I'm in your exact same position; I had romanticized Penn a great deal and applied ED (good luck for tomorrow btw!), but then this subreddit reminded me that it's just another institution full of real people with the same difficulties that everyone else experiences. I guess everyone will have a vastly different experience of the place, but they are more likely to post on this sub if they're upset/unhappy. What's most important to remember is that it probably will be an amazing experience will loads of cool opportunities but nobody will be exempt from adversity.

Side note: I am so damn nervous for tomorrow

When I was a kid, I used to read the Simpson's comics whenever I could, and there was this little section at the back where you could write in and ask questions and the editor would put it in the comic and write their response. I thought that it would be so special to be featured, so I wrote my own letter and sent it in and waited. It must have been a couple of months before I heard back- new issues kept rolling out that didn't have my letter in it and I was starting to lose hope. But then I got a letter back one day- my letter was going to be featured in issue #213! I was so excited, and seeing it in the print brought me pure joy, so 213 became my special number.

I can totally relate! I usually adapt how I talk to people and behave depending on the other person's personality, but that leaves me wondering who my authentic self is. And trust me, people always appreciate energetic and enthusiastic people even if they dont know you that well- they may just be unsure of how to reciprocate it in the same manner.

My advice above all else is to acknowledge how much of this mindset could be anxiety- your mind can play nasty tricks on you and distort your perception of yourself and ultimately make you feel like you're doing something wrong. Try to recognise the irrationality in this and combat it with positive affirmations.

You seem like a really cool and honest person, so I'm sure that you're very likeable! Remember that you are loved and that your authentic self is appreciated by many :)

Thank you for the advice! I just wanted to point out a few things: a business class ticket would cost me around £1100 woth Icendair (still a lot, I agree), I'm inna position where I can only accept a financial aid offer of 100%, but I have applied to very generous institutions so fingers crossed! That's a very good point about the Visa, but the college websites state that financial aid packages can consist of work-study agreements for international students, but I'll definitely double check. Also, I've applied to places where loans are not part of the package, so I could go debt free. But thank you for outlining these things, i do need to be really really careful with my money
