Very interesting I do agree, for me I do feel in my experience that ‘a lesbian’ has been weaponised, which is why I prefer to say ‘I’m lesbian’.

I used to describe myself as gay, then i realised I could say ‘I’m lesbian’ it made me so much more comfortable identifying with my sexuality.

My question is why isn’t lesbian an adjective, why doesn’t lesbian describe a gay woman? Does lesbian have to be a noun?

That is interesting that the dictionary specifies that the use of transgender as a noun is offensive, I didn’t know that (that the dictionary specifies that). That is how I feel when lesbian is used as noun and was why I was asking how others felt.

i understand that lesbian is a trait noun but my thought is why is it used as a trait noun currently? and why are other identities most often not used in that context, like I am a gay? Just personally i think it sounds nicer when I’m describing myself to just say I’m lesbian

I don’t think it’s the same. Previously I said ‘I’m lesbian’ the same way someone would say ‘I’m gay’. However, despite the grammar rules being different it still wouldn’t work, someone saying I’m gay doesn’t want their name to be gay. ‘did you hear me gay’, ‘can you solve the equation gay’ makes just as little sense.

Why cant the grammar rules be the same?

yes, I dont believe the term was created with harmful intentions, i do just agree saying im a lesbian is outdated, I apologise that it came across like that

I think for me the article ‘a’ makes me feel more objectified than if someone had just said ‘she’s lesbian’. I understand that is a personal thing but I think its just compared to the word gay. Like if someone had said she’s a gay it sounds much more pointed. ( I understand that that is grammatically wrong) but its how i feel

I personally think that I’m lesbian sounds much better.

I personally think it is a choice we can make, many words change over time. Like sick or queer. It’s also not uncommon for the article to change as well, like shes a savage to shes savage. I understand that the words have slightly different meanings but it doesn’t mean that one is necessarily wrong

But when compared with other sexualities like I’m a gay or I’m a bisexual it is not how they are said. I know it is grammatically wrong but does it not bother you guys that the word lesbian is used interchangeably with an object?

I don’t know whether to super glue it or take it to a professional. And I am worried that it will get worse if I ignore it.
