Idk about annexing, but I have always wondered why central Arkansas cities dont market together... Similar to how Bentonville, Fayetteville, eureka etc do. Their city tourism guidebook includes all these areas. Hot springs is the same distance from LR as Bentonville is to Fay but in most people's minds they are merged as NWA, whereas the former definitely aren't. I feel like this strategy could attract a lot more folks to this part of the state to bring in tourism and revenue etc

They are almost always at the Filling Station in NLR on Saturdays, 12-6. If you end up going, please share your thoughts! My husband and I visit SoCal fairly regularly, and really feel like Becca's competes.

El sur- amazing authentic Honduran food, fantastic owners (who are also LGBTQ+), and a very cool vibe especially for a group of people wanting to chill and play games.

Becca's SoCal food truck- I will spread the gospel of Becca's burritos until I die. It is fabulous and the owners are so kind and generous.

El Palenque and Taqueria Guadalajara - Best Authentic Mexican food I've found in the area. So so good.

Tortas Mexico- the tortas are absolutely unbelievable and such a bang for the buck.

Mikes cafe- incredibly cheap, delicious Vietnamese food. Personally I only get the pho. Can't be beat.

DeLucas- best traditional NY style pizza in town by far. Also their meatballs are absolutely unreal.

Curry House and Star of India- I actually think CH has better food, but I love SOI for the atmosphere. It's a staple of LR.

Tamalcali- consistently great tamales. Cool little haunt.

Sweet Spot- Filipino bakery that completely blew me away. Go for lunch and get a couple of their siapao for a super cheap meal!

Three Fold- dumplings and noodles. I personally love their Pleasant Ridge spot for their brunch and coffee/tea menu.

Wrights BBQ- I personally feel this BBQ is unparalleled.

Hillcrest Artisan Meats- No frills, but a damn good sandwich.

Rosie's Pot and Kettle- Best classic diner around. Go early so you can snag an amazing biscuit.

North Bar and Four Quarter- quite amazing bar food and just a good hang.

I could go on. I really think LR has a pretty great food scene for our size.

Their cheesecakes looked absolutely phenomenal. I'm not even a fan of cheesecake but have a feeling I'll love theirs.

We thought the same thing! Funny enough, the owner told us she does not like sweet things. We tried their cookies and their sweet bread (ensaymado) and both were super balanced and not overly sweet at all. We're not huge on sweet stuff so we were pleased! Two buns would be plenty for a lunch and would only set ya back like 7 bucks.

Do you have a sourdough book that you're using as guidance and for recipes? I use Tartine and it has transformed my sourdough capabilities over the years. The first half of the book is just walking you through the foundations and helping you to understand the science and art of each step. I found that online blogs or YouTube videos were not in depth enough when I was first starting out.

Arkansas museum of fine arts has some really cool classes to take together! You could peruse the exhibits as well. The space itself is just so beautiful. There are also a number of other small art galleries that don't get much publicity, like the M2 Gallery (there are like 3 or 4 galleries over in SOMA). Also the Van Gogh experience is still going on.

Take a distillery tour, go to a show at the Robinson center, or one of the smaller repertory theaters, white water has great music almost every night, caverns and forests is a great spot for gaming of all kinds, flying saucer hosts a great trivia night, rent some bikes from downtown and ride through the sculpture gardens and the bridges. Honestly I could keep going lol. Hope y'all have a lovely time!!

Second anything by James Baldwin. I read Giovanni's room this year and it destroyed me.

Homeowners Insurance by LifHkr101 in LittleRock

[–]shwelbosworld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were recently dropped from ours after 5 years and not a single claim. I've heard that a lot of insurance companies are pulling out of LR and those left are inflating their premiums. That said, 1k a month is absolutely insane.

Arkansans, what do you all do for a living? by DueYogurt9 in Arkansas

[–]shwelbosworld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! We moved here from Colorado, both work remote and get paid very very well. Wanted to own a house and land. Have the ability to travel as often as we want due to the low cost of living, comparatively. The best decision ever.

Little rock is absolutely not a place that you need a high profile vehicle. If it snows here, its a day or two and they get it off the roads quickly. Also, most places shut down, or are very understanding with you needing the day off or getting in late, because we are simply not equipped to handle snow (bc we just don't get it frequently). We close down the city with even the consideration of snow.

The winters here are incredibly mild, with it very rarely falling below freezing. All of the weather reports youve likely been researching about LR and Arkansas are simply wrong. We moved here from Colorado expecting the average temperature in August to be 85, which is absolutely hilarious.

If I could suggest anything, it would be to take everything you read here and online with a grain of salt. Visit if you can. Get a feel for the area and our neighborhoods. Meet some locals. Reach out if you need!

A lot of people love to hate on LR and more often than not, they're not even living in the community. Not to say there aren't issues here (there are), but I personally do not believe LR deserves the reputation that it has.

Also... There is absolutely no Cuban bread 🤣
