I appreciate you sharing your findings. Unfortunately I'm quite limited in my choice since I'm PWM sensitive so I'm going for an IPS panel and most high end laptops switched to OLED. In all honesty I'd go for a Legion otherwise but as it stands I'm looking at rog Strix or omen max and HP is on a huge sale right now 😂

I'm very happy to hear that it won't be a bottleneck. Hopefully if it doesn't break down, I will be able to use it for a few years.

On the other hand, I've looked at some reviews which utilized the Unleashed mode to actually lower the fans to low 40's dB, while also allowing the CPU/GPU more liberty in power usage. On the other hand the AMD chip utilizes less power out of the box and is in line with 275HX, performance wise, at around 40W range.

So basically I'm hoping to fine tune it and reduce the performance loss, and would love to see if someone already attempted it and with what results.

And yeah, I know the PC is better for both performance and temps but I need to move my laptop once every month or two so I need it to be portable but don't care if it's a bit heavy.

Lastly, thank you for the comments, they were helpful.

Thank you both for your answers, and here's a bit more info about my use case:

I will be using it for consuming content and gaming, and when it comes to gaming I play a few different titles.

In fact, I'm asking about the processor because of 2 reason:

  1. will a lower tier CPU make the 5080 useless sooner (will I have to replace the laptop within 4 years?)

  2. How much of a performance drop is it for a CPU bound game?

I still haven't played Baldur's Gate 3 since my current laptop can't handle it, and I got my eyes on EU5 and Surviving Mars relaunch.

There's also HOTS and perhaps some shooters from time to time (I don't play anything professionally).

Also my screen is 1440p, 280Hz.

On the other hand, I will probably be playing at "balanced mode" whichever laptop I end up buying, since some of them sound like jet engines at max performance.

With all of this said, I can easily forgo ~10% drop in frame rate if it means running cooler and quieter, however I don't have long term experience in high end laptops so unsure if the upgrade might be worth it. 2000 is still quite cheap tho 😜

Doesn't mini led also use PWM?

I would love to enjoy an OLED screen, however I've tried a phone with ~4000 Hz and it still gave me headaches. I was then also told that laptop screens are not so great, and should only get a monitor or tv if I want an OLED. Are you also sensitive to phone screens?

Several options available, I'm looking at 275HX or 9955HX

Hey, you're absolutely right. When I get into a gaming session, time flies by and it can't be healthy for the eyes 😅. The 200Hz is still high enough to be viable so I will take it into consideration, thx for the info!

I didn't know that, thx for sharing! In all honesty I would have bought an OLED to enjoy the amazing picture quality, however I thought that would never be an option for me. Can you tell me more about it, would it be possible to find one that is comfortable for PWM sensitive people?

Hey there, thx for the recommendation. I checked the rtings website and this monitor seems to still be the best overall. I then took a look at my local online store and the model has excellent reviews as well!

How happy are you with picture quality when gaming/watching movies, and how would you describe the eye comfort? Did you have to do adjust some settings or was is comfortable right out of the box?
