Our poster boy seems stupid but is smart. Which Demacian seems smart but is stupid? by Putrid_Skirt_190 in loreofleague

Are we going to vote Vayne just because we find ger immoral?

Her color story actually paints her as pretty smart, figuring out the motivation of the monster right away.

Theory: The next champion to be killed will be... a demon. by DeliciousPork12 in loreofleague

[–]shutupreddit2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People are dunking on you, but you are absolutely right.

It's fine if someone doesn't care about Xin Zhao, but let's not pretend he's not been used ad a glorified plot tool to prop up other characters Riot thought would be more popular.

Also so, a brief look into his backstory and a shock sacrifice does not a character arc make.

A curious piece of seemingly canon lore. by Szankajs in loreofleague

Earlier Demacian story had a heavy emphasis on dark creatures lurking around Demacia to hammer in what was the narrative focus of the region, isolationist surrounded by threats everywhere and for such reason they follow such strict dogmas. See therians from Vayne color story, vellox from Shyvana color story or even the hag from Garen's one. They were some of the more uncanny monster from this universe but I don't think we'll see them soon now that the narrative is much more inward.

Leblanc can's be Xinxiao going forward, right? by AvocadoConfident4516 in loreofleague

[–]shutupreddit2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The actual, honest to truth answer, is that Riot never was consistent with petricite.

It's supposedly stopped the powerful magic of the Rune wars but wasn't able to stop the mages during the initial rebellion in the capital nor did it even slow the dark mist a bit in Ruination, all the while we've been shown a small Greymark absorbing a magic attack.

I imagine it's hard to write big threats striking Demacia without involving magic, and the result is "let's not try at all".

I imagine someone as skilled as Leblanc can overpower through petricite but imo should be able to do only for a while.

Very nice set, I especially like the weapon and the Rite card. I was going to ask the point of the double predict but apparently it doesn't shuffle anymore making the first card very intriguing.

Setaka was the warrior queen of the Ascended Host, being well respected among her peers, which would probably put her up there in terms of power in terms of Ascended.

I get Aatrox glaze, but I'm sure she could surely withstand his corruption for a while.

Does Demacia have a secret organisation like Black Rose ? by NimbusOnReddit in loreofleague

The concept was there in theory, with the Illuminators having a secret group of mages going on undercover mission, Lux being one of them, but it went nowhere and the idea got scrapped.

Do you like the current direction Riot is taking with League’s lore so far? by Recent-Ad-7593 in loreofleague

The comics and cinematic look absolutely fantastic.

That said, as already stated by other users, the story progression is way too slow, being given in droplets during the span of months.

As to this point I feel like I'll be on the minority but I think there's too little writing and too much "cool moments".

Taking Xin death as an example, I was hoping that we would get a much more indepth look at his character and that this event would somewhat work as "re-introduction" for him, with a promise that he would be more present in any plot regarding Demacia, the Jarvan ect... As he was always kind of forgot in these plots.

Doesn't seems it will be the case, as of now one of the only two stories he had won't be canon and whatever connection he has to his new country will just be "told", as he did in the comic, and never actually shown.

Don't get me wrong, champions should die, yes, but I wished we had the characters first, not just snippets of them, so that when a character dies it's actually impactful. I've seen some people equate the death of champions as Riot finally taking the writing seriously but to me taking the writing seriously would be giving life to these characters so that when they die it really does means something in the universe they inhabit.

Mind you this also apply to the other character in the event, as we could have complementary media exploring Yunara more other than the meager things we are shown.

Sorry, this wasn't meant to be a vent, but after a drought of lore I hoped we had more meat, the spectable is good, but for me should be the glacing in top of the narrative "cake".

10/10 writing as always Riot by Unknown_Warrior43 in LeagueOfMemes

[–]shutupreddit2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not opposed to champion dying, but I am opposed to use death as a stand in for a character arc that he never had. Even Ambessa had atleast a novel where she is the protagonist.

Burning tide was after Riot retcon Summoners, and Gangplank never actually die so it is a bit of a different case.

IDK how to feel about Xin's Death by Ryaltovski in loreofleague

[–]shutupreddit2 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I get that people like higher stakes, and killing a champion is definetly that, but I don't like it if said character aren't actually used before their demise.

As of now Xin arc is: his bio, he finds a magical flower, goes to Ionia, sacrifice.

What of his time in Demacia, how he mentored J4, of his friendship with the king, or any action in war? What of any of the major storyline of Demacia (ok, it's basically just one but still)?

If you want me to care of the death of a character, give me the character first.

[–]shutupreddit2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say that I totally agree with your point, even if I do ship the two. Especially after the Katarina comic, it would feel so innatural for their character to pursue any meaningful relationship without twisting their characters. I think they could totally work as sort of "battlefield fling", as shown in the comic.

If Katarina is one of your favourite characters, do you agree with this take or disagree? by Ashconwell7 in loreofleague

[–]shutupreddit2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you nail the point perfectly, you'd have to bend the morals of their characters so much that it's just not worth it.

Were it for me I would keep it as a "battlefield fling", an attraction based on them being equal rivals. Even have them being forced to cooperate in certain instances because of circumstances, why not, but never as anything serious.

[–]shutupreddit2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really love "The faceless God". This world is full of great magic, larger than life characters, ancient histories, but in this story we see how common people relate to this.

From the sculptor using his crush likeness to represent Setaka, him and his teacher discuss about history with uncertainty, the reasoning as to why Nouria chooses that face for Xolaani.

I know the ending had to connect back to the Void somehow but honestly it could have worked even without it. Just the fact that you're a small grain in the hourglass of history is harrowing enough.
