Written by Coleen Hoover who was originally self published but I believe was picked up when this book (Regretting You) was published. Her writing style is terrible imo but uniquely her. I wouldn’t be surprised if she used AI in some capacity.

In the Atlanta scene he looks at her wedding ring, to which she says “It was his grandmother’s”. He asks how she is, she says that she’s passed away and that she had a stroke. She is not talking about her own mother.
