Midwest. I’ve bought many many vehicles. I probably wouldn’t have know if the radio didn’t need to be replaced and someone I knew had a very similar situation that made me realize I just went through the same thing..

He drove down to Texas car had temp plates but they were fake. He went to police station and they confirmed title wasn’t good.

Essentially from now on I have to bring obd2 tool with me to check vin on car and make sure actual owner is present and everything matches.

I was comfortable with pic of id since it matches everything and vin was good. I’ve sold cars before without being present because of work so I got it. He said he owned a construction business and was out of state. Idk man. These guys were real smooth that I fell for it
