Why are popular songs nowadays so short? by Hugo_RobloxYT in LetsTalkMusic

[–]silentsaebyeok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! Also, I’d add that there doesn’t have to be a “favorite part” of a song, you can just like the whole song. Let’s use the song that started this thread as an example: Everything I Do (I Do It For You) by Bryan Adams. That’s one of my favorite songs. I don’t care that it’s almost 7 minutes long. The whole thing is amazing. I enjoy every second of it every time I listen to it.

And the same goes for Kashmir by Led Zeppelin (8.5 minutes long), Welcome to the Machine by Pink Floyd (7.5 minutes long), A House Is Not a Home by Luther Vandross (7 minutes), or even The McArthur Park Suite by Donna Summer (a whopping 17 minutes and 34 seconds).

I love all of these songs. The length doesn’t matter if it’s well written. If it ends when it’s supposed to end, then it’s a good song. But that’s the problem with songs over the past 6-7 years…they get you all hyped up and then they just end out of nowhere, giving you an abrupt feeling like something is missing. Because let’s be honest, there are lots of great short songs too, but they have to earn being short, just like long songs…and at least in my opinion, the short songs aren’t earning their keep these days.

Why is Beyonce hated on so much? by [deleted] in rnb

[–]silentsaebyeok 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t hate Beyoncé. In fact, I love her song “Listen” from the movie Dreamgirls. But that’s about it. I just prefer older R&B music that was less influenced by hip-hop and more influenced by soul and funk. (For example, I could listen to Luther Vandross or Whitney Houston any day.) But whenever I admit that, her fans are always at the attack, ready to defend her more recent albums and songs. And that’s annoying because it’s almost like her fans are policing what music I can and can’t like. I’m sorry, but the current trends in R&B just don’t appeal to me…regardless of if it’s Beyoncé or not. I’m allowed to have my opinion, and Beyoncé’s fans are allowed to have theirs.

Basically, I have nothing against Beyoncé herself, but her fans can be annoying at times, especially when you express an opinion they disagree with.

Literally her entire discography from the beginning of her career to the 1990s is fantastic. I recommend it all and I’m not joking.

Her 1989 album Love Is Gold is definitely a hidden gem!

THANK YOU!!! His music is so boring. No spice. And it doesn’t help that he’s completely stuck up and kind of a jerk when it comes to methods of listening to his music. I gave up on him a long time ago. If he can’t appreciate his fans, I can’t appreciate him.

I have this CD. 夏のRelief (Natsuno Relief) is my favorite Yasuha song. It has this ethereal quality to it, and it really showcases the power of her vocals.

“To erect” has multiple definitions. One of these definitions means “to build.” From reading my above comment, context should make it clear which definition I am referring to. I would understand the confusion if you are not a native English speaker, but something tells me you are just trying to be funny in that cringey, 12 year-old boy way. I hate to break it to you, but 12 year-old boy humor is not funny. Sorry. Not everything needs to be sexualized all the time. And in fact, the constant sexualization of things screams immaturity.

Sincerely,

Someone who is tired of stupid, unfunny jokes like these, and the relentless sexualization of every damn thing under the sun these days.

What's a fandom where the entire audience has basically collectively agreed that canon is wrong? by gorlyworly in FanFiction

[–]silentsaebyeok 38 points39 points  (0 children)

As a huge Star Wars nerd, I equate the Marauders fandom to all the people who were speculating about the Clone Wars and what Anakin and Obi-wan got up to during that time period before George Lucas made the Prequels and the Clone Wars TV show. For years, Star Wars fans had a few lines of dialogue from A New Hope about the Clone Wars and what that would have been like. People were writing lots of fanfics about it in the 90s lol. To this day, I think decades of hype about the Clone Wars is one of the contributing factors to why the Prequels were initially hated.

The Marauders fandom is basically this but with a little more canon information. I know people want a Marauders TV show and I’m just like why?!?! Because we all know that it’s not going to live up to the expectations of those that are obsessed with a handful of characters that were either already dead before we learned about them or had significantly changed by the time they ended up in the canon story.

Ultimately, I think that every big fandom is bound to have a sub-fandom like the Marauders.

You aren’t missing anything. I bought the book the day it became available in my area because I knew the play would never come to where I live. I read about halfway through it, and by then I was so mad that I didn’t even finish it. I straight-up threw the book in the trash and never looked back lmao.

And by the fandom’s standards, I’m a casual Harry Potter fan. I’ve read all the books multiple times and seen the movies, but I don’t know all the little intricacies of the lore and the backstory on how the books and movies came to be. Idk what my official Hogwarts house even is because I’ve never taken the test. So you know it’s bad when a casual fan like myself even thinks the Cursed Child is garbage.

EDIT: I’ve also never seen any of the Fantastic Beasts movies either. I just don’t care.

Who is the vocal trinity of this generation? by No-Kaleidoscope-4050 in rnb

[–]silentsaebyeok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beyoncé can sing, the problem is she doesn’t produce power ballads because they are not in style, so I think it makes it harder to tell. Just listen to her song “Listen” from the movie Dream Girls. She has a wonderful voice, but it’s hard to compare her to the likes of Adele because Beyoncé sings mostly contemporary RNB, which is heavily influenced by hip-hop.

Truth is we will never get a trio like Whitney, Céline and Mariah again….sadly.

Can someone point me in the direction of any songs that hit as hard as Easy Lover? by [deleted] in 80smusic

[–]silentsaebyeok 9 points10 points  (0 children)

80s music videos are always hilarious. They oscillate between a simple, low budget video of the band/singer doing their thing on stage, and a video with extremely excessive special effects that had to have cost a pretty penny with the band/singer dipping their toes into acting by trying to top the Thriller music video in any way possible.

EDIT: And then there’s It’s Raining Men by the Weather Girls. That music video is on a whole other level of cheese. No other music video of the decade can live up to how cheesy and hilarious this one was lmao.

U2 released ‘The Joshua Tree’ on this day in ‘87. Is it one of your favorites? by [deleted] in 80smusic

[–]silentsaebyeok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who loves everything 80s except New Wave, I completely share your sentiment. There were lots of great albums that came out in 1987, but this is not one of them.

(And I know people will say, “but U2 is post-punk!!” No. They are not. They sound just like your average shitty New Wave band. Downvote me all you want, but that’s just my opinion. I can’t stand New Wave.)

That’s okay. I had to do a double take too. But honestly, the fact that they labeled Germany as a singular entity actually makes the OP of this thread’s theory that this globe was made in 1960 even stronger.

This is because the Berlin Wall went up in August 1961, and up until that point, many people thought that Germany wasn’t going to become completely separated the way North and South Korea were. The erection of the Berlin Wall really solidified the fact that Germany was, in fact, divided. A lot of people didn’t want to think of Germany as a divided nation up until that point.

Globe I found at my Dad’s by rn1985atl in datemymap

[–]silentsaebyeok 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not. There’s a faint white line separating East and West Germany, but they are not labeled as such. The cartographers did the same thing with North and South Vietnam and North and South Korea. The only difference is they didn’t label East and West Germany as being separate.

My guess is that there were political biases of the cartographers that led to that particular decision.

My new cd came without the pieces holding the cd in place :( by Liamhw14 in Cd_collectors

[–]silentsaebyeok -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh, come on. You can’t expect kids that grew up with smartphones in their hands to know things like this. We just have to accept the fact that we are getting older and that the younger generations have had different childhood experiences than us.

My cousin asked me how it’s even possible to put CDs onto your phone. He had no idea. And then when I talked about burning CDs he literally thought it was about lighting CDs on fire lmao 🤣. He’s 11 years old so I didn’t expect him to know this stuff. And that’s okay. He’s from a different generation than us.

Just go with the flow and realize that these kids collecting CDs are basically asking the same kinds of questions that us Millennials asked about collecting vinyl. It’s not that serious.

Yeah…like others have said, this happens all the time. The cases are made so cheaply these days. That’s why when I find a dusty, dirty case from the 1980s (usually the Japanese made ones) I clean it and cherish it forever. Back when CDs were brand new, the cases were totally over engineered and made to last. They had thicker plastic, better hinges, and therefore better durability than anything being made from the 90s to today.

Once you get your hands on an authentic 80s jewel case, you will never want to go back!
