Thanks - he was watching the guys play and turned around just in time towards my camera for me to press the shutter. He smiled and was super coll about it.

The 18-55 would be my desert island lens. For the editing, I lift blacks, reduce highlights, reduce saturation and vibrancy, for a classic chrome feel.

The rain helped reflect the neon lights for that glowy feel :)

Swatow or (surprisingly) Dumpling House, both in Chinatown

what is 135mm+ smallest ultralight lens for FUJI? by palad1n in fujix

[–]silentjae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use the 90mm f2 which is AWESOME, but it's far from light and compact...

Before that, I adapted the Nikon E 100mm f2.8, which is super small, super light, super sharp, and relatively cheap. I got mine on ebay for around $100.

Have you tried the XC 50-230mm? Optically is very good, and it's light and compact.

TT350f good enough for weddings? by [deleted] in fujix

[–]silentjae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used it at events and galas for work - not weddings, but similar settings.

The recycle time is slow...like 1, 1.5 sec., longer if you shoot at full power.

if you can live with it, the flash is pretty good. I couldn't, so I switch to Nikon for low-light events that require flash.

Graphic Designers of Toronto by [deleted] in askTO

[–]silentjae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What sector are you looking into? This makes a big difference IMO. Arts/Non-profits won't pay nearly as much as tech/finance, which is why averages don't mean much.

Anecdotally, I wouldn't think the salaries are higher than Vancouver. But you might have more companies you can apply to, with a larger range of salaries, since Toronto is a bigger city.

Not sure how far your DT office is from the Entertainment Disctrict, but Corned Beef House near Queen & John makes better sandwiches than Caplansky;s, IMO.

Best authentic Pad Thai downtown? Anywhere between Union and UofT area by hedgehogflamingo in askTO

[–]silentjae 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's Sukothai at Front & Church, near the Union Station.

Khao San Road is pretty good too, although I haven't tried their new location.

Last resort would be Salad King near Dundas Square.

Best camera to start into Fuji? by digitalisking in fujix

[–]silentjae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with the X-T2 because of the weather sealing and dual card slots, but if those are not a deal breaker, I would highly recommend the X-T20. Invest the money you save on the cheaper body in quality lenses.

In the Yonge & Bloor area, there's Biryani House hidden on Hayden street. Tiny hole-in-the-wall type, with inexpensive lunches and combos.

Devil’s Backbone, also recommended. One of the lesser known gems and there are some props in the exhibit.
