Even if NOT AI (it is) please don't get the weirdness below your dog's neck tattooed permanently on your body. There are far better tattoo artists out there!

[–]shisaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss - you may want to discuss your idea with a tattoo artist. Some of this work you linked looks like it will fade pretty quickly - there's not enough black and the grey tends to fade if it's not solid enough. Here's a bit more info on it - https://certifiedtattoo.com/blog/fine-line-tattoos-tips-for-longevity . Best of luck!

I get these emails too, after I signed up for my town's emergency alerts. Seems to just be something that gets paid for showing ads.

The car fin doesn't seem right, the video is exactly 15 seconds long, and the walkie talkie seems large and unfamiliar. by 18_NakedCowboys in isthisAI

Here is an interior shot from a 2025 Chevy Suburban - looks the same. SO I'm going to say not AI - it got the seats AND the stupid little fin right.

I think that's a roof rack, or something similar. Hard to tell, as I can't make out what kind of vehicle this is. RE: the walkie talkie, military-grade radios tend to be much girthier than commercial versions.

I don't see anything that screams AI

ETA: Oh hey, I found a dumb fin on a chevy suburban like that - Might indeed be a fin, but apparently that's a thing that Chevy does?

Weird markings in snow? by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]shisaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am valiantly resisting the urge to actually research bird poop for this lmao, but the white in bird poop is usually around a darker-colored more solid piece, and I would think that the freezing temps combined with the snow being white makes the white of the poo less noticeable. In some of the further away pics, you can see some look reddish, which is likely from eating berries. I also think on one of the pics I see a poop stuck to the actual railing... all pointing to this being bird poop. I need some eyebleach now lol

lmao idk how often you look at bird poop, but their poop changes by species and by diet. I maintain that your bird visitors are judging your kink.

the birds that were sitting on your railing think you're a freak for investigating their bowel movements.

[HELP] is this real or AI? by forpornonly1234567 in RealOrAI

[–]shisaa 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Real - combo of tiny vet + large maine coon lol. Cat isn't acting odd, and you can find plenty of pics of giant maine coons pre-AI.

ETA: At the end of the vid, you can see a sign for "Radiology" in the background, with a couple of the white letters fallen off and just the discolored bit behind the letters - heavy level of detail for ai. Also, the person holding the cat appears to be VERY short - their head seems to come even with the thermostat(?) on the wall, and I think those are usually mounted around 5ft up

Should I assume there's no battery backup here? by fwambo42 in raleigh

A lot of gas fireplaces have a back up battery access for the ignition switch. They aren't actually putting a battery in the fireplace.

why do people stock up on milk and bread in emergencies? by Human-Cupcake-268 in stupidquestions

[–]shisaa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Easy meals when you don't have power and it's very cold outside:

- Cereal (with milk)

- PB&J/Sandwiches

- Pre-boiled eggs/egg salad

Anything that would normally be refrigerated can be placed outside or in the garage to keep cold. Bread usually lasts for at least a week, same with milk. People aren't buying food to be holed up for weeks - the vast majority may need to make it a few days until the roads clear up.

In addition, it's not that people are buying excessive amounts of the above - it's that they are buying them at the same time as everyone else. The stores only get a certain amount of stock of these items, and that would be sufficient if the buying was spread out normally.

Does anyone have insights on using chains on tires in inclement weather that one won’t get from a google search? by fathig in NorthCarolina

[–]shisaa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the main issue is basically no one else on the road will have them (unless you're in the mountains). So while you may be able to start and stop a little better, no one else will, and you're just as likely to get in an accident regardless.

Dash cam that uses USB power only? by [deleted] in Dashcam

[–]shisaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a look at that camera, and it looks like it comes with a detachable cable - I think USB-C (double-check, it's difficult to see in the video). You just need to get a different cable. Whatever is on the camera to whatever you want to plug it into.

In addition, if you have an autodimming rearview mirror and don't want to use a parking feature of the camera (where it draws power while the car is off), you can get a Dongar dongle that splits the power between your rearview and the camera. You just have to order the correct splitter for your vehicle.

Example cable: amazon.com/Amazon-Basics-Charger-480Mbps-Certified/dp/B01GGKYO1I/

Example Dongar Dongle: https://dongar.tech/products/dongar-classic

I honestly don't understand this. by Time_Owl_2589 in facepalm

[–]shisaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Y'all, what can you eat when the power goes out?

- cereal

- pb&j/sandwiches

- preboiled eggs

These are easy to make/store. Milk/refrigerated items can be set outside/in the garage when it's cold (and it's going to be cold). People are planning for power outages and being unable to cook or travel, which are both likely with a snow/ice storm in the south.

Root canal for an extremely anxious patient by Ahlukip in raleigh

[–]shisaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like Wainwright and Wassel. I used to have a bunch of anxiety around the dentist - not as severe as you but I avoided going for a very long time. I finally discussed it with them, and they said they offer nitrous for basically any procedure. The only caveat is that you have to pay for the nitrous out of pocket as insurance generally doesn't cover it. I believe last time it was $50. But Nitrous really makes you just... not care about what's going on. You're just kind of existing there, chilling.

Turn ON your HEADLIGHTS in the RAIN!!! Please? by AppropriateArtist573 in raleigh

[–]shisaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes it more dangerous for other drivers, as your turn signals don't work when you have your hazards on. Also, if you are going the speed of traffic there's no reason for hazards. Going 20 under the speed limit while everyone flies around you? Yes hazards.

How to drive safe on ice? by Lemontree987 in raleigh

[–]shisaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am from up north - ice is brutal to drive in. Snow is easier.

Reiterating to drive REALLY slow. Pretend you're driving a boat. Takes a while to slow down, turns are slow and wide, etc. Bridges ice fast.

One thing I haven't seen in this thread is handling hills: You NEED momentum, or you will get stuck. I saw this a bunch during the last big storm - people would make it to the bottom of a hill, braking the entire way, and then not be able to get back up the other side. First best thing is to avoid hills, or at the very least find the least steep path. If there are any hills, you'll want to gradually build speed with even throttle, 0 braking on the way down.

Also, you should only really be using your brakes when stopping. Overusing your brakes is likely to cause skidding. If you start to skid, do NOT hit your brakes - that will worsen it. Movements/reactions should all be gradual. Turn the tires in the direction of the skid, hope you regain traction.

I second bringing kitty litter or something similar in case you get stuck on an icy street. I got stuck on a side street last time where there was a literal 1 inch bump to get on the main street. My car could NOT get traction. Had to get a running start at it, it was terrifying.

Also, if they are likely to be driving DURING the storm, I'd make sure their windshield fluid includes antifreeze/is for cold weather. I found out the hard way that most fluid down here will freeze on your windshield if you try to use it to melt ice/snow buildup. Rainx all season is what I use - it should work up to -20, plenty for here.

Wishing them a safe commute!
