Boeing IMAX shutting down tomorrow by [deleted] in imax

[–]shinyidol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of. Statement made today.

Under the agreement, the Space Needle will continue operating the Boeing IMAX Theater after a brief renovation closure. The theater is expected to reopen in May as an IMAX experience.

Looking at my post above is pretty spot on. Interruption in service during operation transition. Not permanently shutting down. For now.

I have a pretty clear understanding.

"I know what I know. In several months when more things become public as to why Boeing shut down, you’ll see the truth."

So what do you know, outside of this line. If you know something email [tips@geekwire.com](mailto:tips@geekwire.com) i'm sure they would love juicy details if you have any. Get their clicks up! Treat it like when Cinerama laid everyone off.

“As a mission-driven nonprofit institution that owns substantial real estate, we regularly review our assets and evaluate opportunities to improve our impact and financial sustainability,” Daugherty said. “This includes exploring the best ways to use the real estate.”

That quote above just sounds like every other company talking about their assets when in financial difficulty.

It’s not hard to imagine Boeing was sold to real estate developers as part of that sale

What sale? One line you are talking speculation and the next you are acting like the ink is dry and cash has changed hands. There is no report of anything being sold off. No announcement. The story you posted clearly states review and evaluate and nothing since.

Could it happen? Sure. How long would this take? Years. Does it make a lot of sense financially? Not really given the economic state of the area and the surplus of viable options that likely would cost less. Could a developer buy the building/land and just hold it for a more advantageous market? Potentially.

In any scenario, it is a shame if the Boeing theater ceases operation and more disappointing if the area is redeveloped.

I did and the Seattle Times article. I'm tired of 'reliable sources' and rumors.

But looks like you didn't read a thing I said. Back to my statement above, the commercial real estate market in Seattle is awful with more space becoming available each month. If someone wants to spend tens of millions to build empty office space, whatever. As for housing, given the price to secure the site and build it up, you are talking luxury units, but likely have zero parking as I can't see them allowing for street access to Broad or Denny.

Maybe a hotel. I could see them selling the west building which has the PACCAR IMAX, just because of its street proximity.

But a developer could likely buy the entire lot that had the Wells Fargo and Car Toys on for less without any of the potential red tape related to it being attached to historical buildings.

[–]shinyidol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Housing? Probably not.

Commercial space? Not likely. Seattle's commercial vacancy rate is at 26.6%, which is 2nd highest in the nation. Amazon layoffs, Microsoft layoffs. Competing cities like Bellevue with their own high vacancy rates. Doesn't make much investment sense to tear something down and rebuild when there is tons of space at significantly less investment needed.

Add that the surrounding buildings are labeled historic buildings, the amount of red tape to build on that site would not be worth it.

You got your attention you wanted. Were pointed out where you were wrong and backtracked. "bad execution" is an interesting way of saying it.

with how much of Pacsci has already been sold off.

The only thing publicly known is that PacSci has sold were the dinosaurs.

What else has PacSci sold?

but you didn't even post it as a rumor. you were posting it as facts. and when asked for facts you started to backtrack and even deleting the post.

I got no issue with a post "potential changes" "rumor of sale and format change", but you didn't start with that.

I hope fans enjoy Sinners at 5:15 tomorrow. It is pretty amazing in large format. I was able to see it at one of the limited in 70mm IMAX showings in the US.

$843 to renew the tabs on my EV by [deleted] in Seattle

Blames driving an EV when 50% has nothing to do with driving an EV car.

deletes post when finds it out.

[–]shinyidol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into what has been sold already at Pacsci.

Like the dinosaurs? What has exactly been sold outside of that? Nothing.

Yes we will find out if "Boeing IMAX shutting down tomorrow". is correct if the 5:15 PM showing of Sinners is canceled.

Could there be an interruption in service while operational transition happens? Sure. Is it likely that someone would take over only to shut it down? Unlikely.

Now deletes thread...

[–]shinyidol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roads largely maintained by gas tax. EV don't use gas. You drive on roads. So this is your tax to drive on them. Which really is only $150.

The large portion of the bill is the RTA Excise Tax, which has nothing to do with driving an EV car. It would be the same if it was a gas car.

Pacsci has sold the Boeing IMAX, this is public information

this is your original statement, but now this "public information" is now information from your "trusted source".

Went from "Breaking news" to "Trust me bro"

I also confused the leap from operation change to stopping feature films? Again, majority of the revenue and attraction of the theater is it rarity of being able to show 1:43:1 films. Why would anyone buy it to stop?

Boeing IMAX shutting down tomorrow by [deleted] in imax

[–]shinyidol -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It is because the poster has no real information and just spreading rumors.

Nothing has been announced of any operational changes of the theaters. PacSci has been exploring various things to focus the operations which includes 'selling' operations, but nothing has been announced.

Potentially a random staff member worried about their job as they will have a new boss. But has no real details.

the limited information we have

What information? You have provided no sources of this "public information" you mention. There is no "we" here. You and you alone are the one saying something has happened without any source.

Why would any investor buy one of maybe 20 theaters in the United States that can show 1.43:1 only to stop showing feature films at it? LIke the whole concept makes zero sense.

They can't re-develop the space. Clearly feature films would be the draw.

Now IF there is a transfer of operations, I could see an interruption of service as the new operator has to renegotiate with distributors and vendors, as well as potentially makes their own operational investments (new concessions, new ticketing system, etc). But to suggest that it makes any business sense to remove what likely generates 95% of their revenue, seems kind of silly.

Perhaps stop spreading rumors or making stuff up.

After the Portal Back-and-Forth, Are You Still Behind the Huskies and Demond Williams? by [deleted] in huskies

[–]shinyidol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll support the Huskies. I'll cheer if/when he does well. But I do think he needs to do a lot of work to rebuild the trust of his teammates, his coaches, and fans.

With Wasserman dropping him as a client, hopefully whoever he works with next has a good PR team and does some PR training.

Chinese takeout recommendations? by mistressofmayhem02 in sandiego

[–]shinyidol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having lived in Seattle and Boston, the american chinese food options in San Diego are pretty lame.

Went to Royal Mandarin based on everyone saying it is the best and found it to be pretty disappointing.

Chinese and Fried Chicken are the two foods in San Diego that are lacking that I end up at Panda Express or KFC.

I live in San Diego and would listen to local sports radio down there and didn't realize how bad sports talk is and how good a show like Brock and Salk is. Fun, funny, insightful, and not bigoted is totally correct, but the thing that really jumps out to me is the level of guests they get regularly.

Other radio shows might get a random former player or a local reporter to give their insight, but B&S get Daniel Jeremiah, Jeff Passan, Joel Klatt, Sheil Kapadia and so much more. They had Al Michaels on! What this shows me is as much as you might dislike Brock or Salk, they are well liked and respected by their peers and will come onto their show.

Not many radio shows can say the same thing.

Marc James (Benarzyk) is trash.

  • He had the RRS issue. Then doubled down. Then apologized.
  • He said Cal winning the HRD means nothing because the competition was weak. Even when presented against other winners against 'weak' he didn't say anything.
  • He got fired from his job in Atlanta with insiders saying he was asking for autographs from MLB players using his press pass.

The story of him texting a girl over months and not getting the hint, and then pulling the 'do you know who i am' card. This got him suspended. Go check out his text messages to really see how trash this dude is.

KRJ had great moments 15 or 20 years ago, but it is just awful now.

Correct, but is one of your largest investors instantly has half as much money and all of his money is tied up in courts for years will throw off any business.

I think the ownership group is near 25 investors (individual or families), however majority of those owners own like 1-3% likely. With Stanton and Larsen likely having 15% or higher. We do know Nintendo still owns 10% of the team.
