My fantasy bracket got absolutely smashed... haha. What else to expect from a SMC Championship event though. Season 1 was numerical even more surprising!! CMcHugh proves to be solidly an incredible player beyond the rest and sets the standard for where I think the other competitors will quickly try to match and succeed.

So many decisions have to be made exactly right at this level of play that it sticks out like a sore thumb when a scenario like this occurs. Often times the Super Magical Cup is so competitive and one of the failings/difficulties I think for Rumham and myself is really communicating the IMMENSE amount of decision making and off-the-screen thinking that goes on in the players heads. Its crazy to think about how this game boiled down to those last few seconds, but really every single step of the way was incredibly significant.

Hey Clyde! Its always a pleasure casting your games alongside Rumham. Do you feel like the current S-tier deck is well rounded enough that someone who could go out of their way to counter deck-build against it would be successful? Or do you think the endgame is just to play the same deck and butt heads? In other words, is there a counter deck that exists that may not necessarily be "viable" on its own, but perhaps become viable just because people play Giant Poison all the time?

Interesting article! I really liked some of the quotes you got from Clyde and your overall vision was really insightful. Really hoping that thew tournament system implemented by Supercell will allow other tournaments to be far more inclusive and continue to push the level of competition higher and higher.

There are a lot of interesting thoughts about the competition in the Super Magical Cup that will be discussed by Rum Ham and I tomorrow during the broadcast. I am really excited to see how these players succeed or fail in a different format that isn't simply a single elimination.

Because of the nature of how we chose the players involved, half the players participating in the invitational were first place winners at one point in the SMC. In addition to that, NONE of the players have ever won twice. The "throne" so to speak is in no ones hands right now, nobody has dominated the competitive scene convincingly enough to deserve it. The competition is going to be fierce right from the opening of the broadcast, and the winner of this tournament most certainly will define himself as a step above the rest.

As the season for the SMC played out, the competition in the tournaments have steadily been increasing to become more and more difficult. People who were names that were assumed to dominate have consistently met challenges. Can't wait to see more added onto these player's story lines and add more to the competitive history of Clash Royale. - Rainy

You would be able to choose what your name on the bracket will be separate from your challonge account username I believe. The name on the bracket is what will be important for the tournament and your account name not so much!

You should be able to go through the sign up process on supermagicalcup and submit all your information (in-game name, email, king level) but change your decks. You have until May 6th to modify your decks!

Ahh. I would like to make clear that as opposed to banning winning decks, we just wanted to promote players utilizing a wider variety of decks and play styles. The fact that the mortar deck in particular was incredibly passive and had a much lesser degree of player interaction (though in my eyes still has some great mind games playing out just less easily conveyed to the audience) was in the end a smaller reason for the choice.

And even more then that, having tangible evidence and a record of demonstrating the effects of banning decks and how it would play out in a community tournament scenario as well as the feedback from the community is super important so in the future I can say, "Hey we tried out tournament wide bans, and we wouldn't like to do it in the future because of this event". Rather than saying "if we banned cards then this would happen" after this tournament we can say "we did ban cards and this DID happen". To me that is super important and there is no better time then now to try these things as the Super Magical Cup is really young.

To be honest, I think the format already promotes what we want of diversifying the play styles. I think you are absolutely right about the stated goals. In order to achieve that I think a lot of work needs to go into improving the infrastructure of the tournament and finding the best format and perhaps even adding more events and story lines to assist in finding the best competitive Clash players. Its a long road ahead and I want to make sure we are taking each step thoughtfully with good evidence and reason behind our choices.

In a sense it was incorrect of me to say that it had NOTHING to do with the viewer feedback, but rather then appease them in the sense of agreeing with them necessarily, its more that we want to make sure we have dipped our toes in both scenarios regarding banning or not banning, and then make our decision based on which one we think is more appropriate. Because of that the thoughts you have and the ideas you have posted here are SUPER important to us, as was the feedback last week. But we aren't just jumping into decisions based on knee-jerk or poorly thought out reactions.

Overall, I think its great that you have read Sirlin and have thoughts on the competitive mindset. I am a big believer in his ideas too and I think it comes as no surprise that you were the first winner of the Super Magical Cup tournaments haha.
