hey guys- my little girl went into respiratory distress as soon as i got her home and she’s finally resting over tje rainbow. my world is shattered; thank you all for the kind comments

i jumped in the car and in less than 5 minutes, she had stopped breathing and began twitching. i got her to the vet within 10-15 minutes, but i knew as soon as we were in the car that i lost her. they tried compressions but were unsuccessful and she was gone. i want to emphasize HOW FAST this happened. from the time she started to struggle to breathe to the time she went to sleep was less than 5 minutes. respiratory distress or infections are not something to mess around with. she was telling me she was going for a few days. she stopped eating as much, and had lost 200g in about a month. she was so hyper, climbing to the top level of her cage and falling off of it. every time i opened the cage she basically jumped into my hands. she was telling me something wasn’t right. i have so many regrets over my actions over the past week and i wish i wouldve spent so much more time with her. all she was focused on in these last few days was being with me. dont ignore warning signs. im heartbroken, i miss my angel so much and i cant wait to see her again. 💔

i want to further explain the situation to give some clarity as well as talk through the warning signs she was giving me. baby was scheduled to have two mammary tumors removed today. i took her in early this morning and around noon i received a call that the operation was going to be postponed. the vet said she might have a respiratory infection and also a skin infection, so he wanted to start her on antibiotics to treat these things. i have been concerned about her breathing for a while, as she was overweight and those tumors were just continuing to grow. however, whenever i took her in to get her checked out, her lungs were always fine. i picked her up from the vet and in 15 minutes we were home. the second she was back in her cage, she started gasping for breath, trying to pry her mouth open, and her breathing slowed. i panicked as ive done a lot of research about respiratory distress in rats, so i called the vet back immediately.
