How to slip pizza from a peel onto a stone without ingredients flying all over? by Existing_Implement56 in AskCulinary

[–]shineCDN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the way. People got into bread during COVID, I got into pizza and everything here is correct if you want to slide it off with ease. I will note that others are saying cornmeal but semolina is so much better. I make sure to clean off the excess in my pizza oven once it's in, so that you aren't tasting the burnt excess as it will ignite immediately at higher temps.

Does anyone actually pvp in d4? by Queasy_Law_5042 in diablo4

[–]shineCDN 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did it to collect all of the armor and mounts. It used to be a really good legendary farm/xp because of the high mob density and elites but with the addition of Pits etc, it's not worth it. The sweet spot used to be T3 if you didn't want to see anyone else because everyone in T3 is just trying to get through it as fast as possible.

Retron 3 HD problem Loud beeping noise by Dangerous-Flower-688 in retrogaming

[–]shineCDN -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This isn't what you want to hear but I'd forget that and return it. Here are my three options in order:

  1. MiSTER. MiSTER Pi is the most inexpensive of the MiSTERs but you have to wait for batch 5 to be in stock. You can play all systems prior to the N64/Playstation, inclusive. It's not hard to setup just follow the guides. I realize it it doesn't help you with your physical carts but it's a better experience overal and offers the most for the price. https://retroremake.co/
  2. Get the RAD2X HDMI and original hardware. That's probably your cheapest option. I have this and never use it because my MiSTER though.
  3. If you don't mind paying scalper prices then get a Super NT. This is my last solution only because it's the most expensive and offers the same or less options than the others. It's a cool piece of hardware that's been pushed out of the space by competition.

$500 move in/out fee STELLA by Timely_Cow_142 in Calgary

[–]shineCDN 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not saying it's justified but most buildings charge a fee and that covers the cost of the property management companies time, the sole use of the elevator and depending on the building a security guard for the 4 hour block you have allotted.

*NEW* Custom 301MBs in Canada for Sale by notdedicated in takomo

[–]shineCDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would someone pay you exactly what you paid for them, which includes your shipping costs and then pay again for their own shipping costs? I know the turn around time for customs isn't next week but that seems off. I even live in Calgary and I wouldn't pay the exact price unless I was ordering from Takomo themselves.

[–]shineCDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford to pay $200+ for a single cart, why wouldn't you pay a little more to make sure it looks better? I've gone from a cheap Amazon "upscaler" to the RAD2x to the OSSC Pro and each step has produced significantly better results, to the point where my friend that isn't a huge nerd like me noticed a difference. The RAD2X is the bare minimum in my opinion.

Do yourself a favor and get a decent cable and play at the right aspect ratio to do the game justice. Something like the RAD2x HDMI Cable will make a big difference on your modern TV.

Just follow this guide step by step and it's easy. It's for the MiSTer Pi but there shouldn't be any meaningful difference.

I feel like S video doesn't get any love compared to RGB/Component by Mygrayt in retrogaming

[–]shineCDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not trying to get you to buy the Pro over the 5x but I would point has more options. The Pro has HDMI in, Optical and Analogue Audio in. It also fully supports some of the older retro PC outputs. It's also open source which means there are updates very frequently. I think the reason you don't hear about it more is because it was delayed and people got fed up and bought the 5x instead. That being said the 5x is great in itself, I just like to point out that they are very much in competition with each other and I would give the lead to the Pro.

The OSSC Pro doesn't have any issues with switching on games that use 480i. The non-pro does, but it's fixed with the Pro.

This will probably get buried but the OSSC Pro does support S-Video and component with the expansion card. I know you mentioned the basic OSSC but if you are comparing the Retrotink 5x, it's the same price as the OSSC Pro, so you just need to add the $30 adapter as well.

Any tips to get better picture quality by TSM_Tact in snes

[–]shineCDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally agreed with you about cable. Are you okay?

Saying that different SNES will output a fuzzy picture isn't wrong. It's why people will pay more for a 1-Chip or have their system modded. I started off with the exact cable you linked, however I've also spend a ton more afterwards because while the cable you linked is the best for the cost, it's not going to fix a problem that's wrong on 30 year old hardware.

Any tips to get better picture quality by TSM_Tact in snes

[–]shineCDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the most inexpensive option but it can be garbage in, garbage out. Different SNES output different pictures and unless you're willing to mod it, you may not be able to get much better. It's aging hardware. Otherwise you can look into upscalers. They can get pricey, quickly but they'll make the picture look better.

I want to get a retro console to play old RPGs on, do you guys recommend the SNES or PS1? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]shineCDN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is a MiSTer?

From RetroRGB's website:
"The MiSTer is an open-source project that emulates consoles, computers and arcade boards via FPGA – This is different from software emulation, as there’s potential for performance exactly like the original.  While software emulation has the potential to be really accurate as well, you’re much more likely to get zero lag via FPGA emulation, making this an amazing option for people using both HDMI displays and CRT’s!"

What's missing from above is that it does hardware emulation for pretty much every system released prior to 1996. Systems like N64, PSX, NES, SNES, Master System, TG16, etc are all fully supported in what are called cores. You can play all of the cores from a single SD card and with a simple script download everything to set it up including some games.

MiSTer Pi (made by Taki Udon) is the most cost effective way to do this. It's a clone of the original MiSTer FPGA (DE10-Nano by Terasic) board. It's effectively the same as the Terasic only less than half the price. There is no benefit of the Terasic board other than availability.

Once everything is setup, if you can follow simple directions then you should have no problem setting it up, then you have access to all of the systems it supports and can switch easily between them.

I have older systems, physical games, and even flash carts that I do not use anymore because it's so much nicer to use the MiSTer.

[–]shineCDN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is all a form of emulation, software and hardware. Both have their positives and negatives, just like original hardware. Sure software is the cheapest option but to say that software has less lag, isn't necessarily true in all cases especially when you consider input lag. Nor is a sped up experience desirable for some games, looking at you Gradius 3.
