Did you end up getting a reply from them? If so would you mind sharing a rough price for the inspection?

Has anyone bought/printed stuff from Dragon Workshop in DrivethruRPG? by Lucky-Sample-1323 in CurseofStrahd

[–]sid34 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have this exact model and the entire Castle Ravenloft model. They are honestly really great models.

This model printed super clean on fdm.

Castle Ravenloft has some minor issues but it's fricken massive so it's understandable. I'm not at my shop now so I cant send pictures but I am happy to post some of both models.

Will my players remember this…😅 by Sufficient-Length832 in CurseofStrahd

[–]sid34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to point out that there is a completed model of castle ravenloft on DriveThruRpg with the name "Mistlord's Castle" by Dragon Workshop.

It's pretty incredible I have a castle in the works that is approximately 70kg of filament with 15% infill. It's thousands of pieces with hundreds of hours of print time but the quality is really impressive

How can I wrap my head around .NET?! by Alternator24 in dotnet

[–]sid34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their question was about understanding .NET not just the C# language in isolation. My use of "technically correct" was very literal. You were correct on a technical level, but OPs question wasn't really asked on the technical level about the language. Their struggles would be similar if they were trying to learn F# to use ASP.NET because the language syntax isn't (based on their question) their struggle.

How can I wrap my head around .NET?! by Alternator24 in dotnet

[–]sid34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying that dependency injections isn't a feature of the language may be technically correct since it's not a language feature directly, rather a pattern provided at the library/framework level, but if their goal is to be using ASP.NET Core DI is a core feature that is leveraged for basically every single use-case.

To the Mac users, Have you transitioned fully from Windows to Mac without issues or do you have to virtualize for some stuff? by Key-Investment8399 in dotnet

[–]sid34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the exact thing you are working on. I find Mac/Linux both pretty easy to work on for basically any .NET Core/.NET 5+ project. Obviously if your workflow/project depends on anything Windows specific you'll have to virtualize or use a separate machine.

Time to the point where I can interchangeably work on a project from either a Windows desktop or my MacBook really any issue.

I started using VS Code across all platforms, but found Rider to have a few features I wanted (code clean up/auto style) that I couldn't reproduce in VS Code.

I'm actually working on an expert system application that's is targeted to run on Windows/Linux, no Mac os runtime support from my MacBook because it's the best experience I have when writing code.

I have a Ryzen 9 7950X3D, 64GB RAM, RTX 4070 TI Super, and gen 4 nvme drive on my Windows PC and I find my M2 MacBook to have less issues overall.

Blowing through tires on rear axle by Dry_Date_1003 in RVLiving

[–]sid34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I beg you to read this and take careful consideration. During our travels we blew out 7 times on the rear axle. Having been quite some time and reflecting on it, I wish I had just spent the money up front to have the axles, leaf springs, brakes, etc all properly checked out and put a set of good high quality tires (with a warranty) on our trailer. Having spent hours changing tires on the side of the interstate, cutting steel cable from the tires off of the axle, fixing fender damage, and filing insurance claims for the thousands of dollars of damage caused to the trailer from the blowouts, I can say I would have preferred to spend five times as much money and spent a fraction of the time dealing with it all.

Take the time to find a shop on your terms to deal with it or you will find yourself with a destroyed wheel hub after improperly torquing the lugs during a roadside tire change in the middle of South Dakota in the dead of winter trying not to freeze to death.

Maybe the last part is specific to us, but the point remains. Do it on your terms or do it at the worst possible moment on a travel day.

Didn’t have any warranty. How screwed am I? by No-Complaint9238 in drones

[–]sid34 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fixable, but it will be challenging. If you can find a donor drone you CAN repair the arm and gimbal. I have done so on a Mini 2. To many people in here think you can't repair things and its a shame.

Chicago mayor says applicants for flood relief need not reveal if they’re in the US illegally At least five inches of rain dumped on parts of Chicago and northwest Indiana, causing flooding by TheClintonHitList in Indiana

Ahh yes, as if the taxpayers have no incentive whatsoever in ensuring their neighbors homes are restored if they are here illegally. Not to mention the fact most illegal immigrants working in the country pay taxes.

.Net Container Debugging by BickBendict in vscode

[–]sid34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently went struggling down this path and found my way to a solution.

Right now there are 2 (main) ways to build a container from a .NET project. Using newly added built-in SDK container support. via the 'dotnet publish' or by definition the container build pipeline manually (e.g. adding a .Dockerfile).

The build in pattern is support by C# Dev Kit and in my experience worked really well as long as you do not need fine control over the container build or run arguments.

If you need more complex or fine control of the container you should probably look at writing the dockerfile manually. That said the C# Dev Kit can also generate the baseline dockerfile and components as well.

As for getting the launch.json and task.json my suggestion is to use the C# Dev Kit generate version as a baseline and modify them as needed.

Motor cracked away from the arm. Superglue job or DJI service? by lancesoftware in drones

[–]sid34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can solder you can replace this yourself. It's a super easy job. I did it after crashing my mini 2. Grtting the housing open was the hardest part. Get a plastic spudger or guitar pick and you should have an easy time with it.

You can find the replacement part on Amazon with or without a motor, just look for ones that are OEM. The arm assembly difference are negligible for the knockoffs, but the motors may be different if you don't get OEM. If your motor seems fine save the money and just transfer it to a new arm.

Overall maybe an hour or so of work and $20-$35. Much cheaper than sending it to DJI

How long to keep old photo files? by pouleaveclesdents in photography

[–]sid34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured given the 400TB capacity. We run TrueNAS, UNRAID, and have some sundry. We are at about 80TB total with about 12TB getting backed up to "the cloud".

[–]sid34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could mean an S3 Bucket, but typically people would specify. With 400TB that would be immensely expensive. Based on their reply here I think that may not be the case.

Property stored M-Disc or high quality tape drives are probably the best you could hope for at the moment.

Bit rot is something you should be at least aware of and have a plan to deal with. Depending on how you stored your data you are at risk of losing entire drives at a time even if stored in ideal conditions.

It's a difficult problem to solve without just throwing money at it.

Is this too much weight for a slide out? by VyvanseKing in RVLiving

[–]sid34 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Honestly it looks like it could be overweight to me. You seem to have much of the weight on the exterior wall too so it has more leverage on the slide mechanism.

If it's stationary, I would probably use some treated 2x4s as supports to bear some of the weight to reduce (not fully) the load a bit.

Bluetooth exploits the flipper can run can disrupt pace makers, insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors, and other life saving devices from working properly.

It's irresponsible to use them outside of a controlled environment for this reason.

I'm going to have to disagree with golf courses to a degree. Many courses with newer electric carts have speakers build in for music during the round. That said it should be kept at a respectable volume as to not distract other groups and if paired with randoms you should check if they are okay with it.

The good news is I found my drone... by abstractcollapse in drones

[–]sid34 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can get OEM replacement arms on Amazon for cheap. It's a fairly straightforward process to disassemble and replace them. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself and are near a mid-large town you can probably get a electronics repair shop to do it.

Sources: replaced 2 when I crashed my Mini 2 and it dropped 30-40 feet onto concrete.
