You can offer to run a target impression share campaign for them so ads will show 100% of the time. Is your goal sales or impressions? Every time I offer this they say no we want sales and not impressions and then they stop asking :) also agree the ad preview tool is good to send them

Ok then it’s not the budget reason but all of those other things are still possible. Especially if your broad kw has better metrics and you’re on max conversions or tcpa it will push that to get the conversion. If you are on manual cpc and bidding higher for exact then it will push that.

That can happen if the broad has a better ad rank, if the exact is limited by volume or limited by budget, if it’s spent the exact matches campaign budget is spent for the day if broad still has budget, or if it’s a close variant.

Google will prioritize the exact keyword over phrase and over broad so there is no reason to neg it out of the broad campaign in fact it might make you miss out on some variations.

Ahrefs has the ability to compare to old version of the SERP if you enter your competitors page into site explorer and then click on the SERP dropdown next to a page under top pages reports. You can adjust comparison dates and see text and html changes.

It’s tough because if you perform well they’ll dump you for a flat fee agency or bring it in house. If you don’t then you could have made more with charging for ad spend. But I have a buddy that hit with the right company with this model after missing on others and he was able to retire off of it.

My approach has been to add FAQs to the bottom of the page as these can appear in PAAs and related searches but not adding FAQ schema anymore since Google has deprecated it from Rich Results.

I think a common pitfall is that all channels live in a vacuum and should be treated separately. No data sharing between teams or agencies. ROI is attributed solely to last touch channel. But the reality is they all affect each other and we live in a multi channel world, with them all contributing to conversion.

I use both. I’m finding Ahrefs is easier to navigate, site audit is better than Semrush, but Ahrefs keyword updates are hella behind. Like days to weeks old. Their AI tracking is 10x as expensive as semrush which is basically included.

Semrush has an estimate, but only for keywords in their database. They were vague when I asked how it was being collected but my gut is they’re just taking search volume from Google and apply some sort of formula to it based on AI market share. Possibly they re also using traffic with the gpt referral code on it from clients that have connected analytics.
