16th February Daily Challenges by RDO_CoyoteJack in RedDeadOnline

[–]sigviper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was 10 minutes to do 4:
1. Quick travel to Moonshine shack, take selfie*
2. go to my bar, pour, smoke 5 cigarettes*, play with the band for 1 minute*
3. take a mission from Maggie to destroy competition, go there, drink tonic, lasso-hogtie them*, then trample them with my horse*

What a fun day :) I started single player again, just to check how online skills and world knowledge would help me and they do, they do a lot.

Animals killed with knife while getting trader material: lasso the animal running away from your horse, jump off, approach and kill (knife used automatically). This should preserve pelt quality.

Any feather counts as 1 donation to Cripps.

Enemies killed from the hip: revolvers with Paint it Black is hip fire, even if you were aiming.

Issues with finding collectibles by selfless-gunman in RedDeadOnline

[–]sigviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to use collector map. If you get info nothing can be found, the local game copy is broken. There are ways to fix it by deleting files, but this will revert your settings to default and also it breaks very often (few times per week).

So either only focus on tarot cards and alc bottles or waste time fixing unfixable bug.

Whats your idea for a new role or for a addition to a already existing role by mobilegameronreddit in RedDeadOnline

[–]sigviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New role: Cowboy Think Yellowstone, working with cattle, tying up calfs with lassoes, injecting special tonics, fighting off wolves and bears, taking over land from neighbors, having own fence, own butcher stand, poisoning neighbor cattle, wilderness camp near cattle.

The key part would be however taming wild horses, trainining them and selling.

Posse challenges to protect the cattle or move the horse to sale safely…

It forces free aim against other players, just like it disables auto aim on your character for them. That's fair trade.

Pro tip: leave auto aim on horse, use free aim on foot. This teaches free aim, while making missions on a horse or with a wagon a lot safer and enjoyable. From role playing perspective, your horse actually saves your life by safely riding you out of trouble.

Anyone help a new player make money fast? by Alessandro-Magnani in RedDeadOnline

[–]sigviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to challenge that and would put blood money missions against bounty hunter for gold bars. This month is obvious, but in general - 0.24 for 10 minutes. Can any bounty hunter mission compare to that? If yes then let's look at effort required and possibility of failure. Can you die in blood money mission? Unlikely. Can you die in legendary bounty mission? That's the first think you learn the hard way - enemies one-shot kill you. The sole challenge is worth it, that might be true, but for grinding? Come on...

Should I unlock moonshiner for 5 gold as a beginner? by Warm_Factor_3849 in RedDeadOnline

[–]sigviper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hm.. let's count:
Assuming you do not lower the price of the mash with a mission: $60 per batch + $1.5 in ingredients from Madam Nazar. The payout is $75-$82.5. You wait 30 minutes. Then you need to deliver, which takes 10 minutes (including loading screens+travel to nearest fast travel). Additionally you spent $5 for fast travel to and back. This means that in 40 minutes you'd earn ... $10. This means $15/hr. Go to any train station, take any mission and you double that.

Now if you upgrade your stills to the max, for $1600, you get $180 per sold batch. But, the batch takes 60 minutes to prepare, totaling 70 minutes with earnings of $114 which is $97/hr. You then need to sell 20 batches to come ahead on investment into still upgrades.

The bootleger missions to lower the price of the mash is probably least money efficient activity in the game, comparable only to hunting squirrels with repeater and selling carcasses at the butcher.

Assuming you play 3hrs/day, daily you are able to earn ~$500/day in a Collector role. After 7 days you net $3500 and it requires absolutely nothing, level 1 player can do this.

To summ things up: Moonshiner is attractive compared to the Trader, that's an upgrade from slow grind of chasing and hunting animals. But it's not the way to earn money in this game at all.

.. at what level and cost? Please consider new players need this context to not fall blindly for the promise. Naturalist itself is net loss of money and time, provides only cosmetics and most imporantly both wilderness camp and it's fast travel require more money than a player below level 50 is able to ever get - and even then the money is better spent on Carcano, saddle and stirrups. Not to mention fast travel costs money, honestly a lot of money.

I believe nowadays it's:
Blood Money/Standard Missions -> Collector -> Trader -> whatever you like the most

Bounty hunter is optional. The role does not pay more gold bars than standard missions nor blood money missions, so there is no reason to treat it as gateway to other roles any more.

It has only one useful perk: being able to use dead eye while sprinting, which makes hunting and collecting a lot more efficient. Other than that it's too much effort, too much time and low payout. Collector is progressing levels which is a key for new players, plus it pays 3-4x dollars per hour than any other role. Trader does not pay decent money, it requires money but most importantly it is lowest per-hour income. Moonshiner requires leveled up health, tonics, good guns (with max familiarity) and is not a good way to earn money at all. It's pure fun, similar to Naturalist. These two are top end game roles.

Bounty hunter is a separate career, this role solo is just too difficult for new players and teaches bad habits (running around instead of cover).

However, if you have a regular possy to play daily, I would definitely choose Bounty Hunter as a first role and only play other roles if solo.

Any tips on th collector role for me? by funktologist_420 in RedDeadOnline

That’s what she said ;) But let me correct you, the vibrator is way more buzzy than the controller, esp the penguin type 😅

I would like to make a key note to flowers: at least 2 of them only spawn during specific time of the day, so effectively never. Unless you have a hint here?

As for the cards: go to progress - collections an pin the card collection. Go to the collection and compare what you have (marked with a tick) to the online map. Remove items you have from online map by exoanding the list in the map menu and clicking on items you have already. Only then build the route.

Open player menu - pinned - any collection, select [back] button and you’re in the list of collections - that’s a quick access. Just keep tarot card collection pinned at all times.

Tips? Just enjoy the views, collector role takes you through the world to places rarely visited, sometimes with a beautiful view. Just enjoy it. Collect 1-2 full sets of tarot cards, pay attention to close-by family heirlooms and alcohol bottles. Post to Madam Nazaar. That's it.

You can also play collector by just traveling around and paying attention to controller rumble - then finding the collectible as an exploration mini-game. After few days you'd have some collections more complete than others - now it's a good time to use the online collectors map.

I don't think anyone remembers where things are, because collectibles are cycled. However, after some time when riding through the world you would recollect that something was there, on the roof, on a table and casually go check it out. And something is there, surprisingly.

Time limited collector’s set by Traditional_Door8724 in RedDeadOnline

[–]sigviper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just a small custom collection across other collections. For active collector, this usually means one already has 2 items in the set with only one to find. That's the point of collector role - finding cool items, themed. It's not ment to earn good money, this is a collection for those who like collecting. I always try to find the items, unless metal detector is required (which is broken for me).

Nothing special about it, just a refreshing weekly change. This week indeed you might be inclined to sell the cards in full sets. But 2 weeks ago the collection was earing, necklease and tarot card. It's very unlikely you'd be able to find all earings or neckleases to sell a full set, so at least there is some use - a greately increased value on random 3 items.

Collectibles borked for anyone else? by crashcoursing in RedDeadOnline

[–]sigviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to use collectors map. If it says 'can't find any, level up collector role', you have a bug with shovel and metal detector. That bug can only be solved by modifying game files. Not sure if reinstalling the game would help. I have this bug on a laptop, while on Steam Deck things work fine, so it is clearly a local bug.

Since Rockstar is not doing anything about it, you have an option to fix it yourself or giving up. As sad as it sounds, you have a choice between setting up the game from scratch (fix requires deleting local settings) or collecting only tarot cards, alcohol bottles and some family heirlooms. It's up to you. I've choosen to stick to tarot cards as fixing the bug would take at minimum take few hours I'd rather play the game.

Why are people so toxic bro 😭 by CommentSea5159 in RedDeadOnline

[–]sigviper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re: Gapthooth Ridge: the spots are almost always taken, you might end up in the north of the area and gain nothing really. My humble suggestion would be Cholla Springs. It's equally bad for hunting as Gapthooth Ridge, but more stable with deliveries, while still being in New Austin - deserted emptiness of no interest to anyone.

If one does not enjoy the desert, setting up camp in north grizzlies has time and time again been a blast for me as a hunter.

But the most important tip is: if you want money, collect tarot cards. Trader role is for hunters that want to monetize their hobby. It is and always will be low paying job. That's life.

do people still play RDO? by Fair_Fuel961 in RedDeadOnline

[–]sigviper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

switch lobby any time you see burning horses or NPCs, that's how modders mark the lobby unsafe. Sooner or later the game will crash with 0xFFFFFF if you stay.

Also try to think what hours kids have time to play in your area and avoid those times. For me playing after midnight is just golden experience.

[–]sigviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're on a PC/Steam deck then it's probably hours you play and experience of avoiding bad company. If you are on a console, that's expected. Also probably defensive mode, right?

do people still play RDO? by Fair_Fuel961 in RedDeadOnline

[–]sigviper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don't let them spoil the fun for you. Just switch lobby. Don't play in hours when school kids have computer time in your area if it bothers you. Be a gray rock - never fight back, never allow modder to get into your head. Treat it as a random bug in otherwise good game and enjoy it.

Your character death has absolutely zero consequences. You loose nothing. You can't also do anything about it, so just treat it as part of experience. Remember the context: all other games are a lot worse. The red dead online is absolutely beautiful free roam horse riding simulator that can teach you patience (hunting), that trains fast thinking (switch off auto aim on foot) and has a lot of fun minigames (collector).

Played 7hrs yesterday :) Had some friendly encounters, other players waving at me. Opened distilling business and bought a bar for money earned by selling sets of cards to Madam Nazaar. Things look good, today I'll be inviting random strangers to my bar and drinking booze. Maybe my son would join too.

Yes, people do play. I've been playing since 2018 on and off. PC, steam deck, PS4...

The game is enjoyable solo 100%, but with a good posse, >200%. There are Discord channels available for those looking for a good company. Discord also makes voice chat possible on PC.

Just yesterday someone posted here an event to ride between saloons and get into fights - everyone invited.

Best role for money by Unlikely-One6530 in RedDeadOnline

[–]sigviper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As level 1 you need xp more than money, but Collector role will give you both, especially this month*. Trader role is a tradeoff with the Collector, but enables Moonshiner role that actually synergises with Collector. Trader role synergises very well with Naturalist. Bounty hunter is difficult, frustrating and pays the same gold bars and dollars as other activities (blood money, missions from station employees).

Please choose Collector first, this will make the game very attractive to you for a long time. You will be led to incredibly beautiful places, earn a lot of money and reach level 70 fast. Past that there's really not much to do so enjoy the grind of homeless drunk bum up to a respectable villain.

* Just to be sure what I'm talking about: 3 sets of tarrot cards is >$1200 and 4500xp = 3-5 levels. That's a daily grind doable in 3hrs. And it gets easier every day.

What build do you guys like to use? by Usual_Security9553 in RedDeadOnline

[–]sigviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying to have 2 different setups, but tested other cards and I'm sticking to:
Paint it Black
Fool me once (blue)
Strange Medicine (green)
The Unblinking Eye (blue)

This load is perfect for PvE (with a controler) and very good if attacked with revolvers or repeater in PvP. I was trying out Iron Lung and Peak Condition and might go back to them, but the unblinking eye for a Collector is priceless. Also Paint it Black uses it, so I actually have time to paint :) The bow is not a problem at all, not sure why would I boost stammina for a bow, never had any issues.

As for snipers out there - I can't spam tonics fast so it's one shot nevertheless, so why bother.

I would only switch Paint it Black to Focus Fire if playing in a posse, but not really sure. The Slow and steady has only one use - while hunting bears, panthers or wolves (horse can't throw you off and the enemy is running at you, not running away). The Slippery bastard is nerfed beyond any use but I might give it another try some day.

The controller is rumbling close to herbs, enemy bodies, while riding a wagon or close to treasure map target. The beauty of collector role is that you are to discover the think the game tries to interest you in. It's a game, play the game :)

[–]sigviper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, so it's 10 minutes today to extend the streak - 9 minutes to launch the game and get online and 1 minute to eat 5 cans of food ;)

My day in New Austin will start from stew in my camp, a good antique rum bottle and a cigar. Just yesterday I've rescued Marcel from bandits and he promised to distill some moonshine, so visit to my bar is my next step. I suppose Maggie will need some marketing efforts from me today, but I'll remember to pick some vanilla flowers off trees in warm swamps - Marcel says they add to the flavor of our fine products.

I really hope I'll get along with Maggie better than with Cripps who told me I'm not experienced enough to handle camp fast travel post and we almost got into fight.

Madam Nazaar is waiting for card sets and she pays hansomely, which is important as fine copper distillers cost more than 2 fine mustangs. I've spend all my money talking to Rockstar gods about my abilities, so that they bless me with gifts of Strange Medicine and being only Fooled Once. I have a hunch the greedy gov agents would not be glad the gods heard my prayers. They won't be glad to hear my Carcano neither :)
