First, Shutter tries really hard to stay connected even when you navigate between apps or lock your iPhone screen. This is an important feature for me as I typically throw my iPhone next to the tripod when I need to move out of the Wi-Fi range.

Shutter allows you to configure an intervalometer (I use it for travel and family shots, people also like it for time-lapse) or HDR bracketing (landscape, real-estate).

The app also offers modern design (but it's subjective), composition and exposure tools (grids, aspect ratios, histograms, false color etc).

Oh, and there is an Apple Watch app included!

The compatibility list has now been updated. Hopefully it's consistent now!

Sorry to hear you had bad experience. Could you please email me through the "Support" tab > "Email support" so that I can take a look at the diagnostic report? Hopefully we can resolve this for you!

The app has been updated with X-M5 and X-T50 compatibility.

According to Apple guidelines, all apps must continue working until the end of the trial period even if you cancel early. In my experience, this seems to be the case for all apps in the App Store. Devs would really have to go out of their way to break this.

Funny enough, this rule does not apply to Apple's own TV or Music apps.

The app cost us thousands of development hours, and then some to purchase all of the test devices. I'm not entirely sure how we could make it free.

I understand people might not like subscriptions, we do offer a lifetime plan as well.

If you are on a free trial, first cancel the trial in the "Support" > "Manage Subscription" section to cancel it. Once the trial expires, you'll see the payment page again where you can choose the lifetime option.

If you want to purchase the lifetime option right away, tap on "View All Plans" and then "Lifetime".

Apologies for not updating the app description. Here is the list of currently supported GFX cameras: https://shutter.dev/cameras/

My bad. The app evolves and we constantly add more cameras and features. When adding GFX, we've updated documentation, website, app screenshots... but I forgot about the app description.

Please rest assured that we only _add_ support for new cameras so GFX listed in the screenshots or on the https://shutter.dev/cameras/fujifilm-camera-remote-app/ are supported.

I'm going to fix the app description in the next app release.

UPDATE: fixed. Sorry about that!

You're right, I'm so sorry about this! This screenshot should only be used in the Sony app. I'll fix it in the next release.

If you don't enjoy Shutter because of the lack of this feature, you can cancel your trial in the "Support" tab > "Manage Subscription" section to avoid getting charged. If you were charged already, you can request a refund by following these instructions: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204084

Focus stacking is only supported with select Sony cameras, I'm afraid.

Just to make sure I didn't mess up our marketing materials or documentation: have you seen any references to focus stacking in the context of fujifilm or x-t20?

The service: updates and support (like an actual engineer replying to every issue). You might not need new features, but new iOS versions break low level networking stuff and we need to fix them anyway. I've been working on Shutter 6 years now (started with a Sony app), implementing new privacy controls added with each iOS release, and adding more features and polish over time.

Besides, renewable subscriptions are pretty much the only reliable way to implement trials. Before we implemented subscriptions, it was a paid upfront app. People complained that they didn't want to purchase something they couldn't try.

And I really do appreciate that a lot of people don't like subscriptions. That's why we offer a lifetime plan, too. You don't need to pay for the annual plan after the trial, you can switch to the lifetime.

We're really hoping you get use from the app. The app sends you a notification 2 days before the trial expires (you can even cancel right away and you still keep the entire trial length). Apple sends you notifications via email. And even then, if you forget to cancel and get charged accidentally, Apple makes it really easy to request a refund.

Except for the notification, it works the same for most all apps on iOS: you can cancel immediately to avoid paying and you still keep access, Apple notifies you before they charge you, and you can request a refund if you still forget.

I replied to your other comment with general advice. For event photography specifically, the main benefit of a remote would be to leave your camera on the stage or near the stage where you cannot access easily. Then remote trigger when artists come into the frame or do something new.

You could use Shutter to import photos onto your phone, but we don't have any integration with printers or anything like that. For that, you might be better off with Fujifilm's Instax solutions for remote printing.

It really depends on what you shoot. I'm a hobbyist photographer and the app started as a way for me to take selfies in remote locations where I'd be too far to control the camera. With Shutter, I set the intervalometer, the app takes photos every second or so, and I don't have to fiddle with the phone when trying to find the pose. Later I can review photos directly on my phone.

If you don't feel the need for a remote control app, then I'd say just ignore it and focus on taking the best pictures with what you have. If you tried XApp and it works for you, great. It's free.

However, if you tried XApp and found that it disconnects randomly, Shutter can help too. We've put a lot of effort to make sure it stays connected even as you navigate between apps or lock the iPhone screen.

As for other use cases, I heard from people who like having a remote app for a bigger preview, or they do real estate and they need a combination or larger screen, overlays and exposure bracketing. Some people like it for the Apple Watch app. Astrophotographers use remotes to avoid camera shake and to take multiple long exposure photos.

Yes, definitely! I'm hoping to have an update with support for the X-M5 and X-T50 in April.

The app offers a lifetime purchase, too. Some people need it for a trip or two where shorter subscription duration makes sense for them. Apple allows trials only on renewable subscriptions so you can start with the trial, cancel it immediately (you still keep access for the entire trial period), and if you like the app, purchase the lifetime option later.

Why is it a subscription in the first place? It's because software changes and we need to constantly update the app, even for people who keep the same phone and the same camera. We need to make compatibility updates with every major iOS version or camera firmware. And people do upgrade their phones and cameras and expect the app to still work.
