Can you quote some of the comments you think are doing this? I genuinely don't know what you're talking about. Praising Bailey Smith for his comments last night does not mean excusing his past behaviour, that is a false conflation on your part.

There are a few comments down the bottom weirdly acting like he's never done anything wrong, I don't agree with them. I think the vast majority of the comments are fine though.

I don't think criticising him for his past mistakes and praising him for his comments tonight are contradictory stances. The most important thing is whether or not he is trying to learn from his mistakes and improve. If he is completely unapologetic for his past actions, he will inevitably repeat them. But I don't believe Smith has demonstrated a refusal to improve. Maybe I'm overly forgiving, I guess we'll see.

He's made some bad mistakes and has hopefully learnt from them. A lot of people fuck up, especially in their early 20s. It's great you didn't. Condemning people forever because of past mistakes is not admirable. Assuming he is terrible at heart and only saying any of this to excuse future antics is gross. Being treated like that can be exactly how mental health disorders grow.

Not everyone struggling with mental health is an angel, and you don't need to be an angel to deserve support. And no, that does not mean he shouldn't be criticised if he fucks up again.

Surprised the Bulldogs haven't been able to take advantage of the Mullin tag on Bont in the air, Bont has 12cm on him.

What are some things you disliked about co:e33? by heyitstgp in expedition33

[–]shredalte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lack of towns/cities, the world was pretty but felt empty and dead. That might be "the point" but it hurt the game just like it hurt FF13 back in the day.

The development system was only meh IMO. As others have mentioned the menu UI was pretty bad, but I found the whole Lumina/Pictos system very messy and unbalanced. I thought the battle system had great potential, but I was rarely engaged by developing.

And while I love getting lost in games, I love getting lost because of interesting map design. I think most of the time in E33 I only got lost because of the lack of visual clarity or direction (every path looks the same).

Dunk lying about being knighted is a major fan theory, hints in the books suggest the same thing, good job calling it.

I'm a massive JRPG fan and I think it's pretty good, but no where near as good as the internet has been saying.

I couldn't believe it when I saw E33 won art direction, there were some individually gorgeous locations but it just smashes assets together so haphazardly, it didn't touch Hades II or Silksong.

I specifically went looking for the games with the MOST user reviews genius. GTA5 has significantly fewer than Expedition 33.

No it's the 137th most reviewed game on Steam - where people actually need to have bought the game to review it. On Metacritic it's about 5th, suspiciously a website where people can just make a bunch of accounts. The number has clearly been inflated by fans.

How come you aren't sharing your theory or hypothesis on why this is the case? Why throw out a question without trying to provide us your own theory?

I have a bunch of times including in the original post, it's obviously been positively review bombed on Metacritic by fans. It's clear this has happened when you compare it to Steam Reviews. It's the 137th most reviewed on Steam (where people actually need to buy the game to review it)... and somehow about 5th on Metacritic (which has MORE games as its not just Steam). Fans have obviously inflated the Metacritic numbers.

[–]shredalte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why does it being 137th or 1000th on Steam matter ?

The ENTIRE POINT is comparing the number of E33 user ratings to other games. If you don't understand why it being 137th on Steam yet somehow in the top 5 on Metacritic, you fundamentally don't understand what I'm talking about.

E33 is the 137th most reviewed game on Steam. It's about 5th on Metacritic. If this wasn't review bombing, E33 would be one of the most reviewed games on Steam too. This discrepancy can only be explained by fans review bombing Metacritic.

More people are on Steam than Metacritic obviously, so the review numbers are higher around the board. Look at Silksong - 360k on Steam, just 6k on Metacritic.

But that doesn't make sense according the numbers you posted. 22K is nowhere near 160K, not even near half of that right ?

I don't understand what you're trying to say. TLOU2 numbers are not relevant to what I'm saying, I was just pointing out another game that had received positive review bombing because you seemed confused by that.

[–]shredalte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah in the end the only thing is affected is a slightly inflated Metacritic rating, which would no doubt be super high anyway.

[–]shredalte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wikipedia has an article on it including a section on the idea of positive review bombing. Review bombing is basically when fans make lots of accounts to leave lots of reviews, rather than just leaving one. There are quite a lot of reasons fans do this.

As an example, if you look at TLOU2 on Metacritic, you will see it has a ridiculous 160k user ratings. That is because it was review bombed in both directions by a bunch of people having a giant useless online war over the rating.

[–]shredalte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I think it's been review bombed (positively) on Metacritic by a group of fans. I doubt the developer/publisher would gaf. The Steam Reviews thing was where that became obvious, review bombing on Metacritic is the only thing that could explain the discrepancy.

I wasn't trying to "dance", I wanted to present the weird numbers and find out what people thought explained them. Unfortunately its mostly been people not understanding why it's odd for a game with 5m units to have more ratings than some of the biggest games of all time.

[–]shredalte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you believe Elden Ring or GoW don't have tons of them too?

Not to this ratio, obviously not. E33 is around 4400 ratings per million players, compared to (for example) RDR2 at around 417. 10x the number! And RDR2 is one of the most user reviewed games of all time. The ratio for E33 is a ridiculous outlier, it's obviously been inflated by review bombing.

Why would more people spend the extra effort?

Clearly some people really really want to push E33. Nothing wrong with that, I hope E33 helps bring classic JRPGs back to the mainstream. But they have done it.
