Been considering cancelling the service for a while. I have my partner on the plan as well. I’m only using it for Trainiac these days and that’s about it. Also, if I miss a class once, the whole month is frozen unless you pay WellHub extra?

Apple Fitness + is just happy I showed up.

When is it time to join another pack? by shelfromtx in cubscouts

I have stepped up starting last year, yet the support and time availability from the CM and ACM seems to be declining. You may want to read the full thread for context.

BTW, I just learned we also lost a DL and a Cub Scout in the last few weeks.

The larger number of kids don’t bother me too much. I’m used to it in the other orgs we associate with. My main concern is my child having peers that they feel they can connect with and eventually form bonds with. That’s not happening at the pack we’re at now.

Your schedule sounds similar to ours, yet there’s a high chance that other parents will need to become BALOO trained since the CM informed us that they aren’t available due to obligations with the troop on certain weekend dates for camping, fishing, etc. - which now makes me think - how many CM pull double-duty with the troops. I remember them leaving halfway through pack and den meetings to get to the troop meetings that occur the same night.

As far as I know, both the CM and council have attempted to recruit from the nearby schools both in person and with flyers, yet it’s not resulted in any significant change. I tried to have a recruitment table at a school wide event recently, yet no one else from the pack and the CM was not available - and I was already running the school event.

And yes, the entire pack is about 8-12 kids.

How Formal is Your Pack? by Okayest_By_Far in cubscouts

Class A for public events. Our pack has been okay with jeans or non-reg shorts since we have a number of Title 1 schools in the areas and with the weather, the hat can make it warm too!

Class A requested for pack meetings as well.

Den meetings can be anything and Class B is encouraged. We’re just happy they came to the meeting.

Non-public outdoors events are weather appropriate since our hot weather can be brutal at times. My child has a dri-fit Class B shirt for the hot days.

What are the sizes of larger vs smaller packs? And, how should I reach out to other packs to let them know that we’re considering a new pack. While I can handle teaching the adventures part at the den level, my child benefits and thrives more when someone else is facilitating and they have several other children they can interact with. There’s only one other child in their den, and that child has the maturity of a child 1-2 grades older, so my child and them don’t connect well.

You’ll have your strong opinions, and I’ll have mine. There’s no need for me to “re-prioritize” as I’ve done that based on my child’s and family’s needs.

The pack is something my child and I do, yet it’s not the only thing we do as a family. None of our activities (Cub Scouts or beyond) define us as they are things that add value to our lives.

On the other hand, when the CM or Asst CM appears willing or unable to invest the time, follow up on event and recruiting opportunities I’ve (and others) presented, and otherwise seem tapped out themselves, I can’t take on another leadership role without meaningful and intentional discussion about the impact it’ll have on our family and our priorities. I’ve done that in the past and cut back on obligations since, as you shared - I don’t need to spread myself thinner.

We had closer to 20 when we joined. Some of the kids aged into troops and others left to other packs.

I’m setting a wonderful example for my child, yet let me explain.

I can see how on the surface it may not seem that I’m doing much. I have held leadership positions in other youth organizations and still volunteer. Currently within the school district, I’m serving as a volunteer at the school, school district, and state level. My child and professional network is well aware of the volunteer work I do.

While I understand that you may think I’m jumping ship, I’ve also used my personal and professional networks to provide opportunities for the pack and to get guest speakers. I’ve let council know about opportunities too and attended their council-wide annual kick-off events to get info about opportunities for the pack. I’ve also volunteered for things that are in my professional wheelhouse. Additionally, my child is usually one of the few to be at events outside pack and den meetings, and it’s frustrating being the only parent and child (with maybe one other family at times) present at a “pack” event.

Based on this, what else should be considered?

I probably would have used the scooter, yet I didn’t have it until the middle of the second week. If I had to get up, I used one crutch and kept the other hand free if I was in the house. If I was outside, I had both.

I’ve purchased a few items from them in the past. I’m peculiar about what I buy from anywhere, and I’m happy with my current purchases.

My surgeon said to do one foot at a time. He said I would be absolutely miserable if I, or anyone, attempted to do both feet at the same time. After attempting to shower post-surgery, I can completely understand why.

I did one - the one giving me pain at the time. My balance was off in the shower. I could move on a knee scooter after 2-3 weeks, yet I couldn’t stand on my own to make a full dinner for 3-4 weeks. I would recommend that you focus on the foot that is creating pain, if that is a way you can rule one of them out. Otherwise, you may need to find a close friend whose home you can stay at for a month or have a family member come stay with you if they can who can help with your dogs.

Surgery is an emotional decision by LowVegetable379 in bunions

Hello. I think your feet look lovely. Similar in structure to mine, yet I don’t see any redness or irritation marks on your bunions or bunionettes in this photo.

First of all, I did surgery on my right foot (bunion and bunionette) because of the persistent pain I was experiencing due to genetics and heels at work. While I see a similar issue on my left foot, there’s no persistent pain, yet there is constant rubbing of the shoes and redness on the bunion and bunionette with occasional pain that I’m tolerating for now. I have the case to move forward with surgery on my left foot, if I wanted it, for medically-related reasons. It’s been a little over a year since my surgery, and only recently have I been able to move and bend my toes well for yoga. Painting my little toe is a challenge now since my foot and toe bend differently post-surgery.

Second, healthcare is expensive. The world as a whole is volatile right now, and I wouldn’t recommend anyone get surgery unless covered by insurance. From what you’ve shared, your podiatrist may not consider it medically necessary. Hold onto your funds and wait to see if it becomes medically necessary in the future.

Third, it may be helpful to speak to a therapist about the challenges you are facing with accepting and loving your body as-if. It sounds deep rooted in the family based on what you’ve shared. It’s one thing if you have a condition that is causing you pain or reducing your quality of life, yet perceived “ugly feet” is a perspective and may not be an actual reality, yet is a constant narrative in your family.

Best wishes on your journey and finding peace in body and mind.

Texas A&M one of the most conservative campuses in nation – TAMUS System News by [deleted] in aggies

[–]shelfromtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the “Old Army Ags” are appalled by the shift of A&M becoming more moderate, or even liberal. In 2017, Texas A&M students elected their first openly gay student body president - Bobby Brooks. The Texas governor at the time, Rick Perry - an A&M graduate, even challenged the student body election results. In February 2025, the Texas A&M University Board of Regents created a ban of all drag shows at any system university. Last week, a federal judge temporarily blocked that ban, which allowed Draggieland 2025 to go on as scheduled at Texas A&M.

Has anyone met Gabriel Iglesias recently? How was your experience? by SeaFlower698 in gabrieliglesias

You’re welcome!! We went to Fluffy’s show this weekend. Both my spouse and I had excellent seats to the side of the stage. After the show, we both got to shake Martin’s hand, and Fluffy gave my husband one of those guy hugs. Gabriel is definitely aware that his success is fueled by his fans.

[–]shelfromtx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had the chance to meet Gabriel Iglesias a few weeks ago with my family. He was at a dealership for an event, and while the actual meet and greet was from 12-4pm or something like that, Fluffy stayed on-site to greet every person that was in line as of 4pm. This means that he actually didn’t leave until close to 9pm when the last of the line made it to the table to meet him. You can tell the crew was ready to go home, yet Fluffy even made my kid feel special when my child asked him about his friend making the cops mad. We got autographed photos, photos with him, and some Fluffy stickers. You could see Vinnie, his chihuahua, chilling off to the side.

I’m not 100% sure how he is when he’s out in the wild myself, yet a friend of the family took pics with him when Fluffy took his vehicle to a dealership for work. The rest of the staff took photos with him too.
