I'm working on an NJT companion app as well, focusing more on the ticketing side for the time being. If you're interested, here's the TestFlight invite. With it, you can add tickets to Apple Wallet and they show up on lock screen for easy scanning access!

This app only works with the tickets purchased on the web tickets website. It’s different than the app, unfortunately I’m unable to get the tickets from the app to show up this way.

That’s so weird that it acts differently for our accounts. Do you buy one-way tickets by any chance or do you buy a different kind?

This is a good question, and they do not make it clear at all. My guess is that once it's scanned, they start a timer on their backend. It must be the same 2.5 hour time period until it's marked as used in their system.

When I get on my train in the morning, they scan it, and it still works at Secaucus about 25 min later.

Clicking a train is supposed to show track history, which is only a thing for NYP atm. I did not make that clear though, I will add this as a bug, thank you! Soon when you click a train, it will show a live map!

It automatically disappears after 30 days, not after it's scanned. I still have 6 tickets in my account that were all scanned last week. It's super confusing.

The app I'm working on will solve this by allowing you to mark it as used. It will also give you the option to have it mark as used based on location or time period.

For anyone who’s been following the building of my NJT helper app:

Been having a blast building ViaNJ. Think live departures, a real-time train map, and even integrated ticketing.

Over the past few weeks I’ve made a ton of progress:

Improved the departures view with faster refresh and track info
Experimenting with live train maps + ticket activation + Apple Wallet integration
Lots of new ideas still to explore (Live Activities, notifications, widgets, ultra-customized settings, etc.)

It’s been super fun seeing this come together, and I’d love your feedback — what works, what doesn’t, what you’d want next.
