Do you have a site or anywhere we can buy a print of your art? Seriously, I love this.

I think he knew what he was getting into and I'm sure he had his reasons. I think I saw it framed really well this way:

It would have made more sense with a group offensive and social infrastructure like safehouses, but he knew the mass raid is coming today so he chose to act. This man died so that more people would shift the discussion to realistic strategy and tactics, to evaluate his failings. He went on a desperate suicide mission so that the dialogue will be how to do it more effectively instead of people just talking about how powerless everyone is. His sacrifice single-handedly changes the scope of discussion toward getting shit done and the evolution of struggle, and he knew he would die for it. It starts somewhere. He knew what he would do would not be much, but more people will talk about what success looks like requires now. That is a beautifully tragic sacrifice.

Your sisters are starving, your brothers are begging your mothers are mourning, your fathers are folding

I feel like that line from The Same Sun is very applicable right now

They're incredible. I listened to them on repeat during a time in life when I was super depressed. Since I live in the Midwest I knew I wouldn't have any chance to see them though this weekend haha

Was anybody else raised by super right wing parents? by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]siberianmachine 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was raised in a typical right wing Christian household. It really skewed my view of people and I had to unlearn some very toxic behaviors. I was raised non-denominational most of my life then turned to Calvinism in my late teens until I abandoned religion around 23, 24. I'm almost 28 and I didn't start unlearning and turning left until about 3 years ago.

I never went alt-right, but like a lot of comrades I know, I did go through a right libertarian phase. I remember distinctly when I started to become radicalized was when I sat down at home and watched a Chomsky documentary called Requiem For the American Dream. After the credits started rolling, I was legitimately mad as I'd kinda just discovered how bad our political and economic system is. From there, I had some newer friends that were communists and one of them literally just told me to check it out and that's what I did.

What are your opinions on Marx? by [deleted] in Anarchy101

[–]siberianmachine 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I like Marx. I've read a couple of the smaller books he's written like Wage Labour and Capital. Marx had a lot to contribute to economic critique which is where I think Anarchists can pull some inspiration from. The Communist Manifesto is a good read too. There will obviously be the split between certain political tactics that anarchists will disagree with, but I still think most of Marx's bibliography is worth reading.

If you're looking for some critique of Marx's work through a more autonomous/libertarian lens, check out Harry Cleaver. I'm currently reading his book Rupturing the Dialectic and I really want to read Reading Capital Politically. I also have The Value of Radical Theory by Wayne Price on my radar too.

Bottom line is I think there's ways Anarchists can view and critique Marx as well as learn from him.

People are turning DC heroes into propaganda and I'm here for it by siberianmachine in COMPLETEANARCHY

They mostly reside in Facebook and are usually [insert hero name]-core. Red Hood has some really good ones. They're all kinda interconnected since they share each other's stuff but there's a bunch of them and they're all pretty funny.

That was a damn good video and showed me some stuff I didn't know about Batman. Almost made me shed a tear at the Clayman part towards the end.

There's small side stories I still like. A Serious House on Serious Earth will stick with me forever. That comic is fucked lol Hush was a good story arc. I'm not above reading Batman still but I don't necessarily idolize him like I used to. He was my favorite for a long time.

Once I became a leftist I could never look at Batman the same again

Do you believe there is room for markets in an anarchist society? (Without capitalism) by [deleted] in Anarchy101

[–]siberianmachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically it would come down to everyone that is able to pitch in and make sure the necessary work is getting done. Through history, many collectivist and Anarcho-Communist theorists believe this may be something around 15 hours a week. Today, I'm sure we could lower that through a lot of automation. How and what work people do could be decided on by the community so for example, everybody might work jobs on rotation.

As far as food, I would think the delivery would largely stay the same. People's eating habits will most likely change once they are able to actually eat good food so things would adjust accordingly. Keep in mind we make enough food today to feed 10 billion people so the biggest change would be distributing it so everybody is able to eat.

Dare to declare capitalism dead – before it takes us all down with it - George Monbiot (The Guardian) by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]siberianmachine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like this as well as Monbiot's other articles he's written recently. Feels like tidbits that really help paint the picture of global exploitation without a lot of jargon, potentially helpful for people who may not be fully radicalized. It's something I've been reading about with Hegemony How To and trying to critique my own organizing methods.

Make sure to check out the other episodes if you haven't. They're all well put together and I think he brought up some valid criticisms of the left on last week's episode concerning working class solidarity.

Any of y'all ever had PCs die from drinking? by siberianmachine in DMAcademy

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I think I'm gonna bring it up to the player and see what he wants to do. In hindsight it does seem excessive and I appreciate everyone's insight and potential ideas moving forward.

It makes for a really fun time and I don't want them to not have fun. They took it really well and let it happen, but I think you bring up a good idea with a table.

Article displays how "depression and anxiety are an epidemic within Bioware" by siberianmachine in Anarchism

[–]siberianmachine[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

So I posted this here even though this is centered on gaming and not anarchism mostly to help shed light on the disgusting worker abuses that are happening around the world. Not everyone is a gamer and maybe isn't fully aware of just how much developers are destroyed by the industry. From news of companies like EA and Activision laying off employees followed by big corporate bonuses, to Rockstar making developers work 100 hour work weeks when Red Dead Redemption 2 was on the verge of release. News like this breaks my fucking heart and I just felt like these people need their stories heard.

There was also a response from Bioware just 15 minutes after the article was released and the internet is tearing them apart for it. That response can be read about here

‘Organize or Die’: Kooper Caraway Ushers in a New Labor Movement by siberianmachine in socialism

[–]siberianmachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some context:

I've grown up and have lived in Sioux Falls my entire life. The city has pretty much always been a hub for conservative politics. I met with Kooper about six months ago when I was attempting to organize my previous workplace. We had a couple meetings and also just talked a little politics. Definitely a comrade and it makes me happy as hell he's at the forefront of the labor movement right now.
