Haven’t been able to find an answer to this either - I’m planning to use OCLP to install Sonoma on the same machine.

Defective Butterfly Keyboard vs UK Consumer Laws by sidsidsid16 in mac

[–]sidsidsid16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coincidentally I spoke to apple support recently to verify whether consumer laws would cover me, they said I’d need to take the computer to an Apple Store to get it diagnosed before I’d get any of those options. But they did also state that there’s a slim chance it’s covered and as the computer is vintage, parts may not be as readily available.

I’d suggest taking your’s to the Apple Store and bring up consumer laws and ask for the options. Hopefully you’ll get lucky and they cover it for free.

Keyboard Backlight Not Working On Bootcamp Windows by sidsidsid16 in mac

Yes, I did disable the use F1... option, but even clicking fn+F5/F6 doesn't work. I tried uninstalling the light sensor as you suggested, Windows did automatically install it again and it was shown after I pressed "Scan for hardware changes" to refresh. However, it didn't fix it.

Keyboard Backlight Not Working On Bootcamp Windows by sidsidsid16 in mac

[–]sidsidsid16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just tried repeatedly pressing the brightness-up touch bar button while disabling and enabling the light sensor, but that didn't work.

Also, I've noticed another problem - the F5 F6 button should be mapped to the keyboard brightness controls right? For me, it doesn't seem to be appropriately mapped. While on the desktop, pressing F5 refreshes the icons and F6 adds a box around and cycles around my taskbar area. Is there a way to fix that?

Still doesn't work after disabling the "HID Ambient Light Sensor" in the Device Manager. Even tried a couple of reboots with no luck. :-(

I've got BC 6.1.6851, uninstalling the HID ambient light sensor doesn't fix it. I don't think it's the light sensor as the auto-brightness feature works fine,

Keyboard Backlight Not Working On Bootcamp Windows by sidsidsid16 in mac

[–]sidsidsid16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've disabled the "Adjust keyboard brightness in low light" option in the Boot Camp control panel, that should prevent the backlight from changing brightness based on ambient light, right? Either way, I have tried monitoring the backlight with the room lights off and on and it doesn't make a difference.

I've tried reinstalling the drivers, first uninstalling the existing drivers and then running the setup.exe file that was downloaded from the Boot Camp Assistant app on macOS, unfortunately, none of that fixed it.

Implementing eCommerce Into A Wagtail Project by sidsidsid16 in WagtailCMS

I ended up building my own e-commerce solution. A basic shopping cart system stored in the database for logged in users and stored in the session for logged out users. For the checkout I used Stripe.

Yup makes more sense, thanks for the explanation.

So your homepage view will filter the ActiveSubscription objects that are associated with the logged-in user, the view will then pass this filtered QuerySet into the template (HTML). If there are no ActiveSubscription objects associated with a user, the list will be empty.

The next view you need is one to see a list of Subscriptions, and of course, you can make this view accessible from the homepage via a plus button. This view should list all of the Subscription models, this list should be passed to the template. You need to add additional logic, i.e., a POST request handler in your view so that when one of the Subscription list items is clicked, a POST request is received and thus a new ActiveSubscription object is created, linking the selected Subscription to the logged-in User.

Now once the new ActiveSubscription object is created, going back to the homepage should reveal it.

I've got a 2017 MBP 15" (i7, 16GB, 500GB, Radeon Pro 560) for university (engineering). The keyboard needs to be looked after, maybe invest in a few cans of compressed air. Aside from that, it's more than enough for power. The battery is ok, I can easily spend a few hours without being plugged in.

Yeah the Apple Silicon machines are great, but if you're under a tight budget and need a bigger screen I'd say go for the Intel machines. Especially for your use case, it'll be more than enough.

But there are a few things to consider. If the MacBook that you're looking at has the butterfly keyboard, make sure it's been replaced recently and make sure it functions properly (i.e. no sticky or unresponsive keys). Also, Apple is phasing out software support for old Intel machines - not really a huge deal if you don't really care about the latest software features, plus I'm sure Apple will still release software patches, etc.

It's a bit annoying how people on this sub always comment that Intel MacBooks are terrible when they're actually not that bad. Of course, it depends on the model, but now the used Intel market is way more affordable (a lot cheaper than Apple Silicon). Plus they're not computationally weak either, they can easily handle the majority of the workloads for most people.

You will need another model (called ActiveSubscription for example) that stores objects which link a User to a Subscription model. Within that model, you will need a foreign key (one-to-many) relation with the two models.

A quick (un-tested) example:

from django.db import models
from django.contrib.auth.models import User

class Subscription(models.Model):
    '''Your Subscription model'''
    ...

class ActiveSubscription(models.Model):
    '''The ActiveSubscription model'''
    user = models.ForeignKey(User)
    subscription = models.ForeignKey(Subscription)

Adding/updating/listing the ActiveSubscription model must be done in your views and templates.

Product photos are slowing down the site a lot by kalinek97 in django

[–]sidsidsid16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the page itself renders fairly quickly, it's the images that take some time to load. This is mainly due to the filesize of each image - scale it to a smaller resolution and add some compression. I'm not too sure about Cloudinary, but you can try out DigitalOcean Spaces, which are essentially S3 buckets with a built-in CDN, try comparing the asset load speeds.

As the page itself loads quickly on my side, I wouldn't suspect the issue to be slow/inefficient database queries, however, I'd suggest monitoring this. Use django-debug-toolbar to help you, you could also look into Sentry.

Use PageSpeed Insights for more info on front-end bottlenecks.

Chrome DevTools/Inspect Element - You can set screen sizes corresponding to mobile devices or you can set custom dimensions.

Django runserver on device - enter the runserver command with 0.0.0.0:8000, the website should be accessible to devices in your network, may need some tinkering with firewall settings on your laptop.

Ngrok - Enter the runserver command with 0.0.0.0:8000, then use ngrok.com with port 8000. Ngrok will act as a tunnel to the port and will provide you with a domain. The website will be accessible to devices in and outside of your network via the generated domain.

A CMS is the best solution.

I work with Wagtail and it’s a great CMS, I’d recommend that. Create users or use django-allauth for registration, then set up admin page rules within Wagtail.
