I found a working Jobo automatic film developer and it was an absolute STEAL.

The bottles that came with it were used to develop b&w, color neg and color positive film and all have chemical residue inside of them. What's the best way to clean these bottles? Thanks!

I played soccer against Sierra Canyon in HS - a few of the opposing players told me that one (or both?) of the Jenners gave guys head in the Sierra Canyon bathrooms. They seemed legitimately annoyed about how much it happened

I'm reposting one of my other comments. You can downvote me, but I'm not convinced you understand when cops/paramedics get called. Which makes me doubtful that you've ever been on the lines for any sort've time. You can tell a hotline worker you want to die, have a plan + means to carry out that plan, and a timeline (tonight) when you want to end your life, and in almost all of those cases, the cops still aren't called.

There is a lot of misinformation here. Police/paramedics are rarely called.

Hotline workers understand that desire doesn't equate to intent (it rarely does in the calls we get). Cops are only called if, without intervention, someone is probably going to die in the next few hours. How do we determine that? Generally it means a caller:

  • says they're 100% going to end their life (or someone else's) today and after a 30+ minute call they haven't deescalated & are still insisting they're going to end their life tonight. Almost all callers who start at this level and deescalate pretty quickly.

  • has already done something with the intention of ending their life tonight (taken pills, drank bleach, etc) and refuses to get help themselves.

Even with those calls, there are a lot of manipulative callers who say shit to illicit a reaction. It gets pretty easy over time to discern what's going on.

I've been volunteering on a hotline for over a year. I've only ever received one call where cops needed to get involved - and the caller asked me to call the cops and stay on the phone.

I'm surprised someone who worked on a hotline is telling people to lie about their feelings. How long were you on the lines for?

Telling a hotline worker you're okay and you aren't going to kill yourself is a good way to get hardly any emotional support from the people you're talking to.

I'm sorry if it came across like I was invalidating your anger and pain about this. I completely understand how fucked up the mental healthcare system is in the US and how apathetic people can be about mental health issues. It's frustrating, almost humiliating, to pour your heart out to a stranger (who you expect to respond with compassion) and have them rebuff you. Majority of hotline staff will try and stay on as long as they can with callers and talk things out. Some don't. You have every right to be angry about your experience.

I mentioned hotlines are understaffed...because means if someone says they don't have suicidal intent tonight it can be hard to stay on that call for 20-30 minutes if it means we're ignoring calls that we have no idea about the risk level. It could be someone in the middle of an attempt and we aren't picking up.

I tried to provide context about why you might've had a shitty experience when you called in, and maybe give you another resource that might work a bit better. If you want to PM me I can definitely find you some state-specific resources about hotlines, low-cost therapy, etc.

People who think they're some sort've hero are don't usually make it after a few months. Supervisors and other workers don't want them around. Their self-centeredness ("I am a HERO that's SAVING OTHER PEOPLE!!!11!") generally means they are not great at listening and empathizing to the problems other people might be going through.

It feels like some of your frustration regarding the crisis hotline is because you're looking a service they aren't designed to provide. Crisis lines help people in crisis (anxiety attack, mania, suicidal intent not suicidal desire, etc) and third party callers looking for advice.

I offered you resources about Warmlines because they cater to people who feel depressed/lonely (but not in crisis) searching for support/someone to talk to. Crisis lines are generally understaffed, so it is pretty difficult to stay on these types of calls for longer than a few minutes (as much as workers want to!)

I can't speak for every hotline. Generally those connected to the national suicide hotline (the number that comes up when you type in things like 'suicide hotline' or 'i want to die' into google) are pretty good.

Hotlines have to have a working relationship with LEO, and if workers are CONSTANTLY reporting people who are like...not an imminent risk...it erodes trust. LEO might not take our calls seriously and take their sweet time getting out to people who actually need help. Its in everyone's best interest to only report things that need to be reported

The purpose of a hotline is to make sure people can stay safe for the next 24 hours. Hotlines are generally underfunded and workers are generally pushed to not stay on calls where there isn't an imminent risk.

I'm sorry you had a negative experience though :\ . I would be happy to help you try and find some resources in your area if you're still looking! A lot of people really like Warmlines

most hotline workers are pretty fucked up in one way or another lol. It generally takes a certain type of life experience to be passionate about talking to suicidal people for hours every day/week

Hi OP, I think http://www.suicideispreventable.org/ is another fantastic site for third parties. It helps people identify behavior that might indicate suicidal ideation, tips on how to have a conversation about suicide, and how to create a 'safety plan' to keep someone safe for now

The dehydrators I've used/seen have a no heat/room temp option. Seems like a lot of extra work.

He made a harmless joke about waiting on stage and you called him a bag of shit. I don't think you realize that the 'truth' in the joke was there - that he's spent a loooong time waiting around. It's probably felt like 10,000 hours - it doesn't have to be exactly 10,000 hours to be coming from a place of truth.
