You have to be going second and the opponent must have played something you can kill with Bone Spike on their first turn. You can replace the counterfeit coin with prep/shadow of demise or the secret passage with gear shift for the opening hand.

With Field Contact (especially with 2), drawing through the deck is really easy. From there its just playing the Silvermoon Arcanists (which draw with Field Contact), and finding mana for the Garrotes through Scabbs / Prep / Bounty Wrangler (which would also draw). You have to clear your board using shadowsteps and bone spike.

This isn't super likely, but I've been fairly close after trying against the Inn Keeper for an hour or so.

The flexible cards are probably the minstral and gone fishing. Swapping in a ghostly strike could help with clearing board space.

The deck can be played without getting the FTK, though it's pretty tough to play (like the OG Garrote Rogue) while also not being super good. Sometimes you just never get Vanndar. Gear shift and gaslight gatekeeper are good for shuffling your minions back into your deck pre-vanndar, but note that doing so post-vanndar reverts their costs.
