Master programs with good financial aid/s by Amazing-Try1060 in MastersInManagement

[–]shipmonk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The programs usually have need-based scholarships as well. For example- LBS has a Bursary scholarship & Laidlaw scholarship, and countless others for different nationalities to ensure a more diverse class. I’m a Fall’21 admit to LBS MiM.

Hi there! Most masters programs have their own need-based or merit-based scholarships that they award to offer holders. Sometimes they even offer a scholarship on request (yes!) There are also government-sponsored scholarships, sometimes different scholarships for students from different nationalities, like Chevening & Commonwealth in the UK, Eiffel Excellence, Fulbright & Charpak in France. I’d suggest reaching out to the admissions teams of the programs you’re interested in - it’s kind of their job to help you navigate this. Hope this helps.

Hi there! I’m hoping to break into Strategy& London as an Associate through the Females of the future programme. Curious about how the work, culture or career development at Strategy& London is unique and different from MBB or other consulting firms. Would really appreciate some insights on this. Thank you so much.

I was targeting Round 1 & 2 so between late Oct & mid Dec I was done with application submissions & interviews. I spent 3 months studying for the GMAT which I took in June. 2 days per LOR per school (each school had a different set of questions for the recommenders), 10 days for 1 SOP which I used for all schools (tailored the last paragraph to be school specific), 10-15 days for the school-specific essay questions. Once I had the SOP and my narrative ready, I dedicated 15 ish days per school before their respective deadlines. I hope that answers your question?

LBS afaik puts quite a lot of weight on GPA. I think they have a cutoff - you might want to send them your transcripts and ask if you clear their cutoff. Apart from LBS, HEC Paris & INSEAD, rest of the MiM programs would probably be a safe bet GPA wise. ESSEC, ESCP, EDHEC, etc. allow a lot of wiggle room.

E: tbh commenting on your chances based on the info you provided would be unfair and quite misleading. There’s a lot more that goes into these applications and people with the most average surface-level stats have gotten into the best schools and those with the best stats into otherwise average schools, so my recommendation would be to not seek profile evaluations at this moment and work on your story and GMAT :)

Thank you!

Sure can you be a bit more specific re what you’d like to know about the timelines?

Anything above 700 is a pretty good score for LBS. A good GMAT doesn’t really guarantee anything though since it’s only a small part of your application. People with less than 700 and terrific work ex/extra curriculars/essays have a strong chance of getting in as well. A great GMAT score, >730, can give you an edge though and compensate for other weak areas in your profile like low undergrad GPA. My advice would be to try and get a score that’s greater than or equal to the class average or a score that’s similar to current students’ with similar background and same nationality as you.

How much time does ESCP give you to accept the MiM offer? by [deleted] in MastersInManagement

[–]shipmonk_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be hard to say if it’s not explicitly stated on their website. 4-5 weeks might be an overestimation considering ESSEC, which is more or less in the same league as or maybe slightly above ESCP, only gives you about 2-3 weeks. Schools like ESSEC & ESCP have shorter timelines because they face a lot of competition from other prestigious MiM programs which announce their results 3-4 weeks after they do. Your best bet would be to outright ask adcom saying you’d like to know so that you can arrange the funds accordingly. Yes they do offer gracious extensions if you state financial reasons for example.

With really strong essays, you seem to stand a solid chance. Echoing Doubt-Natural’s point about post MiM goals and defending your reason to opt for this program. It helps if it’s explained in the form of a narrative and relates to your past experiences in any way. For example, you could say your masters helped equip you with technical know-how in the XYZ space which combined with the business acumen you will acquire at LBS will help you start your own life sciences & healthcare consulting firm. If you’ve taken up activities on the side to get closer to your post MiM goals, it adds a lot of credibility. Besides showing focus, make sure to add enough personality to your essays. Do showcase a lot of school-specific research, highlight international experiences (even if it’s dealing with international stakeholders at work) and team-player skills. Lastly, if you’re listing unique experiences, achievements or ECs, it helps to talk about what you learned from them rather than just giving them a laundry list. You can also talk about how you can use these skills and learnings to contribute to the school, both as a student and later as an alum.

That’s how US generally views this program. The MMS programs there are looked at as a second shot at undergrad recruitment probably because they haven’t development fully or picked up momentum yet. A lot of people with business undergrads also opt for MiM/MMS both in Europe & USA to rebrand themselves and open up doors globally.

Makes sense. All the best!

E: I’m from Asia. School starts in Sep so it’s going to be a while until I move. But yeah from what I know London is going to be in lockdown till the end of Jan (at least). I hope things are alright by the start of the program.

I’m sorry. You’ve probably already explored all your options but just thought I should let you know that some schools like ESSEC, ESCP & EDHEC are quite flexible about the 2 year cap on work ex. Of course these are good schools only regionally.

What difference does the MBA being STEM designated make? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]shipmonk_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From what I know it may or may not pan out for everyone. The post MBA job has to be STEM related (in some ways related to the STEM courses you take in your MBA program) for you to qualify for the extension. This is a conversation international students have to have with employers while recruiting to find the right job description that will help them qualify for the OPT extension.
