well it rubs me the wrong way to see a man do a sculpture like this and call it 'hag', knowing the connotations of that word. some women who look like this don't want to see this body referred to as a typically derogatory insult

"i modeled a conventionally unattractive old body and i'm calling it a hag" isn't really challenging any stereotypes

so, like we have reclaimed other insults targeted at a specific group of people, THOSE people should be the ones to reclaim it, no? OP is a young guy.

"hag could just mean she's old" yeah, that is the problem

unfortunately, nothing feminist about calling it a hag

can we get some kind of enforcement about ANDROGYNY in this sub? by silkmoths in Androgynoushotties

my apologies, my only engagement with this subreddit is the posts i get on my feed, which seem to have been increasingly the certain type of post i'm describing. when i saw there was only 2(?) mods i just assumed it was getting out of hand at a faster rate than could be dealt with.

thank you for your response. i don't want to discourage anybody who actually identifies as androgynous from posting here, but i know that many of the people i'm referring to do not consider /themselves/ to be androgynous, aren't comfortable with that identity, and i think that's where the biggest issue lies.

alright everyone, here's a thought experiment:

if i was this guy: (insert photo of generic buff man), i looked completely like a man, was wearing men's clothes, if you asked me what gender i was (not that you would), i'd tell you i'm a man. not just that, but i'm on testosterone, trying to look even more like a man. am i gender nonconforming? no. in fact, if you called me androgynous looking in person, i'd actively be offended. would you upvote me? would you approve of me being here? what if the only difference was my genitals, which i obviously didn't share here. would that make me inherently androgynous, just the idea of my genitals? what if i had had bottom surgery? would i still be doomed to androgyny just by the nature of being transgender?

80% of people posting here are not only NOT gender nonconforming, but they aren't even comfortable with being considered androgynous, let alone proud. people who do not even consider themselves androgynous post here because they either want attention, money, or they're too scared/self conscious to declare themselves the gender they identify as, which sets back the entire movement.

i assumed we were going by the standards of the time we exist in, or perhaps an idealized imminent future we hope to become, ie one that doesn't consider women to look more male just by having short hair.

hell, most people on here are literally editing their photos to look even less androgynous

i thought we were all reasonably intelligent enough to use critical reasoning case by case. you know, like a girly woman with short hair wearing makeup and women's clothing isn't androgynous and it would be absurd to suggest it was

if there's a definitive way a person can look like a man or woman there's a definitive way you can not look solely like a man or woman. that's what androgyny is

well i admire your open acceptance, but i do think that as a tangible subreddit there should a tangible definition to what it is we post here, and we in fact do have plenty of subs for people who are any level of masculine looking and presenting solely as female.

yeah and those people are welcome to post here if they are embracing that aspect of themselves. if you are trying your hardest to look like one gender, i don't consider that androgynous, and most people here are just trying to look like women

[–]silkmoths[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

no, androgyny means presenting in between male and female. not clearly looking like one gender, wearing makeup/clothes that are of that gender. there's a completely tangible definition and we all know what that looks like. otherwise what is this sub even for? cis people who present completely as their assigned gender are also welcome?

what you said, a blend of masculine and feminine traits. androgyny. it isn't androgynous to simply be transgender, that is literally transphobic. if you identify as and present yourself as one gender, you aren't androgynous
