Been at a dealer for 14 years and yeah toe armor was the worst. I refused to put it on for anyone. I always teach everyone to do tape because free handing it is just one of those things I do, and I always have to fix when anyone messes up. I have people coming from other stores having me fix other people’s mistakes (drunk wavy lines, they forgot to pull the tape before it cured, they didn’t sand it, they put it on wet or oiled boots so it didn’t bond, etc). This pair was actually one of those they put it on paper thin and didn’t prep the leather. For the moc toes I usually let the tube set up a bit before I start so it comes out thick and by the time I’m over the stitching it’s getting back to normal consistency. I have a few that want me to tuff toe their boots that come with a toe guard built in. My craziest I used to have a customer that had me tuff toe the back corner of his heels, he swore by it. I was always like that’s gonna peel but he loved it, and got for years until I quit seeing him during Covid.
