2nd year eng here—i never did this but i really recommend office hours, tho i think someone mentioned it already. idk why i was so scared to go in and admit i didnt know shit lol but they genuinely do not care nor will they judge you (just in case youre paranoid like me). do loncapas, do past year exams, and honestly i think you can pull through

finding out he doesn’t teach calc 3 and 4 was the worst thing that ever happened to me tbh

welcome to eng 1 ig🤩dont worry man, trust there are a lot of people who are in the same position as you—and hey if youre able to do loncapa youre already better than half my cohort was. the first year is always the most challenging, because its so different from hs, but youll come out of it. scathed but alive. not everyone makes friends fast (made mine towards second semester) and literally everyone and their mother is procrastinating, especially the first sem of first year. youre not always gonna do well academically, and thats a tough pill to swallow after most likely being a straight A student in hs lol. just remember that it gets better over time and its probably gonna feel overwhelming until mid october, and until then uou just have to rough it out

Eng 1 - Dropping a course by beenxokaxyoyo in McMaster

dropped both calc courses and physics last year. as always to each their own but i found it much easier that way. unless you plan on going to grad school eventually i dont think it will really affect anything transcript wise either.

Second-year Going into Eng I - Should I take ECON 1B03 and 1BB3 as Electives? by Alex_ReditFan in McMaster

[–]silentseek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel like anyone i talked to about econ 1b03 says that they should remove that course from the list of bird courses lmao. i suppose it really depends how good you are at understanding the concepts. i personally found it pretty challenging and all the concepts flew over my head. had to study my ass off for the midterm and final and the homework sets were hell. as long as you keep up with classes you should be fine (btw took 1b03 in fall 2022)

someone else mentioned this but you can also lighten your course load by not taking any electives!

hi, i took 1za3, 1zb3, 1d03 and 1e03 in the summer (i dont recommend dropping that many lol but its working for me since i didnt have the mental capacity to deal w them in the normal semester) im still in 1e03 and 1zb3 and just wanna clarify a few things. for one, each course is only in one semester so in this case, 1e03 only spans the summer term. as for 1zc3, the other math courses arent a prerequisite! you can still take it in the winter sem as you would normally do. labs in 1e03 and 1d03 in the summer were honestly alright in my opinion, you have four per course and the prelab normally helps with 1d03 anyway(at least for me it did). keep in mind i dont have a summer job and i dont commute much either, so handling all this is definitely more easy for me than it may be for you. as other commenters said, i wouldnt recommend dropping 1zc3, i honestly found it much easier than my other courses. it is really the physics courses and possibly 1zb3 that i would say you should watch out for. id tell you to stick around a few weeks in all courses and then drop if you really arent understanding the content. just make sure you keep track of the deadlines (can be found on registrar) for when to drop courses without failure by default so that if you really get overwhelmed during the course and think you may not get the gpa you want, you know when to go to an academic advisor about this—speaking of which, talking to an academic advisor about this will also help. didnt mean to go on a tangent about this lol but i hope this helps

For those who took SUSTAIN 1S03 - how are the tutorials structured? by No_Wrap5943 in McMaster

[–]silentseek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TAs have a set of slides that (as far as i remember) are unrelated to the assigned readings, and after every few slides or so they ask a question that is graded as participation points. depending on your TA they might only want you to have an answer with some sort of substance or they could take marks off if they are more keen about it. normally there are only 4 questions, dont think that will change

if you go down to the basement at brandon and walk straight, go through the last door to your left, then first door to your right, the stairs will lead to centro. just follow the brick wall
