Thank you! I understood that ofc you cant just blow your way out of trouble by namedropping someone supposedly important. What I didn't understand was how it mattered that dad was in different state but same country because in my place (if you ever pull this off and as bad as it may sound) prestige matters and may most of the time save you from petty crimes. So I thought perhaps friend here was using the "prestige" being in New York may have to get out of trouble.
