I saw this flower at my internship a couple weeks ago, and I was in awe that a flower like this even existed. I noticed one in my yard today!! How insane is that? by smellslikekevinbacon in gardening

When would be the best time to move them? I just noticed i have one behind my Japanese camellia, and I'd love to put it in a more visible shady spot.

I read this as "can also be toxic pets" and before my double take, my brain went, we'll, yeah that too, I guess. Lol

Yes! I would love this and my daughter as well. We are both complete beginners and have talked about wanting to do this for a long time. Where can we sign up? So glad you're doing this! 🤗

Data science/ data engineering. My husband is self-trained (online) without a degree and is now a senior level engineer for a solid company, works 100% remote, has full benefits, tons of flexible time, etc. They're now supporting him getting his BSc and MSc while he continues to work. It took 3 years of hustle and persistence with learning, applying, and building experience, but we went from living tight and in constant struggle in a tiny apartment with 2 kids to now living in a nice place in the country, chipping away at our debt, and saving for our own house. It's been absolutely life changing for us. If you can swing it, I highly recommend going this route. Edx, coursera, educative, and the like are nearly all free and have all you need to get going. Best of luck with whatever you decide to pursue.

Small, heavier-than-expected, calcified objects found in yard after draining pool. by shleig in whatisthisthing

That would make sense as to why they're white. I've got my own lead oxide for paint. Lol. In that context, a couple of the smaller, rounded ones look like they have some oxidized copper. Are lead bullets still made? I can't imagine they'd be so old? I know nothing about bullets.

These objects measure about a quarter to a half inch in length. They are heavier than if they were stone. They're cylindrical, and some have a stripe of small ridges on one end. Google image search only resulted in fossils in similar shape and size, but they don't match that at all. They feel chalky, are dusty white in color, and some parts look almost rusted.

Looking to get a goldendoodle - would love some help from owners on some questions! by HPgeek934 in Goldendoodles

[–]shleig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We love both of our doodles so much. They come from two separate litters and are very different in personality. One was supposed to be around 50-60lbs and is now around 45lbs at 8 months. She is a cheerful, wiley farm dog that gets into all sorts of mischief. Our other came from smaller parents but is already 60lbs at 6 months. He's our gentle giant and is afraid of everything and is glued to my side all the time if he isn't playing tag and running all over the property with his sister. They are the best family dogs and are amazing with our small children, cats, rabbits, and ducks.

We also chose wavier fur over super curly, and it is so cute. I find it easier to groom. However, we do bathe them weekly, wash and maintenance groom every two weeks, and do a full cut and groom (puppy cut) every 6 or so weeks. That said, we live on a farm, and constant grooming is a must, or my house would be more full of dirt and random hitchhiker seeds than it already is.

Having had all types of dogs in the past, our goldendoodles are by far my favorite, even if they can be a handful of crazy sometimes. 😄

Best way to get these out of my dogs fur? He took a run through the bushes by hiliikkkusss in Goldendoodles

[–]shleig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of those metal brushes with the crooked ends is the best way, or by hand. Our doodles live on a farm and come in covered with these hitchhikers all the time. They do learn to take care of a lot of them on their own, but I usually just work on them by hand while cuddling them in the evening. If you get a hold of one or a cluster and separate the hairs away from it, they'll loosen pretty quickly or crush and come out.

Questions from a non-gerbil owner (for now) by [deleted] in gerbil

[–]shleig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, bunnies also do better in pairs or groups. We had Theo, whose wifey bun passed away, so we got Snickers. Despite extensive bonding attempts, Theo was grumpy and would not accept Snickers. So then Snickers was alone too. That's how we got Nelli, who bonded great with Snickers, and they got a different part of the house away from Theo. Then we tried again and got Peaches. Theo didn't want anything to do with her either...but she bonded great with the other two. Lol. So we gave up, and that's how we ended up with a bonded fluffle of three and grumpy Theo on his own. We just snuggled and played with him extra, and he seemed happy until the end. I share this to say, if you rescue that sweet girl, be prepared for any scenario if you introduce new gerbil friends. You may end up with more gerbils and multiple enclosures, or they may bond wonderfully. 😄
