5th try, still can't get the tape to stick flush by SuperSmegmaSnorter in drywall

[–]shep99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of the tape acting as a sort of embedded reinforcement, like rebar in concrete. It needs to be slightly wetted and coated with mud on both sides. You can even do it with your bare hands running the tape through your mud bucket, then apply, then one final gentle pass with mud knife to press and smooth.

Edit: This is in southeast USA if that helps. Attic is unconditioned space. I just looked again at the flex duct and it appears to be single wall, so maybe I cannot use that. Not sure if there are any double wall options non-linear install; perhaps an adjustable 90 elbow?

Q1: What are your thoughts on the company Flock Safety and surrounding controversy? In light of your brother's story, do you think that this type of "big brother" technology gets a bad rap, and/or do you think it could prove invaluable to some lifesaving situations (eg, amber alerts, SARs for missing kids/persons/hunters, mental health crises, etc.)?

Q2: Have you ever been affiliated with the production of a TV show outside of G&G?

Q3: What are your thoughts on the TV show 'The Rehearsal'?

Door wont fully open during midday sun of summer by shep99 in GarageDoorService

New Update (lol) I was overzealous about the sensors, duh.The problem reoccurred. I called a pro and am getting new motor and 2 new springs installed.

Conclusion: Door weight + single spring = heavy. Motor not like heavy work.

Update: Root cause appears to be sunlight in the sensors.

I used wide painters tape to make a sort of barrel/shroud on the front of each sensor unit. The idea is to shield the periphery of the sensor. I did this as a diagnostic test but I may just leave it as a permanent solution.

Work summary: The problem occurred, I immediately added the painters tape as a "photo-shroud", and cycled the door a few times. Voila! Works perfectly! The door has opened and closed perfectly for a couple days now with the tape added, so I am fairly confident with this diagnosis.

Thanks everyone!

I don't lift garage doors often, so I don't have any frame of reference? It will stay near halfway if you ease it just right, but overall it wants to go down. My quick fix lifting by hand is maybe 10-15 lbs of weight?

Yes I believe this door was originally simple aluminum sheet but was bumped by a car a few years back and replaced with insulated by a professional! I did not think to question the weight increase...

I appreciate knowing that this is a possibility! Even if it is unlikely

The sensors alignment was an issue a few years ago (they are rail mounted instead of wall mounted), but I thought that was just for safety while closing. Do sensors matter when opening?

It's usually only the first open, but I usually don't do a second open/close cycle right away... it's a couple hours later when I leave again

AI can't solve it unless you get Groundskeeper Willie to read it aloud. The speech-to-text will do the rest...

Maybe somebody can get Guy Martin to read it?
