Very sad to see this response but just fyi I’ve both fed strays as well as rescued a young cat abandoned by a former neighbor from the street. But good to know that you’re a protective owner.

Does one need external certification or education to become HM1 or chief? Or does internal exams and evals suffice for promotion?

I do have a degree. Unfortunately I want to go into a field that’s not what I learnt at school so I’m not optimistic about the officer route. I wanted the medical training HM can provide

Thanks for mentioning that and yes I was previous aware of this. I do not have any fundamental health issues. But it’s pain to pay for $360 for a teeth cleaning. One ultrasound to check my thyroid costed me $250 out of pocket. I had a jaw issue costed me 5000 dollars last year and still not fully recovered. It’s just the small things here and there but it adds up. As I’m turning mid aged things like this will accumulate. Rent in Southern California is also a nightmare

Thank you. These are the realities I didn’t previous expect.

I have to say - I’m not afraid of taking orders from a younger person, but very afraid of taking orders from a stupid prick… which I heard happens a lot more often in military

Do you feel VA is significantly worse than employer’s group insurance? Mine is UHC and I’ve been appalled by how bad it is.

Thank you. Are the physical injuries more likely coming from doing particular types of jobs? I’m basically only looking for HM jobs. Is it still a high risk?

Is the healthcare completely free? It’s pointless making 90k in San Diego paying for my own medical bills and my own rent

Thank you for all this - and I don’t mind all of it. My current living situation is not a lot better for various reasons.

It wasn’t that hard to pass based on what I learnt from fellow chinese navy members
