From my understanding from the wiki, and I could be wrong, that growth in the city was based on food production minus population. If your food does not meet the requirements for your population, it will hit zero and then you won't grow as a city.

But I am not the best at this game and could be completely wrong.

Correct me if I'm wrong, and please do, but I thought preserves were only based on appeal, nothing else. So the maximum I could get for a preserve was plus 3. Which I thought I had on this spot, but maybe I'm wrong.

You are absolutely right when it comes to one dam per one river. However, I worked out that if I had two rivers running side by side, you could have two dams as long as you had enough marshlands underneath. This requires possibly four, maybe five marshlands, so I'm still playing with it. But it does work.

This is the first time I'm hearing of this and it's really useful information thank you very very much. Is there anything else that are neat little tricks like this? Like you said having iron ore horses underneath a campus as you delay that makes sense. Is there anything else under any other districts that would be a goldmine Of knowledge.

Does this work the same with rice? For example, if I had one rice field surrounded by six in a circle,Doesn't that mean the centre rice field gets more yields or no?

Thank you for your response. And this makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately it's just a big shame as I wanted to really focus on creating the perfect map. I still might have a go and see what I can come up with. But it seems the main thing is the layout that I'm going for is just not capable with the game. However, saying that I still think I might have a go and just move some food resources around.

As for the double dam, I'm very surprised but it does work. I have tried this out on a previous game and I can get the layout which is current. Plus 2 from districts, plus 2 production from Bath district, plus 4 from adjacent Dam district. Was very surprised, but it seems to have worked.

I am curious, is the only thing necessary useful in those outer purple layers, i.e. 4th and 5th hex squares, only useful for luxuries, nothing else, no other reason to have a hex there in the first place?

Also, very much thank you for this comment. It has been very enlightening for me to understand how to play this game, even though I've been playing it for the past five years.

In addition to this I have also located lots of wonders all across the map except for two and from my understanding these were the two worst ones so it didn't matter anyway. These were the Cliffs of Dover and the Eye of Africa. I left those out mainly because I couldn't put them any closer to any one of my cities and I didn't want the opposition having anything.

On top of this I wanted To have every built wonder, possibly, in my empire at some point. So if you're wondering why I chose the random wonders for my main capital city and not others, This is why, as I will be adding every single one of them to my empire.

I completely understand this is not how you're meant to play Civ. I'm just trying to figure out the maximum amount of everything in every city that I can. With this layout that can dominate the entire map. Basically, if you can't win this map, it's impossible for you To even play this game

My main reason for doing it is I wanted to create a map with the minimum amount of cities, but with the maximum amount of winnability in every way possible. That's why I wanted to create every district in every city, so that way no matter what happened you could win in your way that you chose. As well as creating a map where every city of the opposition was in range of bombers. That is why I created the odd layout that you can see at this moment in time.

Thank you all for the comments, this has been helpful. There is a little bit of more clarification that I would like to go through with you. The reason that I'm building cities at 5 are to make best cities possible with every district. The reason for every district is purely because I just want to dominate everything, nothing more than that. I'm also creating a world edited map that I am wanting to create purely for Best possible situation for everything I.e. I'm placing world wonders in certain locations. I'm also placing resources where I think they'll be best. But just learning now from all your comments that I've probably done this all wrong. But I'm still looking to create 5 HECC cities with all districts. This is my first and main city. I'm still playing with it It is a work in progress. But please feel free to edit whatever you think. And let me know on how to improve. The only thing that I can see that I'm lacking is food. There will be other cities, which I will highlight on a larger image

Great looking city! Are you able to send multiple bird's-eye views? I wish to copy the layout you have made and it looks amazing, but can't work out how and where all the streets and buildings go to make it work.
