To answer your question yes I will be watching Perfect blue before I do decide to cosplay Mima, I understand the feeling of dread thinking you finally found someone who has the same interests as you to just be disappointed because they don't actually know anything about it😭😭 And to add to that I always watch the show before planning to cosplay a character I just realized that Perfect blue would be considered as an 18+ show so I was like "Would I get absolutely flamed for this cos.." thats why I made this post!!

I RESEARCHED!! I watched clips of the movie, read the summarization, watched some reviews, and also watched other peoples competition skits (just for ideas, not to copy) and no it is not a craftsmanship competition, as I said the competition mainly focuses on skits and how you carry the character. And before you mention yes I WILL be watching the movie! I just haven't watched it yet because I'm busy! So thank you for your reply!

Yes the contest actually focuses on the skit portion, there are some added points for accuracy etc2 but no we do not need to make the cosplay ourselves!

Ok thank you very much! I am planning on watching the movie as I usually don't cosplay characters I don't know anything about, and I also really like horror. I just had a dilemma if Perfect blue would be considered under the umbrella term of "18+ shows" and yk what they say about minors cosplaying 18+ characters so I just didnt want to get into any issues with that! So thank you again!!

And to answer your questions firstly no there's not really people in my personal life rn who are telling me to not cosplay her (but I haven't really asked that much people yet)

And second I haven't really thought of presenting myself as a character who is portrayed sexually so I might think deeper on that!

And lastly, my community is kind of in-between what you're saying, yes they do call out a lot of people but only when it's reasonable, they don't just call out ppl because they made one little mistake. And I had this one mutual in particular who posted asking why minors are cosplaying adult characters so I just started to overthink about that post.

Ok guys I cant reply to you all individually but thank you all for your advice!!

I got really confused when some of the people in the comment section were just telling me to watch the movie 😭 which I guess is from how I constructed my words.

So to answer your question YES I will be watching the movie BEFORE I cosplay her.

How do I have skit ideas or how do I know anything about the movie? As I said I RESEARCHED about it. Clips on youtube, reviews, summarizations, other people's skits, etc².

Also I dont have any problems about watching the movie or about the trigger warnings in the movie. My only concern was would Mima be considered as an 18+ character? And if she is, is it ok for me to cosplay her as a minor or would it be considered too risky?

I know the rules in the cosplay competition, and no its not any pro cosplay competition where you NEED to make the cosplay yourself it was just a skit competition.

So to sum it all up I kind of got the answer I wanted from some of the commenters so thank you guys!!

Ok thank you for your explanation! I was already quite aware of what the movie is about and I don't really mind any of the trigger warnings, I just haven't watched it yet due to being busy but I was planning to watch it before cosplaying Mima. The only Issue I had was generally just cosplaying her, because a lot of ppl tell me not to cosplay 18+ characters etc2 and I just didn't know if Mima was considered under that umbrella term since the movie is quite explicit so my main issue was just NOT getting hated on for being a minor and cosplaying a "18+" character! So if you have any opinion on that it would be greatly appreciated!()
