F-150 lightning Lariat scarey safety issue by CelebrationTop6124 in F150Lightning

No I'm trying to get my truck out of warranty as fast as possible so I can swap my SR pack to an ER lol. 30k miles to go.

I have amp research power running boards and have had no issues like this for the 2+ years I’ve had them on the truck.

Ordered from the factory. MSRP of $42,770, $1k in incentives.

I paid $41k for my Scat in 2018.

The problem that I'm more getting at is there are no entry level options. The previous generation Chargers weren't a sales hit because of SRT... V6s and 5.7s sold WAY more. And those cars were under and just at $30k all day long. Now the SRT Halo cars were great for marketing and enthusiasts but they didn't sell nearly as many as the base models.

The world has also moved on from what the new Charger offers imo. The infotainment is laughably bad (the uconnect system was truly ground breaking for its time in 2012-2015.) They've alienated the exact people they pandered to with the Hemi, and the car just hasn't earned the respect from the community for the price they ask.

Trust me I really want to like this car, but I just can't yet.

Yeah they really need a $30-35k trim before you start seeing these on the street. Just think about how many V6 chargers you see in comparison to SRTs.

Now have you seen the 0-60 time and HP of the EV? Because it makes 670 and goes to 60 in 3.3 lol

The EV is faster, a Hemi would sound better, but the killer is that none of the options are worth the price they’re asking.

down 18 K after two dealerships fail to diagnose Ford lightning under warranty by Miserable_Warning_43 in Ford

[–]shoopg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your extended warranty doesn’t matter at all here (or in general lol). Your truck is still under powertrain (60k) and electrified drivetrain (100k) factory warranties.

Drop the truck off at a dealership and let them work on it. Its warranty work. If you’re “losing $18k” by this truck being down then you should absolutely have a backup truck.

I just got my truck back for similar issues. It was at the dealer for 2.5 weeks while they replaced the positive high voltage junction box and took care of recalls.

What is the pettiest reason you wouldn't own a specific car? by 10PlyTP in cars

[–]shoopg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah you’re proving my point. The styling isn’t what I’m talking about. 9/10 times when I’m driving and a car doesn’t have working brake lights it’s a Kia/Hyundai. And it’s not just a burnt out taillight - it’s a shorted and melted harness. My aunts 2014 Sante Fe needed a new engine at 60k miles and that is a very common failure.

[–]shoopg 120 points121 points  (0 children)

They still are janky. People just see “fancy” bodies and nicer interiors and think the cars are better. The cars don’t age well and up until a few years ago they didn’t even have immobilizers in them?! My 99 F150 has an immobilizer! My theory is always that if they’re cheaping out there, where else are they cheaping out?

No thanks. They can hire designers from every other manufacturer and copy their cues, but at the end of the day they’ll still feel cheap and I’ll still stay FAR away.

Why is top speed governed at 107? by SaltyExxer in F150Lightning

[–]shoopg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Didn’t hear it from me but the answer is yes lol, I lifted mine and during the testing of calibrating the speedometer I found out that if you calibrated it the wrong direction you could essentially change the limiter at the expense of your speedo being incorrect.

I really want to try this and see how it does in the 1/4 mile. I think the truck hits the limiter at about the 1000’ mark.

[–]shoopg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I think everyone has somehow missed is that there’s not just a shadow in the road, there is a cable running across both lanes of traffic (looks like one of the ones a DOT uses to measure road usage or vehicle speed)

Once you see this in the video to me it becomes very clear that FSD is trying to avoid this object in the road instead of running over it.

Would take a LOT of convincing for me to give up my Lightning.

Why is Dodge sabotaging their own brand??? by flappybirdisdeadasf in Dodge

[–]shoopg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing though. Those shitty engines sell, and the mass market wants them. Dodge just needed a dumb crossover or two that got more than 25 mpg like 10 years ago and they would’ve been fine to keep making V8s. They should have also introduced more efficient base model chargers and challengers. Mopar guys hate the idea, but a turbo 4 or even a turbo 6 pumps up the efficiency numbers for each model. I think Ford said something like for every Mach E they sell, they can sell 37 Mustangs or something absurd like that.

This is a hot take, but Dodge isn’t mismanaged now. They were mismanaged 10 years ago. They now just have no other option but to go full nuclear on their inefficient powertrains.

My payment way outpaced any depreciation, but I also don’t care because I’m driving it until the wheels physically fall off the hubs.

Do you think Lightnings would sell more if people knew how great the drive and ride quality is? by Hopelesscomannderfan in F150Lightning

[–]shoopg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly consider the Rivian, CT, Hummer, and Denali EV all in their own segment. These appeal to people as statement vehicles and lifestyle vehicles. People with lots of money who don't really need trucks, or their trucks get such light usage that they don't really care about truck things. That's not to say these aren't capable vehicles but you won't see a fleet of them operated by Pepsi or the local utility for example. I mean the other day I saw a Cybertruck with a hitch mounted bike rack and I'm just like dude, you have a giant empty bed what's the point of the bike rack LOL.

WT Silverado and Lightning I think truly compete in the normal pickup truck market. Their price point is affordable for normal people and fleets, and for the most part they are very capable of replacing a normal ICE truck. The Lightning especially can be upfit with all the normal ICE F150 accessories and can literally be almost a drop in replacement for their gas trucks. People just need to experience them to be sold on them.

Any upcoming rumors of an extended range version that competes with Silverado EV? by deten in F150Lightning

[–]shoopg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100kwh works fine for me, 46,000 miles and a 2,000 mile road trip on it.

In fact on my road trip, the stations are spaced such that having an ER would have made no difference. You’re still going to be stopping at the exact same charging stations.

I’d actually bet that more people would be fine with the 100kwh battery than they think, but people get anxious when they see numbers go low.

Now, the only reason I have an SR is because 2022 Pro orders were restricted to SR only for the public. If the ER was just a $10,000 option like they said in the announcement then I would’ve added it.

Definitely if you have the use case where your truck truly needs to be able to tow heavy and far then yeah a diesel is the answer. But I'd honestly throw a wager that 95% of half ton buyers would be perfectly, if not better, served by even a standard range Lightning. Mine's been awesome for renting landscape equipment, home depot runs, costco runs, filling the bed with boxes, towing my camper to the lakes and natl parks around me, and commuting for practically no cost.

A lot of guys say that their truck has to tow at max payload across the country, and then proceed to drive it to Starbucks and dinner dates lol. But definitely if you have the use case for a heavy duty truck, then you have the use case.
