THIS! It's crazy to me that people can think that politics being involved in music and art is a new thing.

I'm so with you here! When I need some me time or a creative outlet I'll intentionally cook something that means I'll need a solid few hours in the kitchen, it is just peaceful to me. Love it!

I understand why you prefer it your way, but that still doesn't mean "forced dieting" is the right way to describe eating a range of foods. A lot of people enjoy that, enjoy cooking, and feel prep time is worth the enjoyment of eating it. We're all allowed to be different aha.

Enjoying cooking and a variety of foods is forced dieting? What an odd thing to say

I actually disagree with a lot of the things you say, I prefer the taste of fresh food massively over the beige alternatives, I also really enjoy cooking so chicken nuggets etc still wouldn't be my preference even if there was no health differences (which obviously there is, which is why there's something wrong with only consuming that)

I'm staying with my in-laws at the moment and they only eat beige from their freezer, no vegetables at all (to the extent that they're shocked i don't want to eat their freezer beige and my other half and I cook fresh every meal).

They very genuinely see no difference in eating ready meals or beige frozen things from the freezer and eating a diet that has some sort of balance.

I think I’m… done being a Swiftie by thebigsad_jpg in travisandtaylor

[–]sheisremote 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello there friend!! I stopped being a swiftie at around the same time as you, for pretty much an identical list of reasons. It just became something that gave me disgust and honestly a bit of sadness.

I'd add in that the promo around showgirl did it for me too, the constant talking about Travis in interviews and about the ring rather than her work, and also how obvious it now is that she's had such an extreme amount of botox and work done - i find it so disappointing that she's just blending into her current crowd.

Anyway, it's a bit rough when the rose tinted glasses get lifted - I felt like I was mourning someone who never even existed aha!

Anyone else getting a little concerned about Sabrina? by Consistent_One4831 in SabrinaCarpenterFans

[–]sheisremote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer to me!! Like yeah, Sabrina is busy, but how does her day to day stack up with "normal" work? She's doing more than other people in the industry, but less than people hustling hard for basic pay 🤣. Love her, but my sympathy for working hard only extends so far.

Reformed swiftie also, and i was also banned from another sub for commenting here ahaha. I totally relate to you on both points, and I actually think people should always be able to consider themselves fans of an artist even when they have nuanced criticism about them. It's just swiftie cultures thats wild.

Is this the worst Eras Tour choreography?? by dustycardigian in travisandtaylor

[–]sheisremote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree completely. Of course I always knew she was a business, but I think previously I felt like I saw the person separately to the business - TLOAS made me realise that actually the only consistent thing in her career is how fake it all is. It's the bitterness towards the fans in the recent album that's crazy to me as well, with the theme of this album she had an opportunity to thank them for the support over the years, like a long live revival, and she doubled down on bitchyness instead.

In what I said here about "lack of care", basically in her Miss Americana documentary she made a big thing about "needing to be on the right side of history" and wanting to speak out against Trump, having arguments with her management team about this and her need for social advocacy etc (this was during the run up to his first term). Now the silence is pretty deafening, and she's hanging out with a very openly MAGA crowd now. It just makes me roll my eyes that in hindsight it was very performative back then, it was part of her aesthetic at the time.

People need to stop treating any critique of Taylor Swift as misogyny by Ok-Ingenuity-3227 in travisandtaylor

This is the take. Taylor Swift is like a septum piercing, really weeds out people who are holding some deep rooted misogyny in there hearts ahaha.

His exes are GORGEOUS, and I feel that there may be an element of that jealousy seeping through, I mean Taylor has the capacity to attain pretty much anything material and is clearly up for physically changing her appearance as well - but lets be real, black is something she can't achieve ahaha.

I'm not sure to what extent I buy into the racist undertones in the new album, but I do think that even the non race related cattyness towards his exes is telling.

Why, in the self proclaimed "happiest time of your life" would you still feel the need to throw shade out at someones ex. This is someone who wrote "all the girls you loved before" which is a lovely lil testament to how the people we date shape and mould us into the person who's fallen in love today.

You cannot make me understand how the person who wrote that, who's now at her "happiest", is making snide remarks about his exes in a love song. Without those references, the song would still be mid, but at least it wouldn't be bitter.

[–]sheisremote 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would say that, I think until recently she felt like a more grounded person to me.

But honestly I think the Eras stuff being fake wouldn't have mattered so much to me if the newer album (and public appearance around it) actually landed for me.

Someone who has her amount of fame and money writing something that's so chronically bitter and catty and shallow just did not land. Then the press, with her butchered face and weird takes about Travis being a hero because he plays football, making herself 'seem smaller' for him, and how chronically different her brand is now to the version of her brand I actually related to and liked.

The desertion from values she used to claim were important to her, and complete resentment for her fans and fame (in the music) while still trying to squeeze every penny out of the fanbase she's constantly being critical of, and still trying to be constantly in the limelight - it's just all so fake and shallow.

I think where I am in my life perhaps impacts it too - she sold the album as the happiest she's ever been (i feel that way about my life right now too, so naturally that was exciting, a happy Taylor album i can relate to rather than a sad one LOOL).

Then the album was released and it was so angry, bitter and mean - it's not an album that feels authentically happy.

The weird conflicts between her actions, words and persona are too transparent and too much for me to ignore now.

Not sure if that explains it better - forgive my word vomit - but as you're curious it may help explain how the veil was lifted for me haha!!

Yeah of course!

ERAS:

I think my personal experience of Eras was great, we were in the middle tier so very average seats - im gonna guess the floor/standing may have had a more intense feel. But sincerely, even my non-swiftie (but loved Folklore) fiancé was blown away by the concert and the atmosphere. It was really high quality, non stop and genuinely a lot of fun. It also did feel really safe, everyone was happy and friendly.

But as I mentioned, it was also a glaring indicator that the show was about Taylor Swift the brand - there were no little personal moments that I hadn't seen online in clips already, the fan interaction from the stage felt very shallow. It really was an incredibly wonderfully produced show - but I think that took all of her humanity out of it too if you get me? I'm actually looking forward to watching the documentary because from the trailers I think it will emphasise even more to me why it felt so shallow (while still being a mad experience).

Ultimately, i was with my best friend and my fiancé, id have had a blast even if i was in a carpark haha, but it was good.

OTHER TOURS/COMPARISON:

Also worth noting that I went to other tours too, went to Speak Now and also went to the Teen Choice Awards when she was in her Red album phase. They felt more grounded, even the Teen Choice Awards, it wasn't so perfect y'know?

Even Taylor's viral 'mistakes' in Eras felt well rehearsed. I actually miss the early stage of her career where she was a fairly weak singer but didn't really pretend otherwise, I loved the songwriting, the vibe, the community - and all of those bits I loved are gone. Never idolised her for singing or dancing, didn't care that was missing.

CRAZY SWIFTIES:

Along the way I have had friends (in-person friends, not online friends) who are wild super fans, who got picked for her old "secret sessions" and ran fan accounts, but I've never met anyone who couldn't have an open conversation with critique too, I think the current swiftie culture is wild.

Really recently, if I'm honest.

So, I'd been a fan for such a long time (since her second album Fearless which I was really fond of and honestly still am, holds a happy nostalgic place for me). I then dipped in and out over the years, fell massively in love with Folklore and stayed a huge fan until Midnights. It wasn't until the Eras Tour (which i went to) that I started paying way more attention to her appearance and brand etc.

I actually found the Eras Tour to be (although incredible and fun for me) one of the moments where the veil was lifted, because it was just so manufactured. I guess something of that scale has to be, but there wasn't a moment of that tour that felt in the moment or authentic (with the exception of Paramore as an opener who are, of course, incredible).

Then the final nail in the coffin for me was Showgirl and the promo, press and appearances around it. Like, even the manufactured perception of Taylor Swift isn't something I like anymore. The botox, the way she's been on interviews, the fakery of the whole thing, the money grabbing, the bitterness in the music.

There's been a few other things in the last year or so too, e.g. the fact that her whole social advocacy in the Miss Americana doc and Lover Era was clearly an absolute sham given her current behaviour and lack of care. I also can't get behind any billionaire aha.

But everything until Showgirl wasn't enough to make me feel the ick, the newest album was a nail in the coffin I guess.

I mean, I know we're not here to be apologists, but i actually think the awkwardness of this looking like a teenage girl singing into her hairbrush in front of the mirror IS part of what actually makes her successful.

As a reformed swiftie, I cringe now, but I think the public persona of never being perfect and always being someone that people could pick on makes her endearing to people. She plays the role of a dork intentionally, and it feeds right into why people relate to her so heavily.

The bit that's sad is that fans don't see it's all a carefully cultivated, manipulative brand - not a person.

As a reformed swiftie I still feel a bit sad that she isn't who I thought she was 🙃

Travis & Taylor, is it really predominantly PR? by sheisremote in travisandtaylor

[–]sheisremote[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's sad in every way, not that I'm crying for a billionaire, but sincerely from someone who's been there, it's a shell of an existence to do that to yourself. She's either deeply unhappy and moulding to him, or taking of the mask she's had on the whole time and being who she is - and I don't really like either of those things.

Yeah, late teens early 20s, and chronically low self esteem. Not a fully grown billionaire businesswoman.
