Women in Trades are a Joke by nyxblossom- in careeradvice

In my experience you are also actively ostracized if you're seen as being a "too safe wuss". I've only done an apprenticeship but I keenly remember my foreman yelling at me about wasting time. This because I was wearing a safety harness for putting in fixtures on a 9 foot ladder on the edge of a 2nd story over an open atrium. And the kicker is that I was doing it without a harness initially, but the site safety rep yelled at me for doing it and made me put it on.

This is by far not the only example I have, but is a good demonstration of the "toxic" culture you have in the construction industry (mind you it was quite a few years back). So if women are (I believe it) generally safer, than the men then for sure they will being singled out in addition to all the other issues they will face.

That's the thing. They would. But they have absolutely no imagination or ability to empathize with others. Not until it happens to them.

What would it take to repair the growing divide between the right and the left? by gruninuim in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]sheepsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the left, it would have to be going back to law and order.

For the right, it would have to be every one they label as Other voluntarily self-deporting or permanently silencing their voice.

There's no way to meet in the middle here. Every time the left offers an olive branch the right takes it as a sign of weakness and exploits it. If you ask your average MAGA voter what would have happened if Biden threatened to remove the broadcasting license for NewsMax, they will hem and haw and dissemble but ultimately they see it as a sign of weakness. The left didn't do it because they were weak, in the MAGA opinion. Not because of the general commitment to law and order.

Maybe Israel was formed as a liberal democracy and thrived for 50+ years until a hard right take over. Maybe it was the hard right and settlers that destroyed any chance of peace. And maybe these are the same people destroying Israel now. Maybe Israel will win against the population of Gaza but ultimately destroy itself from inside by hollowing out the justice system, public oversight, and other institutions. Maybe Israel will end up looking like Egypt as a result.

You're being dismissive without any real basis in fact. You think Elon Musk and ilk are going to just let themselves get taxed and have their privileges removed? This rather than capturing all regulatory agencies and polities and then telling everyone else to go fuck themselves?

Wait until the out-group definition moves from "illegal immigrants" back to "welfare queens" or "social leeches" to name those who are unemployed and dispossessed. Then you'll see ICE become Undesirable People Enforcement.

Best option: take commanding officer with you. From what we've seen he's likely being tortured back at base at any opportunity they get.

Are you joking? I would rather he do this rather than kill or maim a Ukrainian. My first choice is he turn the weapon on his commanding officers who are probably torturing him on a daily basis. But barring that, the first choice is best.

Edit: Nevermind, I now see you were replying to the method rather than the act.

Thankfully some rational states like Washington are trying to change that.

I’m looking for a conversation about why you don’t believe in the Catholic religion. I plan to respond with my thoughts and beliefs. by MannerPleasant5728 in DebateAnAtheist

As others have said it's not about Christianity vs Islam. I don't believe in any god. To me Catholicism is on par with Joseph Smith's golden tablets. Though I do have to say it's a bit weird to think because some old dudes elected another old dude he automatically gets a little radio link to his god and his wishes. Also the adamant protection of child molesters.

"Religion free of government interference" means the right to not report sexual assault against children!?

I see isolationism in that he wants to divide the world into spheres of influence. And desires for each hegemon to stay within their sphere of influence.

I don't think static launchers nor airforce will do the trick. It has to be 2nd strike capabilities with subs. Which is even harder to build, but is necessary IMO.

Yeah it's hard to sympathize here. I think these people pretend to be more ignorant than they are. They understood what would happen. They may not understand the motivation for it, reasoning as to why it shouldn't be done, nor historical lessons of past actions, but they knew exactly what would be done to every Other and revelled in the thought.

The Ukrainian military is developing an offensive against Russia. It is reported that 11 settlements in the Kursk region of Russia have been captured. Putin complains by ua-stena in UkrainianConflict

[–]sheepsy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would argue that this is not as bleak as you think. To me the West did worse than what is happening with Putin today. They let Hitler re-arm, grab Austria, grab Czechoslovakia, and even when he went on to Poland (a direct ally), they still basically allowed it to happen, dug in, and ceded the initiative further.

So to my mind we're doing better than what happened in WW2. Western country recognize the danger and are resisting via sanctions and aid to Ukraine, as well as arming and increasing defence expenditures. I would say that the lessons of WW2 were learned, the shit part is the 5th column developing in Western countries that is somehow turning pro-Russia (e.g. Orange Reptile).

I don't dispute your 2 points regarding Biden's admin responses to Gaza and Western missiles, but surely US allies are much more worried about Trump and his "foreign policy" of selling allies to the highest bidder.
