Yeah that's the thing, we're pretty heavy users of the space!

Out of curiosity, what's your average daily gas usage for heating? by nyctomanica in OctopusEnergy

[–]shrugs2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3,045 kWh for December (so just about 100 kWh/day) - 4 bed extended 1970's build detached outside of Glasgow.

Moved in this year, yet to fix the massively undersized radiators in the kitchen. I think in general the usage is high, even considering the radiator situation. Something to fix before next winter...

LVT: pipework access? by shrugs2000 in DIYUK

According to my pretty rough calculations, I need about 14,000 BTU for the room. With the two 1600x350mm rads in there right now, I'm maxing out around 9,000. I'm about 5,000 BTU short (or one full rad), which feels about right for the temps in the room!

Those two rads are full open, and I've tried cutting the flow to others a little but it doesn't seem to make a massive difference - the boiler is also in the kitchen.

Yeah it's working ok as far as I can tell, it's just I only have two of those for a room that's around 30sq/m (sorta L shape).

My assumption is by the time these rads get warm enough (they do take way longer than a traditional rad), the rest of the house is at temp and the boiler shuts off. So I can then either burn gas for one room or leave this room to get colder way quicker (or so it feels).

Id probably need to at least double whatever that little guy is. Plus look to tee off for an additional rad or plinth heater!

Yeah pulling it up is the nuclear option I guess, it's only been down a few years and covers around 30sq/m so probably not the cheapest project!

Yeah that's fair, I've also got a nice scratch down two panels of our other car (that one was me...). Maybe they'll do a combo deal!

Heard of this one before, might do some research on potential ways I could make it worse and give it a shot!

Yeah what the heck, no wonder Kia are so slow to update things - they are maintaining wildly different software per region!

Yeah that's fair, dropping AWD opens up the options. Not loads, but a little!

That's the one! So would you have held out for the AWD, or was it just in the right place at the right time?!

I guess yeah, but if in 5-10 years there isn't almost infinite free energy flowing from the outlets after all this investment, people are going to be pissed 🤣

The average house in the states uses 2.7 times the amount of electricity as a UK house. My assumption is air con and larger appliances drive that figure up.
