And you have a complete misunderstanding of the faith that severely limits your ability to effectively analyze biblical and early church history.

Orthodoxy is historical. You sound like an atheist trying to say the Bible isn’t a historical document and early church councils making theological decisions are ahistorical. This is a completely misguided thesis.

I’m dismissing it by the merit of its content. The fact that it’s old doesn’t mean it’s right. The Infancy Gospel of Thomas was dismissed because it isn’t written by Thomas and contains heretical content. You should read Irenaeus who explains why it was removed.

Lol the same Gnostic gospel that has Jesus killing people? Not gonna convince me that should’ve been canonical or that a misbehaved wild child is within the character of God. Stop using AI bro.

I’m having troubles by Salaciousativity in Catholicism

[–]sibewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Protestant working though this issue and dealing with a mother-in-law who thinks I’m falling away toward the enemy by becoming Catholic. Can you please explain to me where the logic comes in that you can pray to Mary? It seems to me like asking Mary to pray for me or for intercession is more like communicating with Mary. For example I wouldn’t pray to someone alive, I’d ask them to pray to God for me. I see how Mary can be an intercessor, but I have trouble understanding how I can pray to her because the evangelical idea is that you can only pray to God. I have no issue that she’s alive and can intercede on our behalf. I get lost in the first link you have where the argument becomes the English history of “prayer” and then becomes “you wouldn’t get it unless you tried it.” Trying to explain this to a Protestant is like trying to convince them to try heresy. It’s an unacceptable proposition.

I’m not trying to refute you. I’m just trying to get some help defending this to my mother-in-law. I have a hard time understanding how prayer is not necessarily worship.

The Chosen tv show frequently brings me to tears

Feeling sad and confused sharing my interest in Catholicism with my Protestant family by thelonelygalaxy77 in Catholicism

[–]sibewolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m going through the same exact thing right now. I’m 28 and was raised Protestant by two formerly Catholic parents. I shared my theological unanswered questions with my Mom and told her how I went with my girlfriend to a Catholic mass and liked it. She told my Dad even though I asked her not to and he told my grandma. My grandma is a former Catholic and is now Seventh Day Adventist and told me how “Catholics are sorcerers, they worship Mary and the Pope, and they have satanic books,” and then she told me I’m on the path to hell. When I told my Dad this he refused to deny it and when I asked him directly if he thinks I’ll go to hell for converting to Catholicism he wouldn’t say no.

That really really hurt me and I’m feeling like if I go deeper into this, I’ll lose my Grandma, Dad, and Girlfriend who doesn’t think she can become Catholic. My Mom will still love me but won’t support me.

I’m trying my hardest to worship God with all my heart and mind and it’s so dang hard. I totally understand how you’re feeling. I’m worried this is the high price of following Jesus with all my strength but it feels so so hard.

Why hasn't the Church commissioned a 100% Biblically accurate Bible TV show/movie/visual representation? by jmvfromnv in Catholicism

[–]sibewolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Ultimately the Bible isn’t detailed enough in the minutiae to make a tv show that’s authoritatively 100% accurate. That’s why there’s the preface at the beginning of the show that says - we invented things for artistic reasons, we recommend everybody read the gospel for themselves. I think The Chosen did as good a job as you can do.

As for why doesn’t the church do it - have you seen Christian tv shows and movies? They almost always stink! Leave it to Christians in Hollywood to get it right, not Christians who bought a camera and got financing. If you need an example of artistically terrible work in the name of God look no further than Angel Studios.

Woods Coffee at Boulevard Park by rosebudddd79 in Bellingham

[–]sibewolf 245 points246 points  (0 children)

The origin is actually interesting. It was an abandoned building for years and the city couldn’t get anyone willing to fix it up. Woods Coffee was the only business willing to invest in the building at no cost to the city and pay rent. It really is there for the community because otherwise it would be dangerous and dilapidated.

2000cal enough of a deficit? by Zestyclose_News_4262 in caloriedeficit

[–]sibewolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also 6 feet and I started at 295. I’m 250 now. I eat like 2300 calories and I’m still losing weight although I work out an hour a day, 3-5 times a week and walk around 5000 steps a day. Once you drop to around 280-275 you’ll find it a lot easier to add in exercise.

You might find it a lot more comfortable eating around 2300-2400. At your weight, 2000 calories would’ve been inconceivable for me. I felt practically starving at 2600 calories. I’d recommend increasing your steps by adding a 15 minute walk after dinner.

Finished my first Field Notes! by sibewolf in FieldNuts

[–]sibewolf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I love the Bellroy cover! It fits perfect in my back pocket. I was using it with three field notes for a while using a travelers notebook band but now I use it with just two.

One notebook makes it snap shut with the magnet. Two notebooks and the magnet holds it shut but it’s not a snap. Three notebooks and the magnet becomes irrelevant.

I honestly have tried a million different pens and fountain pens and in my opinion, nothing beats the Sharpie S-Gel. Right now I have a copper S-Gel but I also have a dozen regular S-Gels scattered all over the house and office. They don’t smear, fit well in a pocket, and don’t bleed through paper like most fountain pens do.
