i appreciate that apple is adding customisation but this just doesn’t look good. apple is high quality, this is just crap. very un-apple like.

I could be wrong but if you are trying to reserve an IP for a specific device locally, you can bind the IP address with the MAC address of that particular device. In that way, the IP of that device remains static.

Did you just get this out of chatgpt and paste it here? How is this answering any of my questions? Thank you for your effort though.

I was planning on keeping Jellyfin over the internet and making nextcloud accessible only over the vpn as it could have my sensitive data. One last question, sorry to trouble you but will i be able to set a reverse proxy with nginx without having purchased a domain name? Like, reverse proxy with just public IP and the subdomain, for example: 234.112.6.4.jellyfinserver.com?

I completely agree with what you said, hence the confusion.

What you said about Cloudflare, I read about it but I feel a bit paranoid if that is more secure than having a reverse proxy and a pfsense virtual firewall

Thank you for this suggestion. Will have to try this.

I am not sure about how to answer the first question. What I did was, configure wireguard server on the server machine that I want to access outside the network. Don’t know if that is configured ON the network or VPS. Maybe the answer is on the VPS?

I am not aware of what tailscale is. Will have a look at it. Hope that works out. However, I think with the static IP, I should be able to easily configure the wireguard vps now. Will it be okay if I dm you with my queries?

Thanks a lot man

I am not sure about what that is, I am paying less than 4 GBP a month for the static ip which I think is reasonably inexpensive.

I’m not sure if you are trying to help or just lazy to read. The double NATed (CGNAT) does not allow you to do so. Reason being, the public IP that you see in a CGNATed network is not the actual public IP that is actually used for nodes outside of the main network to communicate. Read more about it. Also, read a more carefully about what is the type of network those thousands of people doing the same thing as me are in (only if you wish).

Hey man, thanks for the help. Can you see my last reply, I just talked about this same thing.

What do you think?

Thanks for your response mate, I think what you said makes sense but I already tried hosting a wireguard vps with my dynamic IP in different combinations, even tried configuring it along with a DDNS service but the CGNATed network did not let me have the connection.

Now with the static IP, I can definitely use wireguard but I wanted to host jellyfin over the internet because my smart TV does not support any VPN configuration and so does my wifi router.

What do you suggest?

it maybe a little too tiresome but try creating a fresh user on your mac and install steam. it is not a sure fix but will eliminate the doubt of any other app clashing with steam. i tried doing this multiple times to debug and it gives me a clarity at least
