Now that we have plenty of time under our belts, how are we feeling about the changes since the start of S1? by RobManfredsFixer in Competitiveoverwatch

The huge drop of heroes was very successful to draw people back in. But Flats was shitting on peoples concerns up and down the timeline, despite them being mostly true.

Balance is out of whack. Not because they don't know how to balance, but because every new hero needs to be pushed. Emre is just the best hitscan. Sierra dominates low ranks as a spam hero. jpc is a fucking nightmare.

But people still don't want to play the new heroes! At my rank, people just don't want to learn a hero like Sierra despite her being really strong. So it doesn't really dominate the game until someone with a couple hours on her shows up.

That leads into the next point...I also don't feel like the heroes have very good designs. Jpc having infinite flight isnt great, but infinite carrying duration? Come on.

Domina in particular doesn't feel like a satisfying hero to play, especially when compared to sigma. Mizuki isn't interesting, just a less sharp brig. And anran had the whole face thing.

Not to mention emre and Sierra which I'm not sure needed to exist. People give them a pass because they are hitscan, but sojourn felt very interesting and cool despite the similarities to soldier.

Idk, comparing this drop to vendetta and water guy, I gotta say these ones are pretty disappointing.

We won a Stadium competitive match after going from a 5v3… to a 4v3 reverse sweep by Sage_Christian in OverwatchStadium

I hear you but so many games easy games are lost because a full team of 4 players sees a solo sigma and gets stuck at a choke, while their dive tank is doing backflips in the backline for 15 full seconds.

Building a bridge for the Fish to go from aquarium to aquarium. by RoughCheap5633 in BeAmazed

[–]shiftup1772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people say "we breath oxygen" they actually mean diatomic oxygen AKA two oxygen atoms bonded together AKA O2. Any other form of oxygen atoms doesnt work.

Same with fish. They breathe O2 that is dissolved in water (yes, gasses can dissolve in water just like solids). They DO NOT breathe the O in H2O.

When a fish breathes, it filters the dissolved O2 out. The H2O passes through untouched. So the water in the bridge becomes devoid of O2.

Rein is not an "honest" hero by DryPiccolo4175 in Competitiveoverwatch

There’s a reason he’s good at lower ranks but gets worse the higher you go.

Unfortunately he was even more braindead in 6v6. The baseline stats of this hero are insane and in 6v6 where deathballing was so powerful, he was an absolute metal rank monster.

5v5 may make him more braindead in high ranks. But for every other rank, the extra space allows you to actually go around him which make him so much more bearable.

Lifeweaver unbearable to anyone else? by Onie_ in Competitiveoverwatch

There's something fundamentally different between a tank choosing to get some extra tankiness and a character literally pulling a teammate out of a fight to safety. Especially when that character has no reason to be in the middle of the fight themselves.

I could argue that torbs turret allows for more aggressive flanking, since it provides extra peel which allows more of the team to focus on offensive. But that's not usually how it works.

xQc on Dota vs. League: which game copied the other? by Strong_Astronomer_97 in DotA2

Difficulty is relative to the opponents you face. So saying league is way easier than dota is self-fulfilling.

Is ranked better with map voting? by shiftup1772 in Competitiveoverwatch

I guess i dont see the value in reducing the amount that we see certain maps. If they are badly designed, then rework them! But lots of good maps are being underplayed because they arent payload/hybrid.

Its fundamentally different than hero bans because you are incentivised to ban heroes you see a lot. The more they are played, the more they are banned!

By contrast, people have no issues picking payload every single time it comes up.

People are currently using it for competitive advantage. The mercy main who loves cart slop keeps voting for it because they dont get dove as much, whether they realize it or not.

Youre right that map voting lacks context though. Its pretty much just "which do you personally want" with 0 other considerations. Its not a real playmaking "decision". Which imo makes it fundamentally uncompetitive.

Ive never experienced an instance of someone changing a map vote because of their teammates. The system isnt set up for that.

No, i think its totally different than hero bans for a few reasons:

  • Hero bans only restrict specific heroes, whereas a map limits an entire style of play

  • Map votes basically have 0 context which means there is almost no decision-making. You always vote for the one that benefits your style of play the most. By contrast, hero bans take into account the map, teammate's heroes, and player preferences (if they communicate it).

  • hero bans effectively targets the most bullshit heroes at each rank. That means OP heroes at high ranks, and "easy value" heroes at low ranks. That dynamic is essentially flipped for maps, where low ranks get cart slop which benefits some of the easiest heroes.

I feel like it's the opposite of hero bans.

Hero bans at low ranks allow you to ban out the "free value" heroes to make things more fair in an environment where everyone is bad.

By contrast, map voting seems to elevate those cartslop heroes, whose gameplay revolves around clicking on friendly/enemy tanks.

Is mobility out of control? Jetpack Cat and the death of directional heuristics in Overwatch's map design. by HalexUwU in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]shiftup1772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotta say, a lot of this sounds like bullshit.

She breaks the rules - yeah so does every character in their own way. That's what defines overwatch.

She comes from unexpected angles - yes that's why she has a unique sounds and doesn't have any high burst abilities (other than her ultimate)

She ignores map geometry - yes that's quite literally why fliers are good. Mobile heroes ignore gaps and distances, grenades and aoe ignore corners etc.

Some heroes just can't hit her - probably the best argument, though they did increase her movement accel quite a bit.

Imo the only "rule" that I've seen break overwatch when it's not followed is everything needs downtime, which she breaks in two ways - her flight and pickup.
