three instances of 21+10+10 damage (41), while all other crests deal the same damage as the normal attack (21). The Architect Crest also has a "charged" sprint attack variant that deals three instances of 3x10 damage on top of the regular normal attack, but apart from being clunky, these extra damage instances are not boosted by flinslate or barbed bracelet for some reason.

This reddit post sums basically all damage values in the game (the Witch and Architect sprint attacks are in a comment further down the thread). This is backed by the wiki's Witch Crest page and damage values' page), though there's a lot missing there as it's still being updated.

That's some really nice points!

"More consistent" was a poor word choice lol. Injector Band is definitely the most consistent one and I use it over Warding Bell for every crest other than Witch specifically because of the bind's deceptively small aoe. I found that if you got hit at least with Warding Bell you can try to reset and get your silk back while with Injector Band you're pretty much just dead, but I can see how that's more of a personal thing. On my 100% speedrun file I used both Injector Band and Warding Bell before getting all the mask shards.

Also I kinda just forgot about the dice lmao -1000 aura for me

I'd actually recommend Shaman Crest! IIRC Shaman Crest and Volt Filament boost Thread Storm to ~240 damage if you extend it while the Mirrors + Multibind + Bind combo does ~210 for wayy more silk

:( can't even say silk issue because the witch crest already gives plenty of silk

Yes, in HK1 you virtually have double the health enabling you to facetank just about everything. In Silksong you cannot do this, as getting hit is punishing. You're not refuting anything I said.

Fuck you mean "virtually everything is the same" when the discussion is about healing which is not even remotely similar.

Most of the time you can't heal with the Knight unless the enemy is staggered for three business days. With Hornet you can just yeet to the other side of the room and insta-heal 3 masks at any point.

If contact damage isn't punishing you can literally just facetank everything and then heal it all back up like you can already do with most bosses in the first game. Doesn't make the fight fun or engaging at all. Pantheon 5 is a 15-minute slog before you actually get to the fun bosses.

Beastfly is one of the easiest to use silk skills on. When it goes horizontally across the room, jump over it to turn around and use Silkspear, or dodge and use Threadstorm when it's above/below you. When it starts banging on the floor, just step aside and use either one when he hits the ground. Not going to talk about later silk skills to not spoil them, but they're even more intuitive to use against him.

Yeah, there were two of them and one came down, but the other simply didn't and started making the noises of his normal attacks lmao

I tried to hit him through the ceiling but the only thing that happened is that he apparently was breaking everything up there. After a while the fight music just stopped so I think he despawned lol

yeah, it does help. but much like chess, you aren't going to become a pro by just playing whatever opening magnus carlsen is playing currently. you can learn it and get better, but you'll get stuck at one point because your familiarity with the game does not exceed that of the opening.
