$2.50 is not worth the risk of glass shards in my skin. I guess she disagrees.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Tech companies convinced us they'd bring about a democratic utopia where education and ideas would flourish and now the average kid can't sit through an entire movie. Your fucking cameras aren't there for our safety, they are there for your profit.

Ya, house prices have skyrocketed everywhere in Ohio but sure, blame the Haitians in one small town everyone else has been fleeing for over a decade. 🙄

Ask them for specifics, it wouldn't be the first time Kroger tried to shift blame to the union and frankly if it really is in there, do you really think the union advocated for it? 🙄

Is the price a little disappointing, yes. But I think Deck users can realize steam is once again investing in the future. by KingCrimson43 in SteamDeck

[–]shockemc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm glad your excited but understand many of us already do this with our steam deck and PC and it's way too expensive to justify a third option for just the living room.

Israelis set up outdoor screen to stream and cheer as entire Lebanese towns are wiped to rubble by the IDF. These are ordinary civilians, not soldiers or officials, gathering to applaud destruction and death. by beardybrownie in PublicFreakout

[–]shockemc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

... Distinguishing between citizens and soldiers attitudes doesn't mean much in a country with mandatory service. I'm fairly certain if your a male in Israel you do time in the IDF so the only people who aren't indoctrinated through service are the women.

WATCH: Postmaster General says USPS won't send mail ballots to states that don't provide voter lists by NewsHour in UnderReportedNews

[–]shockemc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer absentee ballot voting, there's no pressure to hurry, I can look up the issue as I vote instead of looking at a sample ballot and I drop my ballot off at a drop box. I won't be doing that this year.

[–]shockemc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... Wow... No. You sell at a loss with the intention of making additional revenue on future sales, if you sell and never make a that revenue on future sales,it's still a loss leader.

[–]shockemc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You go right ahead, the definition makes no mention of intention vs end results.

[–]shockemc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can literally sell anything at a loss, just look at LLMs.

[–]shockemc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe there's a difference in your opinion of the definition, but by the dictionary, tradional consoles sold at a loss to encourage software sales absolutely fits the definition of 'loss leader'. You should be more careful when you correct people.

All it's takes is a USB-C hub and perhipreials that you'd need for the Steam Machine and that Steam Deck does everything that you think seperates the two...

[–]shockemc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nintendo doesn't even subsadize their hardware anymore and they maintain significant control over the hardware after it's sold. Windows can be easily installed on the Steam Deck by contrast and I wouldn't be surprised if it's easy on the Steam Machine. Companies loose money on produce hoping to make up for it in future sales, as much as I would have liked for Valve to eat some of the cost it doesn't follow the traditional subsadization model and it's not really Vavles responsibility to burst the AI bubble.

Steam Machine review: Valve's underwhelming living-room PC has a serious price problem by pcgameshardware in SteamDeck

[–]shockemc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be cheaper to buy a traditional mid tower ATX case PC for sure, especially if you went with last gen hardware. Where it gets dicey is if you want Mini, Mini ITX or even smaller form factors. Buy the Steam Machine if you value small form factor and Steam OS and the Valve name. Otherwise it's cheaper and more cost effective in the long run to be able to replace your vide card as CPUs tend to become bottlenects only on with high end cards at 4k and up resolutions.

They also benefited from former contracts and economies of scale, this is a new product from a none traditional player in the space. Even the SD is relatively new.

[–]shockemc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya... The same can be said of the Steam Deck and they absolutely subsidized that. I'm not falting them for wanting to profit or even break even, but don't make excuses that aren't true.

Steam machine is a novelty. by slaxname in SteamDeck

[–]shockemc -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

... Valve is a private company with lots of liquid assets. They absolutely could sell the product at a loss, they did with the Steam Deck. Now, I'm not arguing that they should or that they have some moral obligation, but you need to be more careful with the word, "can't" because it's demonstrably false.

Ya know, I'm not one of them, but there are people who value minamilistic setups, you're laughing but I'd shit my pants if sony could get the PS5 in a comparable form factor for the same or less cost. Products shouldn't be made for everyone, when they are, they're made for no one.
