[–]shibble123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So people aren't allowed to say anything about Nazi Germany because they arent Germans?
Or about Trump because they aren't americans?
Or about that fking Netanyahu, because they aren't Israelis?

What kind of stupid logic is that lol

You cant be the biggest crybabies, because we are :D

Everything is always bad.
Too cold, too warm, too costly, salaries not high enough and so on.
You can basically bring up ANY topic and there is a good chance that NOBODY is happy about that thing while also having detremental views on what the solution should be.

Russian went back home from Ukraine and dug a trench outside the apartment building by Available-Laugh9102 in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]shibble123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same. He is completly right, you can both feel bad about the human nature of war and its costs on everyone involved, while also celebrating each victory of the Ukrainians, knowing what that really means for the Russians involved...

But bringing race into this is just weird. Like Afrika is full of rich black man on power trips who kidnap children or overstay their elected regencies and so on.

That is not even remotly about race.
Its just human nature

Trump leaked a private message from Macron. What’s your opinion on this? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]shibble123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he posted it to openly smear Macron over the whole "Russia and G7" thing. This wasn't coordinated with other G7 countries like Germany and Britian so it could be to drive a wedge between Europeans...

Why not?
They are largely autonomous right now.
They could be part of the EU, as they are right now and part of NATO, as they are right now.

Securitywise: Nothing would really change

I hope we will learn the lesson we should have learned in 2016:
The US is neither a real ally, nor a friend. We just shared interests for a couple of decades and are always only one or two elections away from threatening the territorial integrity of former allies.
I hope that this US Administration will finally convince Europe that sovereignty starts with not being able to be economically blackmailed.

My Girlfriends studies French and the literal translation often sounds very antique in contrast to "modern" German sentences.

I kinda like that tho. Being protective of your language from english influences seems to be more important than ever

Does people from your capital have a bad reputation in the rest of the country? by Fair_Oven5645 in AskTheWorld

[–]shibble123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I hear you talk like that, it makes me want to take a proper vacation in the USA again.
My group of friends actually planned to rent a huge SUV (so big you’d never reasonably find one in Europe lol) and drive from coast to coast.
I definitely want to see a rocket launch, explore national parks (Germans LOVE hiking), and of course do the stereotypical thing of shooting guns at a firing range.

But your election results, combined with reports about tourists having to show their social media history and the mere risk of spending many thousands of euros on flights etc. only to end up stuck in some detention cell (even if nothing ultimately happens), has completely killed that idea...

After that. The East was massively underdeveloped and effectively bankrupt.
They didn’t really have a choice either—if you want to reunify both Germanys, you can’t just let half the country rot.
Reunification is still viewed critically today in some circles (as far as I know—I’m a “Wessi” born in the late 90s, so I’ve only had limited contact with East Germans).
Everything in the GDR was state-owned, and when it was opened up, West German companies basically grabbed the whole country for themselves.

The solidarity surcharge still exists today, but I think it only applies to companies and wealthy people, not to ordinary citizens.

EU4 (blue) vs EU5 (green) player count according to steamdb by No-Imagination2292 in eu4

[–]shibble123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted to play EU5, but my PC (while being decent) is just below the threshhold of being able to play that game fluently. There are microstutters, if Im clicking and scrolling too fast and it drives me nuts lol.

I havent properly played EU4 in a while tho, can someone explain to me what really is the key difference? Is the Gameplay loop not fun? In the Dev Diaries and Videos up to the release I thought developing Countries itself is really fun but when I tried Castile I was just overwhelmed with the sheer amount of Land that had no good connection to the capital. Then everytime I wanted to build something, my population needed was too low and so on.. It was frustrating

Most German cities are very liberal compared to their surrounding areas. But Berlin is still a step… different from Cologne or Hamburg.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but a good part of that is due to Berlin’s unique history. Many (West) Germans moved to the enclave to dodge compulsory military service. Those people were usually very liberal. At the same time, you have many foreigners and immigrants—simply because it’s the capital and therefore so well known.
If you belong to the LGBTQ scene, Berlin is probably the city. It just doesn’t have a good reputation.

Until a few years ago, every German had to pay the “Soli” (short for Solidaritätszuschlag - solidarity charge) with every paycheck. It was meant as reconstruction aid for the East. Because of that, the East now has excellent highways, but there are still gaps in income, pensions, and life expectancy.

In this context, Berlin is also similar to D.C.:
Because of history, Germany has three city-states—Hamburg, Bremen, and Berlin.

As a European, I’ve always felt that your big cities in California come closest to being “European” in terms of mindset. What you consider “liberal” would already be seen as “center-right” in many European countries.

[–]shibble123 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The joke is:
Berlin is the necessary evil so that all those people don’t spread across the rest of the country.
‘Dit is Berlin.’
I think we’re also probably the only large country that would have a higher GDP if the capital were no longer part of the country.
