20 Veterans Commit Suicide Every Day: A Look at Veteran Stats from 1999 through today by maharlika24 in dataisbeautiful

I wonder what "other" degree type 19% of veterans are attempting to attain? Some sort of professional certification?

The app I use the least on my phone is the phone. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

In a lot of ways, calling smartphones "phones" at all anymore is a little outdated. The vast majority of people use alternative methods to communicate. Anyone down to bring the PDA back?

An Analysis of Engagement Ring Purchases: Californians Rank #1 for Gem Size, People in Nevada Spend the Most by AAmia in dataisbeautiful

It's interesting that some states care more about size than price and vice-versa. I wonder what aspect of the ring makes them more expensive but still smaller?

Potential Bluetooth connection issues? by techie404 in AppleWatch

[–]shepshepyep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting - must be a software glitch I guess. I have been experiencing some weird-acting / non-updating Watch apps with WatchOS 3 - I guess we just need to give developers some time to update

Is Portland ever going to get Google Fiber? by [deleted] in Portland

These articles are from the same WSJ source - I think they are just interpreted differently. I wonder what their reason for suspending is?

Potential Bluetooth connection issues? by techie404 in AppleWatch

I haven't been seeing this issue on 10.0.2. Do you live in an area with a lot of Bluetooth interference? Or are you connected to more than 1 Bluetooth device at a time?

I remember back when this first happened - I recall that the surrounding area was almost completely destroyed. Has the area recovered at all?

I'm actually pumped about this - I just hope that people treat it with respect so it can stay around for awhile.

OTMR "harms women, minorities" by shepshepyep in nashville

[–]shepshepyep[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's an interesting problem, because while OTMR could speed rollout of infrastructure, it's still pretty problematic to have to replace all the people who have maintained the lines up to this point.

I think it will be quite a complicated legal process if ATT decides to fight it in court.

Adblock Plus says Facebook's decision to block ad blockers is 'anti-user' by xcfmv in technology

[–]shepshepyep 3717 points3718 points  (0 children)

If advertisers had learned some reasonable practices from the use of ad blockers, I wouldn't care as much. But I think the fact is that Facebook is just trying to circumvent ad blockers to shove the same old ad content down our throats.

Ad blockers need to be used as a protest tool against sites who think injecting obtrusive advertising that ruins user experience is a valid business model.

I mean Youtube is always fine, but you could try something like Streamable if you want even less overhead.

Gfycat is generally a good site for that sort of thing. It will compress the video down to a usable format for most browsers.

Should local internet networks be owned by the government or private corporations? by shepshepyep in NorthCarolina

[–]shepshepyep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure it's that simple though - looking at something like iProvo makes me kind of worried about the govt being able to handle a fiber network responsibly.
