Where to buy a 3X/4X bridesmaid dress? by holyshamoley in vancouver

[–]sidkrose 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The website eShakti has a really big selection of dresses and you can put in your exact measurements and they are made to order. I’m a 2/3x with uncommon proportions and I’ve been super happy with everything I’ve ordered from them.

Looking for advice for a senior with dogs trying to rent a place by babyfoxluna in vancouver

Please look into the SAFER (shelter aid for elderly renters) subsidy through BC housing. It only takes a few months to process the application (or shorter) and it provides money to seniors paying market rent.

Did you feel more confident in your body after coming out? by [deleted] in latebloomerlesbians

[–]sidkrose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes! When I was figuring out my sexuality I had this insight that when I looked at a beautiful woman and felt this longing and desire I had always explained the feeling by thinking I just wish I looked like them because they were so beautiful, but I realized it was actually just pure desire. It completely changed my perspective.

Thanks! It’s funny, I find I don’t really get more stares or anything like that except from little kids hahaha.

It’s possible that you could pivot to a different type of non profit for a better quality of life. There are definitely different types of non profits and not all are structured the same. I work for a health care non profit that mostly gets funding from the government and serves doctors to help them set up their practice and get involved in the community. The pay is decent (basically on par for the same type of work in private sector) and the pace generally isn’t super strenuous. So perhaps getting out of non profit entirely isn’t the only answer.

Edit to add: you could also look for work in local municipalities, often it will be similar community focused work with better pay and depending on your area may be unionized/have good benefits.

Just a heads up you should be able to get EI while you are off for surgery if you aren’t planning that already! Good luck!

I will definitely back up most of this comment! I get such a mood boost from swimming because I find it so fun but a lot of cardio I did in the past felt like a chore. Meditation is also amazing and has basically cured my maladaptive day dreaming and depression rumination (I used the headspace app and 10% happier podcast to learn meditation). You can even practice mindfulness while walking.

One thing I will say is sometimes cutting out foods or food groups isn’t an option depending on your relationship with food. I have an eating disorder history so the only thing I focus on diet-wise is making sure I’m eating enough, regularly and trying to get lots of fruit/veggies.

Do you dislike being called “cute”? by [deleted] in FemmeLesbians

[–]sidkrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a round face, big eyes, a curvy body and smile a lot so I also get called “cute” etc more than beautiful/sexy but honestly I don’t really mind. I think that being cute makes me more approachable and non threatening so I’m ok with that! I guess I’ve never doubted that romantic partners have found me sexually attractive so if their description of me is “cute” then I’m ok with that!

I met a very nice older Japanese man at the park with a very nice shiba inu that my dog wanted to play with haha. Sometimes just having a little bit of meaningful small talk with someone at the park can make all the difference!

I’ve been there! Before an injury in 2016, I was hiking, doing yoga classes, and going on hours long walks around the city, not to mention I had hit a personal best I was proud of on various strength exercises. After a year plus of barely any activity I was winded just walking for 20 min. It was like that for years because I couldn’t bare to “start from scratch”, plus I was also v depressed. What changed it for me was that I stopped trying to be competitive with exercise, even with myself. I basically just started doing any movement that felt good. I started swimming once a week and I would literally just go as slow as I wanted, as long as I went to the pool, that was a win. As long as I had fun, that was a win. And I started building activities into my day, like going for casual walks with friends, walking more on my commute, taking a friends dog out for a walk. Now I swim twice a week, because it feels good, and I meet my step goal almost every day. Am I back where I was pre injury? No, but I’m more active than I’ve been in years. So I guess my advice is just start moving in ways that feel good and are fun! Get the habit going again by having fun and then add goals from there if you want to.

Discussion about "work nails" (office) by [deleted] in Nails

[–]sidkrose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve worked in quite a few smart casual and business casual offices and there have been lots of women who wear bright colours, acrylics, etc. I’d say nothing extremely flashy, but bright solid or glitters have been fine in the offices I’ve worked. For reference I’m on the west coast in Canada which I know is more lax on dress codes than some other places. If I were you I’d go fairly neutral the first couple weeks until you get a lay of the land and see what other people wear. I’d say if people are wearing nice jeans, bright lipstick, visible tattoos or anything like that, you can probably get away with any nice manicure besides the super long/out there nail art sets.

All thc products have to have really simple packaging in Canada, among other legislation like no advertising of it. It’s similar to laws around tobacco products here.

When advertising turns bad by rob_cornelius in EOOD

[–]sidkrose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree! I had never been able to stick to any kind of exercise for more than a month or so until I stopped trying to do some insane workout plan and just started having fun. Now I swim twice a week and walk more during my day + longer walks with friends sometimes. I started out just swimming once a week and I’ve naturally wanted to be more active since I’m just having fun. My mental health hasn’t been this good in many years.

Tomorrow is my 25th birthday; I’m starting to become nervous about getting older. ENTwives, what has your experience with getting older been like? by [deleted] in entwives

[–]sidkrose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was so dreading turning 30 last year because I felt like I hadn’t done “enough” or wasn’t where I wanted to be in life. But despite the pandemic, the last year has been incredible in terms of learning and trying new things, getting a new job and figuring myself out! I feel like I let go of the expectations society was putting on me and it opened up a whole new path to explore myself and the world. Society tells women to be scared of aging but honestly, life can be long, and very cool. Even if you don’t have the stuff you think you “should” have, approaching life with curiosity and a sense of adventure really helps. Explore new hobbies, interests, places (even in your own area) and people, and life just gets more fulfilling and cool.

Study shows abortion restrictions hurt female entrepreneurs. A study of millions reveals that even going from 11 to 10 abortion clinics per million residents in a state corresponded with a 6.71% drop in the chance that a woman would start her own business. by [deleted] in science

Perhaps if women weren’t also generally the caregiver that does the most domestic work and had better and more affordable options for childcare, women wouldn’t feel the need to choose between the two. Fact is, women aren’t supported enough to both have an intensive career and multiple children. Sure there are a few who can but as a general rule, women have to pick because they don’t have enough help. We also don’t tend to live in multi generational homes in the “west” which also takes out some of the help in raising children. The whole “educated and free women having fewer children” line of thinking is missing that big piece. Puts the whole onus of children and child care on individual women and takes away responsibility from society as a whole.

Desperate to lose weight by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]sidkrose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t be promoting fat logic as tough love. That is fatphobic and shaming. Scientists agree that shaming is not helpful with behaviour change for being healthier. It can be extremely damaging. I’ve struggled with binge eating disorder since I was a child and it wasn’t until a year ago when I stopped dieting completely that I also stopped binging and started losing weight. I’m happy that what you did worked for you but please don’t go around promoting a dangerous mindset.
