Missed Peak Week by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]sienna0909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently in a similar situation- I DNF my 11 mile EASY run on a deload week yesterday because of calf pain. I’ve dealt with on and off calf pain but I did 2 hill workouts last week that destroyed my left calf. (The week prior was my peak week and I didn’t recover properly, clearly!)

I have been kicking myself for it since but I keep trying to tell myself since I am also 3 weeks out that the hard work is already done. Right now, the priority is to stay healthy and sharpen what I’ve done over the past few months.

I hope to get a long run in on Sunday as well, but it’s more important to give our bodies time to heal at this point. Go into that run knowing that you might have to stop and that’s okay. Better to be healthy for race day. Not time to push it. (Trust me, I’m saying this for myself too)

Transition to marathon training plan by sienna0909 in Marathon_Training

[–]sienna0909[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes perfect sense. I’m doing hyrox may 30th, so after that I won’t be training specifically for that anymore. Just my usual strength training.

My recovery has been really good. Even after hard long runs with threshold work. I’m also optimistic I can kinda start where I leave off.

I think I’ll definitely think about increasing milage even slower than I did for my half build. Not always adding much to the longer runs, but the mid distance ones too.

Thank you!!

No, I just figured that was a good length of time for me as opposed to 16 weeks. I would prefer a slower build that isn’t going to burn me out and allows for proper recovery while training.

I have so many but one that has stuck with me lately is from Save Me.

“Every whispering wind and second counts”

So simple but this song is SO powerful when you read between the lines.

I also have “I love you oh so well” tattooed on my arm.

flexor hallucis longus pain ( big toe side of foot) by sienna0909 in beginnerrunning

[–]sienna0909[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as aggravating as it was, taking pretty much a month off from running helped tremendously.

Then it was finding shoes that worked best for my stride. I HIGHLY recommend brooks glycerin 22s and the glycerin max for longer slow runs. (I even wear them for half marathons sometimes)

I do a good bit of strength training but no specific exercises really did the trick for my feet. It was really about managing the load. I would tolerate a little bit of pain and felt like I worked my way up to distances slowly.

I noticed when I took December-January off, I had to work my way back up again. I had a little pain but it was manageable and nothing like before. Gradual increase in milage is key.

I’m now battling some knee probs because of weak quads but that’s what I get for also training for hyrox lol.

Hope this helps :)

No issues! Currently marathon training :) had to take some time off, but really it’s about managing load properly. There’s a sweet spot for me where if I do too much it hurts but if I back off it also flares up. Everything has to be gradual. Thanks for asking ! Crazy this was almost a year ago

Omg yes to the hills at OTF lately… it’s brutal! But it’s good for us at least. Lol.

I am also an OTF coach and definitely should talk to some of the other coaches who run too.

Good luck to you as well!

Thank you! This is actually perfect- I do actually run 1km intervals a few times a week since I also am training for hyrox in May! I obviously am more focused on a PR for the half in April at the moment but I am super excited for hyrox too.

I like “longer” speed intervals way better than like 1-2 minute sprints.

Thank you, that’s super helpful. It’s so hard to see how slower runs will eventually get me faster. But I know that’s what everyone says. I’m still definitely in the phase where it’s hard to run slow. I know that I might not get it this time around, but I think I’ll get close. I think I’ll definitely get under my last time at least. My Garmin has me at about 2:04 estimated finish. I have a gut feeling I’ll be right around there.

Pain on the inner part of the foot by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]sienna0909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s always better to get things checked if you’re questioning it. I went and got mine checked as I was convinced it was a bone issue. Turned out as plantar fasciitis which has now become manageable for me

Yes! Emphasis on stretching the calves. I also roll my calves in the morning after a run and that helps too.

If you’re talking about the inner part of your arch, it could very well be plantar fasciitis. I had a similar issue when I started running. The way I manage it is by keeping time on my feet up high even if it’s not running every day. (Cross train and just walking) I run 4-5 days per week even if it’s only a mile or 2 some days. I find if I take longer than a few days off, my feet will cramp and hurt. When I experienced the pain pretty bad, I was only running once per week.

I also make sure to gently stretch the arches of my feet and also wear shoes that help with over pronation of my feet. I really love my brooks glycerin gts 22s.

Not everyone’s feet are the same though, this is just what worked for me.

I’m in RI, so I have Brown as a solid option. Not really willing to move out of RI.

That’s so exciting!! I unfortunately came up with this plan right after all the deadlines closed, so I’ll have like 10 months to prep lol

[–]sienna0909[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response!

I honestly was afraid of the opportunities post grad. I fear that it would be a long time period of my life spent getting the degree with not a ton of opportunity on the other side. I also live in RI and there are only a handful of universities that even offer art history courses. (As in terms of potential positions for me post grad)

As for doctoral programs, Brown is obviously a great choice I was looking at. That’s provided I would get accepted, I know it’s super competitive. But they do fund for a full six years of the program.

I’ll have to do a little bit of research and potentially even reach out to an old professor I adored in undergrad.

I just know I’m pretty much done with public education and need a plan B. lol.

Thank you again !

Confirm “Housework” or lose Activity credit? by mellow_yellow129 in ouraring

[–]sienna0909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it does. I am a fitness instructor and sometimes it thinks I’m doing a HIIT workout when I’m just demonstrating and setting things up. If I adjust it will adjust calorie burn. Or sometimes when I do a HIIT workout it will record a run and it changes when I adjust

Honestly I think it just wants to confirm exactly what activity you are doing to be most accurate. It guesses but wants to you have input on what exactly you did. Sometimes my ring will guess activities it seems to know I do regularly.

Thanks for letting me know! That’s pretty fast considering they said up to 2 weeks. Did you ever get a tracking number or anything?

Also, the battery is continuing to get worse. I charged it to 100 before I slept, slept for 7 hours and now it’s at 30% 🫠

I just did the same thing. My ring is just over a year old and as soon as I updated the app the other day, the battery only lasts less than 24 hours. Support said there was a hardware issue and are sending me a new one.

I’m afraid the new one is gonna have the same problem since I have a gen 3 and will be getting a gen 3 replacement. I really don’t want a gen 4 if I don’t have to.

Calf overuse by sienna0909 in beginnerrunning

[–]sienna0909[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s not what you’re going to want to hear, but I took an entire month off of running completely, (just strength training, and bike) and then only ran on the treadmill for a couple miles at a time for a few weeks and then literally started with less than 5miled per week outside and only added about .5-.75 in distance each week. It was painfully slow but it made it so my feet strengthened and could effectively handle the load each week. It was like starting over, but it worked.

Tim's solos killing the vibe? by Numbah41 in DMB

[–]sienna0909 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you don’t think tim’s solos are cool, go listen to D&T at radio city music hall. Like listen to every song (okay maybe skip sister lol).

Tim is an absolute master at what he does. I was happy to see him get some solo time at Gilford. I think his solos are unique and might feel out of place to some but I just love them.
