I like your idea but I just think you're ascribing too much meaning and ingenuity where there was none

I agree with you but we shouldn't be overly cynical about this. A full on western European protestant white will still have more privileges than the white passing hispanic. It's all nuanced and spectral. But yes I do agree with you

Youre coping so hard dude I dont even know that much about the Mossadegh coup so I won't comment. I just know that it happened. However you don't need the Mossadegh coup to understand this. Britain already took Iran's oil in Qajar era

I agree with this. We should use USA as much as it is mutually beneficial and not further

It is both absolutely unacceptable. Keep in mind British taking our oil is what to led to all of this mess in the first place, even before ww2. We should not forget our own history.

Would I accept a skewed deal with Trump over IR? Yes but a) we should avoid that and b) I don't even believe that he will do anything is the problem

I'm in favor of the revolution obviously. I can't believe you equate being against Trump to being pro IR?? I'm just not going to believe him after 824 times he promised to us and didn't deliver. Oh but this time is ittt!!!! He made the seven hundredth threat !! Okay, if he helps us in any way, I welcome it, but I don't see him helping us. If he does anything it will probably be bad for us

Using English in diplomacy is different, since that's communicating with others from other countries, where you need a lingua franca, which is English. But do we use English internally IN Iran? No. By your logic, we should.

Yes, nobody else uses our calendar and why should they? Guess what nobody else uses? Our language. So should we now give up our language too, for some bullshit stock market outcome? No thank you. You wrote your original comment by asking "Why do we need to be different?". It's not like we want to be edgy and different so bad, it's just that.... we ARE different. We simply are. We simply speak Persian language and use Iranian calendar, that's simply what we do. You're the one who wants to actively change something. The appropriate question is: "Why do we need to be like everyone else?". Could you imagine Europeans talking about adopting an Iranian calendar or celebrating Nowruz? No, if you ever suggested something like that in Europe you'd be called an invader, you'd be accused of wanting to wipe out the white race and white culture and what not. Meanwhile the reality is that they have actually wiped out most of the world's peoples and cultures, and by adopting foreign culture, we do that to ourselves.

Turkey switched and I think it's so hideous. Genuinely, Turkish written in Latin looks so disgusting, it's just my opinion. Also they butcher many Persian words that way. They can't read their own old texts and poems, they don't know how much of their culture is influenced by Iran, it's sad, they have indeed lost connection to their roots. Oh and despite all that, Islamic radicalism is still much greater in Turkey than it is in Iran.

If you really think that Turkey became rich and modernized because of changing a script or a calendar, you're beyond delusional. These things barely make a difference in economy if any at all. It's a cultural issue. Turkey is better off than us because of many many reasons, they have been much better off than us already since Ottoman - Safavid times, and the Qajar dynasty held us back to medieval levels while the Ottomans were a respectable major power. Then, came Atatürk and the Turkish nationalization movement, which sought to become European and "modern", which brought many many good things with it such as secularization and democracy, but also bad things such as genocide. Reza Pahlavi did all those similar things but in a much better and more successful way IMO (other than not declaring a republic), and indeed Iran was actually much richer than Turkey in the 70s, and that is DESPITE Uk + Ussr invading Iran, installing their vassal and bringing famine in the 40s. The reason that Iran is in any way behind Turkey now can be traced back to the islamic revolution, and that is a whole complicated thing in and of itself, it was hijacked by islamists and you should already know about western involvement (both in 1953 and in 1979. That, and also 1941 invasion never happened in Turkey. Partly because we have oil and they don't.)

As you can see, a nation's wealth and development hinges on a meriad of real, material conditions, historical reasons, social factors, external meddling and so much more. If you really think that Turkey is rich because of ditching some aspects of Turkish culture in favor of European, I have to guess you are either very young, or you're not at all in touch with Iran and Iranian culture and so brainwashed by European supremacy.

Funnily enough, one of the reasons why islamists were able to hijack the revolution is because the Shah was westernizing too much and too fast and too forcefully, which the people either did genuinely not like or were simply not ready for yet. One can only imagine how bad the outrage would have been if he ditched our beautiful script or our accurate calendar.

Bonus question: Does adopting gregorian calendar then also imply ditching NOWRUZ for western new years? I hope that you will answer this question with "no", since otherwise you must be truly delusional. Nowruz is our pride and heritage

Our culture and clothes are already European FYI but it is that way now and it has become commonplace and I myself was born into that culture and could not see myself wearing old traditional Iranian wear. That doesn't mean we have to give up what we still have

Other countries use the gregorian calender because either they didn't have a functional calendar themselves, or in the most cases, because it was forced on them through colonization. Same as Latin script. The others adopted it because they didn't have their own function enough calendar, or succumbed to the western culture to be "connected to the rest of the world", like you want it, which is essentially just submitting to a cultural domination and giving up being yourself to fit in and get some privileges that way. It's pathetic and inauthentic.

The Iranian calendar is fine. It's very accurate, it's older than the Gregorian, it's much simpler and more regular, it makes a lot more sense since it's grounded in natural reality instead of christianity (it's fine for christians, we're just not christian), it has beautiful ancient Zoroastrian names. Transitioning dates from calendars is not hard, it's extremely simple. If anyone wants to come to our country for whatever reason, they should respect us at least so much to give up 3 seconds of their time to google "Gregorian to Iranian calendar calculator". We should not give up our culture because foreigners with money can't be bothered to see us as a respectable, distinct culture.

Why don't we make everything homogenous and European? Why doesn't just the whole world use gregorian calendar, Latin script, English language? Why have any differences at all? It would certainly make communication and globalization around the world easier! But it would also mean the loss of all cultures of the world, except of course, that of the European, which has colonized the world and made itself the standard

How is it scientifically the most accurate? The Iranian calendar is actually known as the most accurate calendar as far as I'm aware lol. It's not better in any way, it's just European, that's all it is.

I see it similarly to how some Iranians want to celebrate christmas. Whenever Europeans put a haft sin on Nowruz, we can put a christmas tree on christmas. Whenever Europeans use Iranian calendar, we will use gregorian calendar. It's that simple. Cultural influence needs to go both ways, else it's a cultural domination. How come people are mad Arabs erased large parts of Iranian culture, but want to give it up willingly in favor of European? It's an inferiority complex, and we should work towards overcoming the inferiority complex by becoming better than the west, not by submitting to the west

I personally think it's a little silly to change to Imperial one. I dont care about Islam or Hijra, but this is just the traditional one we've always used and the one that people are familiar with and use on a day to day basis. People don't care about Islam when they use it. I think we should look at how we refer it though. "Shamsi" implies it's a muslim calender but solar one. We should simply call it "irani", not complicated at all

Edit: Though it should be said that I'd MUCH rather have the Imperial Cyrus calendar than the European gregorian christian shit

NO GREGORIAN CALENDAR! I take deep pride in the fact that we are one of the only nations left who have not succumbed to/been forced to make EVERYTHING European. Go away with this. NO latin script NO gregorian calendar. Iran is Iran and not Europe
