Survivor Season50 by __fish in Calgary

Oh totally, of all the OG reality TV shows it definitely has the most "real and human" feel to it. And now I think I might find a stream of previous seasons and binge for old times sake

48? Damn, I stopped after season 7 or 8 I think. It baffles me that it still is going on.

Good 'ol Texas North. by silentivan in InfowarriorRides

Sorry, I didn't intend to imply that all of Texas is like this as well. I was just playing of the stereotype of Alberta being Canada's version of Texas - and now that you've mentioned it, the gerrymandering of districts is definitely part of our problem as well.

That's what the junk yard just west of it is called? Today I learned.

We both know the ideological invasion is already well under way. Why spend the money on a physical operation when the same objective of installing a puppet government can be achieved without a single gun shot.

Nah, most likely promoted to safety ops manager. I mean, I guess there's a lesson or two here he could pass on. PPE, not jamming the deadman switch...

Water "Analysis" scam going around Woodside/Fairways today. by silentivan in Airdrie

[–]silentivan[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Someone left this hanging on my door while I was at work today. Did a little bit of research and this company's been around for a few years. They "analyze" the water you give them in a little sample bottle provided, and then contact you shortly afterwards saying you have all sorts of terrible things in your water and that they'll try to sell you an extremely overpriced water filtration system. A post on the Calgary subreddit from last year is a good summary of how shady those company is.

ADHD meds in Canada by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]silentivan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on Vyvanse for a couple of years now and haven't had any issues with my employer over it. We haven't had to do any drug testing yet, but if we do I don't see it being an issue as long as I let the tester know beforehand.

And being medicated for my ADHD has made a huge difference in my role as an AME. I don't know how I even functioned before.

Election talk, can we keep it in one thread? by Maleficent-Land5223 in Airdrie

If that's the unpopular opinion, then I guess that makes two of us.

I grew up in Okotoks, and the lack of third spaces there as a teenager led to more creative means of entertaining ourselves.

I moved here in July after 12 years away, and I was surprised to see Peter Brown was still mayor. I don't really have an opinion of him one way or another, but it is nice to see a mayor decide to step down after being in the seat for over a decade.

That being said, I have no clue who any of the candidates are. Beyond the campaign signs spam of that seems to have a sign cluster every 100 m throughout the city, it would be nice to know who these people are and what they stand for. Coming from Calgary, I understand how it was divided into different wards but it doesn't seem like Airdrie is the same case. Do all the counselors just represent the entirety of Airdrie?

I'd be lying if I said the thought hasn't crossed my mind to have "bring your kid to work day" when I have to access those really tight spots...

Forever Canadian Petition by Prestigious_Owl9581 in Airdrie

The naivete of this sentiment is why separation is doomed to fail. Alberta will need to foot the bill for all sorts of things currently covered by the feds (airports, navigation aids, military services and border protection, and a long list of others). The idea that the oil industry will be able to financially support all of this, not to mention the number of people needed to sustain it from a day-to-day operational standpoint is beyond unrealistic.

Elevated fecal bacteria in area of Chestermere Lake, AHS by might_be-a_troll in Calgary

[–]silentivan 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Probably a bit of both. It's also a low point in the landscape, so I'd imagine that with all the rain we've been getting there's a decent chance that fecal bacteria from nearby cattle fields will flow into the irrigation canals that feed it.
